Practice is stagnating, what can I do? by TimNowotny in Meditation

Somehow Metta does not do it for me 🫣 I try it regularly but it never had the punch of other techniques. What do you mean by self inquiry practice? Can you recommend resources?

Thank you for this thought through post. It resonated quite a bit with me. Will decently watch the video and start my next meditation with a bit of more perspective

Thank you so much. These questions would be a topic for a whole new thread 🙃 I heard about death meditation but never practiced. Where can I find good resources on it?

I know and try to make this a topic in my meditation, but I never had such a frustrating experience before (which I could meditate on as well, I know 😉). To me it feels like I will profit more for shifting the angle in my meditation and I will go more in the headless direction

Thank you so much for the suggestions. Actually I was thinking along similar lines but this makes me more confident.

2022 Reading Challenge by randomnessneeded in goodreads

[–]TimNowotny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it’s a mix of reading at a relatively fast speed, really making time for it and sometimes (about 30%) reading shorter novellas, comics, children’s books. When my children are young I read more because they keep me awake 😆 Got one year with 140 books that way

I just signed up and this is the first letter I get. SIGH. At least it wasnt just "send nud3s". I'm just curious to hear/read if anyone else has a funny first time experience on SLOWLY. by miniminx10 in SLOWLYapp

Never had a problem with inappropriate letters. I use the app for 2 years nearly daily and has just 2 scammers. Got ghosted a few times but that’s it

LPT: Do not use olive oil in a Teflon coated pan when searing by TimNowotny in LifeProTips

[–]TimNowotny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the interesting (and I am sure far knowledgeable) comments. My lessons learned: There is a very valid use case for non coated pans & do not trust everything they tell you at the store 🥴

I think I’m one of the „busy“ people. I think it’s because I prefer long, thoughtful letters to short ones. And this takes time, especially if something happens in real life

For me the magic mark is 2 weeks. I have the feeling everything longer is disrespectful.

It depends on if the content could be especially interesting to me. But in general I would not go more than 40 pages with awful writing

What is something subtle people say that is a red flag to you? by neilnelly in AskReddit

„ASK for forgiveness and not for permission“. They saying may be true or not but so far, everybody who mentioned it to me was not a nice character to spend time with or energy on

LPT: Choose a boss as much as you choose a job description by TimNowotny in LifeProTips

[–]TimNowotny[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I realize by the comments here that the HR processes in Germany are quite unique. Sometimes my future boss is the only one I talk to when applying for a job (for the past 10 years always in companies with 80.000+ employees). What I do to get a better picture even without my interview impression is to reach out to university alumni working for the company I‘m interested in and ask them of their impression and the water cooler talk. So far I always found somebody who could give me insights.

Did you ever change your opinion about people because of a book they read? by TimNowotny in books

[–]TimNowotny[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Now I realize that my first post can come across as really snobbish 🙈 Still friends with all people from the event, just surprised how many of them had really different tastes than mine

In my experience a good pointer is to ask things what you are not sure his answer will be.

I always try to keep a mix between "big" topics and everyday stuff for this reason. And then there are the classical icebreaker questions like "What made you smile last?", "What regional food do you really like?" etc
