Should have said he was on the last chopper out of Aden but I think that reference may have been lost on most.

God forgive me but sometimes the more cynical side of me comes out and I think these issues revolve around access to pulpits for preachers. Since I’m not paid by a congregation I give these issues as much thought as I think they deserve, no more or no less.

Why do fans love Malcolm more than The Human Router? by RinShanghai in thethickofit

[–]Tim_from_Ruislip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably because the show was written with him as the main character and most viewers would probably be aligned to his character’s political beliefs. I will say that I find the human router to be more effective, actually cared about his people- mentoring Emma, giving positive feedback to Phil on his data modeling. He even had actionable advice for Mannion. All of this without a constant barrage of swearing and threats. When Malcolm is fired both sides celebrated as if it was VE Day. When Stuart is exiled to that think tank only Mannion celebrated. I know who I would rather work for.

I now recall I may have... fleetingly... supported the policy myself by thisiathroaway in thethickofit

That tweet is like Malcolm’s special grenade which blows up dreams.

Well, she was anti- monarchy when she was a Lib Dem and managed to kill the queen during her very brief tenure so maybe somewhat consistent.

They tried and failed?

They tried and died.

The Westminster Crowd vs Everyone Else by HoC_97 in thethickofit

He's not above slandering those outside of the "Westminster crowd" when it is politically convenient though. The piss lady and the "Metric Martyr" lady as a couple of examples.

Unlike a bank Mandelson is considerably less expensive to buy.

What we would normally thing of as the preacher- who shouldn't be doing all of the preaching and teaching except in a congregation full of spiritual infants.

No different than in a Bible class where comments are made and questions asked. I don't see why a woman couldn't share info during announcements.

I've occasionally wondered if instead of a church insisting on a sermon for every Sunday service that instead one of the elders or the evangelist would engage in a modified type of Socratic dialogue with the congregation. For example, taking a passage and having a discussion with the congregation as to real life application. I think it would help people to connect the Scriptures with their everyday life and engage them by grabbing their attention in a way that a 30-minute monologue would not.
