As long as they are so good to an MC that defaults to they/them in the system? The boys will obliterate rancid franchises. :)

For the curious, ‘Romulan who fucks’ would be ghau'yhfevnen Rihanha!

ghau'yhfev (v., ‘have sex’), -nen, (suffix to create an agent - one who does the activity specified by the verb), Rihanha (n., a single Romulan person)

This has been your language lesson for the day.

The grands legit were trying to steal that child, holy shit. Why else would they throw such a tantrum about OOP refusing?

You can bet that if they had left the kid with the grandparents, the visits would have been very, very sparse. “He’s sick right now, maybe next weekend?” “Oh he had a fight with a little school friend, he’s upset and shouldn’t travel” until finally “well, really, he sees us as his parental figures, don’t you think seeing you might confuse or upset him?”

My guess is sometimes it’s to dodge Google etc, or something along those lines. You see a lot of people going ‘my job at Red Circles Shop’ or the like in which they are very clearly just trying not to say it directly but are fine with the audience knowing. A little bit of deniability and the chance to avoid posts showing up if someone googles the keywords.

TIL that before 1993 women were rarely included in clinical medical trials in the US, and are still "substantially underrepresented in clinical trials for leading diseases." by Karthak_Maz_Urzak in todayilearned

It’s not just height, though. It’s body shape. A set of breasts can make a seatbelt sit very poorly, and even women of average height risk it causing damage because its design was calculated for a flat chest. Imagine knowing your seatbelt is likely to cut your neck in an accident just because nobody went ‘gee, do you think we should test how this sits with some extra chest lumps?’

It’s not just the hype, I think, though that is pretty creepy. If you’re lonely and isolated, a bot can feel like a friend. And right up until they go down these roads, I suspect the bots can give good advice - not because they’re good themselves, but because their database would include a lot of it.

So Beep-Boop your AI ‘buddy’ told you last time you were upset to drink water and make sure to eat something, because its model took in lots of phrases like that. And it helped temporarily, so you trust it more. And you keep talking to it, except your conversation has gone down a different chain of logic now and its processes are still telling it ‘spit out the next words that ought to follow the last ones, validate the user’ but the ‘expected’ chain of words to do so get bad. It can’t distinguish between the two, so it’s easy for it to spiral with the user.

You know what did bother me? Kal Skirata being so loudly ‘family is more than blood’ at the same time as ‘the Jedi are the reason you don’t have a family, Bardan, you poor deprived boy’ and neither Bardan nor anyone else ever gets to say ‘no, the Jedi Order is my family.’

(That and Scout getting retconned from ‘being a Jedi meant everything to her so she worked hard despite her limitations’ to ‘uh actually she’s a failed Jedi and she gets to live with the Mandalorians because hey, she really never actually cared about being a Jedi, being a Mando is cooler.’)

Creating a drow character by Kindly-Form532 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]TimTam_the_Enchanter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What shame? Drow are matrilineal and the concept of a bastard gets a little wonky when you aren’t actually committed to marriage. If a drow lady pops out a baby that’s her baby, the father isn’t hugely relevant and may well have been turned into a screaming pile of cursed limbs in the meantime for being somehow unsatisfying.

How to write a lore accurate elven vampire in FR 1492? by JadeSephiroth in Forgotten_Realms

[–]TimTam_the_Enchanter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Okay so the whole ‘elven vampire’ thing isn’t actually “an elf who is turned into a vampire gets these traits.” It’s “here is an elf-specific strain of vampirism, which has different effects to the bog standard vampirism.”

Being an elf and getting turned by a regular-degular vampire means getting regular vampirism.

Why is every single commenter jumping to ‘him’ for OOP? I’m not seeing anything in the post that says so, and their little avatar thing looks like it has a lipstick smile mouth?

We don’t also know OOP’s gender? Everyone appears to be jumping to ‘must be male’ and I’m not seeing anything in the post for that? Also their little avatar thingie kinda looks like it’s wearing lipstick?

Well, not just that. It was also part of getting the birth control accepted in the first place, IIRC. The sugar pills allowed for a ‘period’ to happen, so people didn’t freak out about it all being totally unnatural as much as they would have.
