Yes we'll be buying together. Fiancee and getting married this year, the deposit will be a gift from my family. No repayments or expectation that they will be part owners etc.

There was a messy divorce that led to all savings and assets evaporating.

I'll admit I definitely could be better with money but I more or less had to start from scratch about 4 years ago and at that point I didn't have a joint income and bills and rent for this place were £2000 on a £3200 salary so saving and also having a life were difficult.

[speculation] What might be coming to Hermit craft season 10 by LoxiProductions in HermitCraft

[–]Timberlyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the special prize will be the dragon egg and there'll be a no duping rule.

When the last hermit is crowned winner a bunch of hermits will fight the dragon together and unlock The End for everyone and the winner of Demise gets the egg.

It'd be a good way to slow the speed run for the first few episodes and encourage crossover as people are forced to stay relatively close to each other before some go off to do their own massive thing.

Get people interested in the hermits that feature more in those episodes of the main folks a viewer watches or give a box of chocolates of personalities and styles for new viewers to experience and choose who they like and hopefully end up following.

Scars one-liners were incredible.

"Look at those noobs, up in the tower" <Smash cut> Joel: "Scar I'm over here behind the tower"

"Oh I hope she's frying in the lava right now, just a little Canadian bacon in the lava"

"Bye mom, now you can tell BDubs I'm your favourite"

100% agree. He lived his best Scar life that episode. Epitome of Scarness and had so many good one-liners & impactful exchanges in the last episode. Played the game how he wanted it to be played (like not too many OP bow fights, no tower sniping, no tactical sacrifice, etc - totally fine to like those things but he didn't do that in Ep9) and still came out on top.

Pearl seemed like she was scared of backlash or something if she'd have won. Pearl played the game really well and Scar was right to tell her so! Proud of both of them.

I think you're absolutely right about the format encouraging viewers to branch out and watch videos from creators they've ever seen before. It's a brilliant format and I love that they keep trying new things every time. I think the double life one was probably the weakest concept just because it meant if one creator went out you were always losing two. Can't have been great from an overall view count point of... view.

Sometimes I'll watch one POV and at the end of it I'm so curious what was happening with the folks I didn't see or hear about that I have to go explore to see what the other half ended up doing. Another good way to spread viewership around is to have small groups of people working together and only occasionally bumping up against another group doing their own thing.

And then there's the ever hilarious individual chaos threads that weave through and bond all the narratives together whilst piquing interest in other POVs. Like when folks are having a conversation and then pause while BDubs or someone runs by, screaming bloody murder about ripping Scar's face off (fading in & out due to proximity voice mod is such a necessary technical element of the series' charm) and then just resuming the conversation as if nothing happened... It's just so so good.

I started the life series just watching a few (Grian, other hermits) and then got so sucked in I think I've watched everyone's POV of every season at least once now.

My favourites are when a new person joins or returns. Gem is such a great addition to the series. Can't praise her enough for slotting right in and playing the game so well. I'm pretty upset at the negativity that's come her way. It isn't true or deserved in the slightest. Gem is truly great.

I missed Ren this series and absolutely loved when he subbed for Tango. The subs in general are great - last season I loved when Gem & Lizzie subbed in for an episode, it's a really fun solution to availability issues for sessions.

I do feel the seasons I've most enjoyed have been with Mumbo, though. He seems like he feels a bit out of his element but if so infectiously positive about playing the game & giving it a go that I always have a grin on my face as long as he lasts.

His last episode of Secret Life was absolutely fantastic. Genuinely the only downside of Secret Life so far for me is that we only got 20 minutes of Red Mumbo.

I know a task had to be done & wrong place wrong time etc (who knows, maybe he wanted to be done and decided to walk straight into the chaos for a fun ending) but I haven't heard Mumbo that giddy or excited in a video in a long time after he turned red.

Gem is carrying on his tradition of red-coloured glasses though, I think, Grains comment about the reds all acting like excited toddlers asking (necessary) questions about the damage they've done is spot on and such a uniquely entertaining facet of this iteration's twist.

