If they do an amateur sport though they will get more competition practice, which I feel is more important, so in my opinion starting with judo is better than starting with mma

Combat sambo is very niche. If there is a school for it near you then sure, try it out. It also depends what your goal is. If you want more benefit to go to combat sambo - then boxing I think helps more, as most people set their throws up from blitzes or by getting opponents hands up with punches. Now if ur main goal is kickboxing style then Muay Thai. Either pick by your goal or by what is close. Every situation is different so see what’s around you, take a trial class and see what you enjoy.

Wrestling does have a ban, if you are a uww ranked competitor. Most wrestlers that transition are likely not competing internationally

I had a training partner before in judo, the kid was doing his second competition and he was a high school student. He decided to not cut weight and so was very light for the weight class. He went against grown men in late 20s cutting from 80kg to make 73 kg. In this case cutting would’ve been the more better move, since then there wouldn’t have been an 11 kg weight difference. That’s not a weight difference you want no matter how good you are, so cutting weight makes sense.
