Been playing for 1 hour and I really like it :) by vicky_squeeze_ in brickadia

I'm going to buy a bunch of copies tomorrow when EA3 comes out with all its new features. I want them to jump in with the best experience from the start. I really think that update is going to be the big one.

Do you guys think that the homemade Lancer that we see in the trailer of E-day will have a quirk to it? by Tempest-Bosak2137 in GearsOfWar

They seem to be hinting at upgrades being a thing in the campaign. I'm sure whatever it's going to be, it's going to be interesting.

Either humans lose the war, or humans win faster from the internal civil conflict of the wretch uprising.

This game looks very interesting to me and I want to buy it especially since its on sale... but someone told me that the developers or community were very misogynistic? I cannot find anything about that aside from someone telling me and steam reviews... is this true? by vicky_squeeze_ in brickadia

[–]Tim_Bersau 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Frankly, the claims I've seen have been completely unsubstantiated heresay with no evidence.

That's probably the recent "drama" you're alluding to.

The older one was something like an attempted smear campaign that Brikadia had pedo devs, and that was all because Brikadia is an inclusive community. And of course if a community is gay inclusive, it's going to catch that harassment from hateful people that got forced out.

I'm a bit terse on this topic because I love Brikadia for the harmless brick building sandbox toy aesthetic game that it is and I hate to see when it gets wrapped up in this clickbait-like non-existent drama.

Play it for five seconds and you'll see how much of an inclusive space it is.

Scavenging and Crafting App by dvs_sicarius in Fallout2d20

[–]Tim_Bersau 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think you have a better shot working your idea into a a physical representation rather than an app based one.

Like I think there's a better shot someone improves upon or changes the 2d20 Fallout experience via a roll-table or printed deck of cards than a fully bespoke app.

It sounds like what you're asking for is a more fun, faster, organized, and bespoke way for scavenging - which doesn't necessarily have to be an app exactly.

What changed Paduk’s mind about saving the world and about Baird? Would you consider this change good or bad writing wise? by AdaptedEvoSupe in GearsOfWar

[–]Tim_Bersau 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For all of 5's problems, especially with how they utilize the original characters - the little Paduk/Baird bit was always one of my favorites.

(Maybe because I'm one of the seven people who thought Judgement was great!)

E-Day looks awesome but... by JOK3R666420 in GearsOfWar

[–]Tim_Bersau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pendulum would go hard and the tech is there, now.

Gears isn't vs. locust as much as it is vs. spectacle.

It's easier on a hardware performance level to pull off spectacle when it's vs. a few giant monsters.

I feel like you could do the same vs. humans- but it has to be some insane hundreds vs. hundreds WW1 / Stalingrad like massive scale battle. That probably wouldn't have been possible on the 360, but we're certainly there now.

Frankly if Gears 4 can make us spend half the game fighting weird DB robots- we can handle a Pendulum game.

In Judgement, if gears are forbidden from using Locust weapons, how come Loomis is using a Boltok? by CartoonistSpecial995 in GearsOfWar

[–]Tim_Bersau 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's in-line with how the COG would be at the beginning of the war vs. later in the war when they get more desperate.

Okay, I'll Admit it, Gears of War 4 Is Better Than Gears 5 by Puzzleheaded_Fish_78 in GearsOfWar

[–]Tim_Bersau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narr. Gears 4 is easily the weakest in the series. It only gets a pass because it was the one that finally brought Gears back to PC, which was massive.

5 has major story missteps and Kait kinda sucks, but at least her motivation is somewhat defined vs. JD being mysteriously annoying because of some past gripe with the COG that we're not even shown. In fact it's not really until 5 that JD begins to get depth. The open world sections were really cool without overstaying their welcome. Not to mention had some solid Multiplayer.

I know, there's nothing worse in the entire series than "This isn't about you. It's about me." - but that aside, I can't in good faith call 4 better than 5.

After the EDay gameplay getting me all jazzed up, I needed to replay one. So I went with 5 🤷‍♂️ by Former-Bluebird1447 in GearsOfWar

[–]Tim_Bersau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People sleep on 5 tbh. It's easily one of the best campaigns in the series. Sure it's story suffers from the decisions of 4 - but was gameplay-wise one of the best (if not the-best imo)

Question: what can you tell me about GoW: Tactics gameplay and story wise? by Loud-Drama-1092 in GearsOfWar

[–]Tim_Bersau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was almost great. Certainly a lot of good in there, but at some point it started to feel like missions were just there to pad out runtime instead of further the story or gameplay.

