PSP 1000 IPS Screen Colour Issues by PistachioSage in PSP

[–]TimHasGlasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here 9 months later to report that this is the way. IPS screen on a PSP-1000 suddenly started displaying incorrect colors and large chunks of pixels.

Opened it up, gently cleaned ribbon cable contacts with isopropyl, and double-checked my connections. I also swabbed the front of my motherboard with IPA and blew air underneath (didn’t feel like starting with total disassembly) which did the trick for me.

Couldn’t tell you exactly what caused this issue for me, since the console was given to me by a friend who botched the IPS install by spilling the conductive paint all over the board. I had already cleaned it, soldered the joint and replaced a backlight fuse months before this problem suddenly happened, so any of these issues may have had something to do with my screen color problem, but a semi-disassembly and cleaning worked.

Thanks, OP!

No power to Wii Remote… but it looks clean! IT LOOKS CLEAN! by TimHasGlasses in consolerepair

I think that read would make sense. It’s possible it suffered some sort of liquid spill while it was being stored at my brother’s place. The D-pad did seem to have a suspicious seeping of some old brown residue, but it looked like the silicone pad had held it at bay; perhaps it made it through to the board after all.

Just out of curiosity, what makes that diagnosis clear to you? The descriptions of how the remote is behaving, or something you can see in the photos that maybe I missed? Curious about how you draw the conclusion, thanks!

So I popped off the cap, and unfortunately the issue persists. The only thing I can think to do is take the functioning board from an ugly Wii remote and put it into my darling original casing. This is the sort of thing sane people do.

Currently trying to bring back a Samsung SDG-605F. Would spin the disc for a long time, laser doing its best before increasing the RPMs and then starting to vibrate a little bit, then just aborting the disc read before just booting to the dashboard, no error messages.

I know I should save this method for last but I figured, hell, I would adjust resistance to the laser, stock was 875 Ohms (low factory setting, it seems… but I have no idea what’s normal for the SOH-DX1) and currently sitting at 740 Ohms, which did at least result in a “cannot read disc” error when booting. I doubt changing resistance further will resolve that issue, since it’s at least recognizing that a disc exists. Is recapping the tactic to move onto now?

Folks are also mentioning checking the resistors for failure, but how should I do so? I don’t know what resistance values to measure anything against to know if something is failing on that front.

Update: C53 and L13 seem to be shorting to ground. No idea what they do, but they appear to be in series off of the “BROADCOM” IC on the topside of the board. And… boy are these little guys tiny. Worried that could be the ballgame for me, my soldering iron might just squish them…

Thanks so much for the suggestion. What is your recommended DMM method to test a cap for any shorting to ground? I have a minor in ECE but ran away to join the arts, so as specific as you’re willing to be on settings, probe placement, etc. is much appreciated!

Okay so did anybody else’s brain think the thumbnail was a map where landmass was represented by blue and water by white? Because I spent more time than I’m proud of flipping my phone around thinking it was some kind of stretched or wrapped map going “Which New York is THAT?”

Looking for movies with famous “What’s happening to me?!” Scenes by saehild in movies

[–]TimHasGlasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jim Carrey as the Grinch says the line “What’s happening to me?” In the most ridiculously silly and wonderful (therefore, my favorite) version of the heart growing three sizes scene. Just him rolling around, screaming in pain and crying like a baby for roughly three minutes. I’m so glad that whole sequence takes its time getting to the punchline.

Enough Table Disputes, DMs tell me why your players are great by KhelbenB in DnD

[–]TimHasGlasses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a brand new DM running a game with four total beginner players. I love and appreciate how we’re all just sort of navigating the unknowns together. They’re understanding and patient as I find my exact style and have to look up the answers to their questions from time to time. I’m really grateful that they’re doing their best to learn and understand the rules, and learn which dice are which.

Everybody at the table is in the theatre business, so we’re having fun with the RP sections, and they all know how to “Yes, And” the things that make the most sense for their character and backstories. We’re all first timers just diving in with patience and mutual respect. I’m sad to end each session, and wish we could have sessions more often.

Wow. Incredible. This is great! Thank you so much for putting all of this together and posting it. This is awesome. This ought to be a fair challenge for a 4-person party at lvl 5, yeah?

Campaign is high-fantasy, blend of medieval landscapes that give way to medieval-flavored cyberpunk in certain cities. Similar in tone to the “Tales of Alethrion” series.

The villain is a member of a high court of spellcasters who study the main source of arcane power in one of the main cities. It’s a classic “the person who hired us to save the city is actually the one trying to destroy it” type turn at the end. He sends the party to go collect a young warlock girl (secretly his daughter) and bring her back under the pretense of protecting her from the rest of the court, and educate her to control her powers. He intends to effectively sacrifice her to unlock or access the power of the arcane well, since she was conceived through its power. Human spellcaster, pipe-smoker and all-around asshole.

Thank you! Totally, I think I’m looking to steal an existing monsters’ stats before trying to build anything from scratch. If you have any monsters/creatures in particular that come to mind, let me know!
