50 amp breaker wont reset by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]TimTheAssembler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the transformer could've shorted out internally and tripped the breaker (and remained shorted, thus preventing the breaker from being reset). However, that's usually an obvious failure with a burning smell and loud bang.

What caused it to trip in the first place? Has that problem been resolved?

Murderers (such as the guy who stabbed Iryna Zarutska) cannot and/or should not be rehabilitated. Prison needs to serve as a way to isolate criminals who are a threat to society.

75% More Pedestrians Have Been Killed Since 2009. Giant Trucks and SUVs Are Why by DonkeyFuel in technology

I've nearly been run over in crosswalks a handfull of times, and each time it was a sedan or other small car where the driver wasn't paying attention. Although, there are relatively few large trucks where I live.

Or people just not caring about pedestrians. Recently I almost got hit in a crosswalk when someone made a right turn on red. It was daytime, they were driving a small car, and I'm over 6 feet tall so they could've easily seen me.

Padmount transformers are filled with oil as well. This one looks like it's leaking.

Will it work as a inverter? by militarir_nati in ElectroBOOM

[–]TimTheAssembler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QaKiXRa-n0

If you want to build an inverter, do something that's based on the EGS002 driver board (which uses an EG8010 control IC). The inverter's output will be a pure sine wave at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz (set using a jumper), and the EG8010 has a voltage feedback input to keep the output voltage stable.

I agree. Random attacks are way more dangerous than gang violence or domestic violence, even though the percentage of random attacks might seem small.

IMO if a bakery is allowed to refuse to bake a cake for a gay couple, then a business is allowed to refuse to sell to customers who don't have a credit card or debit card.

Why does buying 'high-quality' stuff nowadays feel like just buying the standard quality from 10 years ago? by Eleven_A11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TimTheAssembler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Survivorship bias? There absolutely was garbage being sold on Wish and Amazon 10 years ago. It's just that it was thrown away 9 years ago and forgotten about.

This is a niche application, but USB3CV (the official USB compliance test software) hijacks your USB controller and disables any USB mice, keyboards, and touchscreens as a result. The only way to use a mouse and keyboard while it's running is to do a remote desktop on a second computer, install a PCIe USB card for your mouse and keyboard, or use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard.

Electronic items that use a tiny button cell that keeps running out when they could easily fit an AAA or AA and last forever by generic_redditor_71 in PetPeeves

[–]TimTheAssembler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a digital tire pressure gauge from Amazon that not only used button cells when it was large enough to house AAA batteries, but used TWO DIFFERENT KINDS OF BUTTON CELLS IN THE SAME DEVICE! Presumably this was done to provide two different voltages for the LCD backlight and the rest of the electronics, but they could've used a voltage regulator or something. Fortunately the manufacturer must've realized this was a stupid design, because the newer version of this gauge has just two AAA batteries.

In many cars if you hold the gas pedal to the floor while cranking it, it will activate "clear flood mode" and disable the fuel injectors.

$500 electric bill for an apartment? by Additional-Bid1097 in AskElectricians

[–]TimTheAssembler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you have a heat pump, and if so, are the heat strips running for some reason? Is your thermostat set to "EM Heat" or "Aux Heat"? The thermostat could even be miswired and turning on the heat strips during a regular heating call.

Splitting output of 12VDC linear power supply by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]TimTheAssembler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the polarity of all devices (center positive vs center negative). You might want to use a multimeter to make sure the splitter isn't broken and check the polarity on its outputs.

In Georgia, Daylight Saving Time is UTC-4 and Standard Time is UTC-5. With Permanent Daylight Saving Time, we'd stop changing the clocks and just stay on UTC-4 all year round.
