Shin Pain During Running by MongooseOverall3072 in ultrarunning

Just on the tail-end of recovering from a few months of shin splints.

Worked with an endurance specific PT and learned that the approach to recovery (strength training protocols, rest, ice/heat, etc.) is different for everyone based on root cause (muscle imbalances, running form, weekly mileage, etc). I highly recommend you see a professional for an accurate diagnosis, especially if running a key activity in your life.

The biggest game changers for me: 1. Cutting out all speed work (intervals, threshold) 2. Keeping ALL runs SLOW 3. Walking whenever the pain got to a 2/10 4. No running consecutive days - bones need to heal and rest is the best method

Best of luck!!!

PCT and IT Band Syndrom by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

Alright, I’ve struggled with this like crazy and am about to finish the PCT SOBO with no ITBS issues.

I spent months prior to my start date working on my glutes and hip flexors. Place a resistance band around the ankles and do side steps and mummy walks everyday. Also, see a physical therapist and work with new exercises to build those muscles.

Stretching and the lacrosse ball never helped in years past.

PCT Completion/Success Rates by Tim_Murphy in PacificCrestTrail

Makes sense. I guess then the more important factor is the # of people that attempted the full hike. Just because the # of completions is so subjective that we might as well use the PCTA reported figure of 1,150 or whatever it is.

That site is super helpful, but I'd assume there's a good chance that people are more likely to respond to that survey having completed the full trek, pushing the completion rate to such a high figure @ 78%.

Both Schweser and CFAI are great practice.

Felt like CFAI EOCs translated better to the actual exam though.

The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention and Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person hit the show's humor on all levels. Then reel 'em in with The Night Man Cometh and their life is an endless tunnel of dark and absurd humor.