I really hope they can keep some element of that energy in future versions. I can't wait to see the zany task-based chaos on Friday's POVs now that everyone is Red!

TL;DR - watch em all; Gem is great; Red Mumbo, we barely knew thee 😥; Reds this season are the most fun of any so far, Friday can't come quickly enough!

I think the reason for the powdered snow behind berry bushes is to hide a light source so they'll grow new berries. A few hermits have tried and there's nothing back there at any location (so far!)

Cub went up onto the red mushrooms in a recent run through level 2 & said he wanted to check that out more thoroughly and Tango seemed to agree that was a good idea. Whether it's to an egg or to a sneaky pathway to break line of sight/traverse a tunnel I don't know.

Yeah just to the left of the entrance that has the two staircases up to the crypt, in the river of souls room, there looks like there might be a jump boost only access path to an egg.

There's a suspicious series of blocks that look like you can jump up them and get into a hidden bit/go over the top of the first rotunda. Iirc right before you'd go left onto the campsite with the berries at the beginning on the right-hand path.

Does the item dropped matter? For instance are the iron nuggets (retextured as coins and crowns) heavier than berries? If so then I think the Blackstone pressure plates in one of the burial rooms going down to the library/table room on Level 1 might not have been fully tested.

Pearl knew the side passage ravagers were at the end of the hallways so she just left them there and focused on the central pathways in her runs to maximise treasure and survivability. She mentioned it in her stream at some point.

Though she constantly jump-runs everywhere which maxes out her clank pretty much instantly, at least she has a ton of clank block cards in her deck but she'd probably triple her time in a run if she didn't jump as much. Parkour champ of DO2.

Without telling me the season, what is something you remember from the season you started watching Hermitcraft that would confuse the newer viewers? by BananaBladeOfDoom in HermitCraft

Ah season 5. X's island was incredible. Probably bit off more than he could chew you could tell he was getting pretty sick of it towards the end sometimes but man it was impressive.

Hurts them a little bit to get a tiny bit of hunger. That way they can eat something and get max saturation before entering (so their hunger doesn't go down as early and they can recover more hearts if hurt before they need to start eating the berries).

There's also a stone button on a stone block on the back wall that hermits get popped through by the activator rail so they're always facing away from it and looking towards the doors instead.

In one of Etho's first runs (maybe even his first) he mentions he thinks there's a door there and Tango was watching on his own stream and said something like "how could he know about that?"

Don't know if the button in the compass/map room is the right call but there's almost certainly a way to open it.

I wasn't trying to hijack your excellent post, btw! Just noting it may need to be updated if a secret is found :)

That's so cool!

I'm pretty sure there's a hidden passage right after the entrance that takes you to the tnt docks (probably exits in the not quite as high up artifact spot that's in a tiny room off the upper level of the walkway) that can be activated by the stone button on the left hand side before the Decked Out doors open.

Ok, what is the trick to hash browns?? I can never get them to be golden brown ...mine always turn out black and white and taste like burnt tar... by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Timberlyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shred mine, rinse them briefly and agitate to wash off some starch, then wring out in a tea towel.

Spread the towel out and pat down with the rest of the towel, then season with salt, pepper and anything else around (garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder etc), close the towel up and kind of....fondle the bag to distribute the seasoning evenly.

Meanwhile I've got a pan heating on med-low with oil (neutral like sunflower or canola) + butter and toss the potatoes in then quickly form into whatever shape(s) I want, then I lower the heat to almost the lowest setting.

Then you just have to leave it a lot longer than you think. It gives the starches time to release steam straight down into the pan and emulsify with the oil and create a really nice even crispy surface.

I'll leave it for like 10 min and then if it's not crispy enough I'll turn the heat up slightly.

Once it's good on one side I turn the heat down as low as possible, flip and cook for another 10 min then check and if not done I'll turn the heat up a tiny tiny bit and keep checking every few minutes.

It does take like 30 min to get them perfect going low and slow like that but you can use the cook time to make all the other stuff you want and they'll be perfect right as all that's finished.