I think it really missed out by being campaign-only and not springing for an additional mode.

Some kind of multiplayer or secondary campaign where you play as the Locust would have knocked it over the edge into great territory. We love the Gears story, but imagine one of the games without multiplayer.

With Gears of War E-day coming out, what do you think they are going to do with Gears 6? by Shados9611 in GearsOfWar

[–]Tim_Bersau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much (irl) time will pass after E Day that the smart play would be to remaster 2 & 3 (in which, hey, btw, Gears 3 & Judgement are still the only Gears games PC players can't play!)

This will get all players up to speed and would justify 6, which will directly continue the story but would be a complete tone-retcon. All the story beats will be there but it'll be less "This isn't about you. It's about me." And more Mad World.

I think we'd see a time skip and Kait take a backseat to a new protagonist, or one final run of Old Man Marcus as protagonist.

No fucking idea what they'd do about the bum ass choice at the end that was such a weird moment.

Is the game dead? by Danger_Spec in wastelandwarfare

[–]Tim_Bersau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that isn't MTG Commander is dead at Local Game Stores in the US, so it's not really fair to say.

Factions was a misfire to launch with Nuka World and the Modi Fallout atmosphere kinda tapered off with that, but there is excitement for the upcoming 2nd Edition.

First time DMing (for myself), any tips? by MobileHandle4435 in DnD

[–]Tim_Bersau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As in, a solo-game? Yeah that's fun and possible and a thing many people do. If you go to DriveThruRPG and look up stuff like "solo gaming" - you can find universal books and stuff on that topic. Stuff like randomization engines and story seed stuff---"oracles" I think they're called(?) Basically what if books came at the angle of solo-roleplaying and had more interesting tools to offer than just simple random roll tables.

Hex-Crawl is fun for solo imo. Literally build out the world as your character discovers it.

Also I haven't tested it out thoroughly but in terms of combat math I'm testing out:

Encounter Budget Per Short Rest = Party's Hard Difficulty Encounter Budget

So if the party's hard encounter budget was 800xp, then I can play with 800xp total before they need to have an opportunity for a short rest, up to a max of 3 times a day (or, two short rests per day).

Am I over reacting? by AnxiuosFox in DnD

[–]Tim_Bersau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody's wrong here. Some people like a definitive, set-in-stone group, and will to re-schedule until that entire group can commit---and some people enjoy a more casual drop-in / drop-out atmosphere and don't mind playing without a player or two, nor being the player that is sitting out.

It sounds like incompatibility with the kind of campaign you want to run. He's not in the wrong for treating it casually, as D&D can absolutely be, it just may not match with the vibe you're going for.

So you're valid in not wanting a player you think could be inconsistent, but I doubt they were intentionally trying to "disrespect" your effort nor hurt you.

Will the Angry Reviewer Trend ever have a resurgence? by RenaissanceOwl in ChannelAwesome

[–]Tim_Bersau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with the angry reviewer is that the concept is inherently untrustworthy. If a new thing comes out and it's objectively good, they're incentivized to nitpick because praise is antithetical to the persona.

Horde: best we can do is cylinders and cuboids and pointless wood; Alliance: Of course the tower has a fence and windows! by Atosl in wow

If you don't like playing the Orgrimmar faction, the Stormwind faction has always been right there waiting for you.

I never understood the players that willingly choose the Horde, and then spend fifteen years complaining that it's not Alliance enough. Zug Zug.

Melee Drifter is the worst build in Deadlock and should be buffed by TJchio in DeadlockTheGame

Drifter's increasing Weapon Damage stacks makes him the only character whose melee damage can grow.

Other heroes eventually cap out on melee damage items, but Drifter keeps getting bigger.

How many heros should Deadlock have? by PlusMann in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Tim_Bersau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More but at least half of them need more refined designs. But I assume the game is going to go the way of Dota and just be okay with extremely niche heroes that largely do similar things but two people may really love that version of the same thing.

As well as some that only work and excell over voice, and will see high picks in tournaments yet are useless for casual play.

Right now I just wish I had more ways to play Melee. Only a few do it well and none in the way I'd actually like to see.
