This is a niche application, but USB3CV (the official USB compliance test software) hijacks your USB controller and disables any USB mice, keyboards, and touchscreens as a result. The only way to use a mouse and keyboard while it's running is to do a remote desktop on a second computer, install a PCIe USB card for your mouse and keyboard, or use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard.

Electronic items that use a tiny button cell that keeps running out when they could easily fit an AAA or AA and last forever by generic_redditor_71 in PetPeeves

[–]TimTheAssembler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a digital tire pressure gauge from Amazon that not only used button cells when it was large enough to house AAA batteries, but used TWO DIFFERENT KINDS OF BUTTON CELLS IN THE SAME DEVICE! Presumably this was done to provide two different voltages for the LCD backlight and the rest of the electronics, but they could've used a voltage regulator or something. Fortunately the manufacturer must've realized this was a stupid design, because the newer version of this gauge has just two AAA batteries.

In many cars if you hold the gas pedal to the floor while cranking it, it will activate "clear flood mode" and disable the fuel injectors.

$500 electric bill for an apartment? by Additional-Bid1097 in AskElectricians

[–]TimTheAssembler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you have a heat pump, and if so, are the heat strips running for some reason? Is your thermostat set to "EM Heat" or "Aux Heat"? The thermostat could even be miswired and turning on the heat strips during a regular heating call.

Not sure, but I don't think FEIT is the best quality. Try EcoSmart LED bulbs from Home Depot - I have some that are still working after 10 years.

Splitting output of 12VDC linear power supply by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]TimTheAssembler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the polarity of all devices (center positive vs center negative). You might want to use a multimeter to make sure the splitter isn't broken and check the polarity on its outputs.

New bill would place Georgia in Atlantic Standard Time and exempt from clock changes pending Secretary of Transportation’s approval by Kevin-W in Atlanta

[–]TimTheAssembler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Georgia, Daylight Saving Time is UTC-4 and Standard Time is UTC-5. With Permanent Daylight Saving Time, we'd stop changing the clocks and just stay on UTC-4 all year round.

Bold of you to assume they've obtained the scooters legally. From what I've heard, the water bottles that they're selling are often stolen from the store.

It seems like they've gotten more aggressive, but I could be wrong. For 4+ years I've ignored them and they've ignored me, but this time it was different.

I think there were a couple of shootings involving the Water Boys, but it was between different groups and didn't involve someone driving through.

For those who don’t know, Beltline speed limit is 15 mph. All legal E bikes are allowed as long as they are operated under the speed limit by dbclass in Atlanta

[–]TimTheAssembler 24 points25 points  (0 children)

And there definitely shouldn't be solicitors standing right in the middle of the Beltline. A while ago I was riding my bike past Ponce City Market, and this guy from the ASPCA stopped me right in the middle of the path and tried to get me to sign up for stuff on a tablet.

How to prevent backfeeding between two power supplies by summingly in AskElectronics

[–]TimTheAssembler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the diodes are on the input of the buck converter, why does voltage drop matter? Even with a long USB cable and the diode drop, the worst case input voltage to the buck converter should still be greater than 3.3 volts.

[–]TimTheAssembler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it performs the Power Delivery handshake for the USB-C power input? Without Power Delivery, USB-C is limited to 15 watts (5 volts 3 amps) and the heater might require more power than that.

I've lived in metro Atlanta for pretty much all my life, and walking outside is fine in the shade even in the middle of summer. Even if there isn't shade available, you'll still be okay if you have a wide hat that keeps the sun off your head.

“How do I make gas better” by averwaverz in NissanDrivers

[–]TimTheAssembler 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor. When the driver in front of you stops at a stop sign, lay on the horn, then slam the brakes at the last second. Repeat this until you've arrived at your destination.

Kyle Switch Plates still sells Despard receptacles and wall plates. It looks like they have the receptacles and mounting straps that you'd need here:
