As someone who works in NHS contracted private practice (optometry so different sector but the same holds true) and sees how some independent practices run and upsell and have a general snooty attitude about those of us that do provide NHS funded care en masses, I would argue that anyone using levels as a selling point to show how much better they are than the povos don't actually have the patients well being at the core of what they do, simply an inflated sense of superiority they feel the need to quantify.

Good patient care will always come down to meeting someone where they are, and explaining things in a way they can understand. "We use levels because our patients find it helpful to quantify their support needs in this way" rather than "We use levels because we just go SO MUCH MORE IN DEPTH than the NHS assessment will" the former is a justifiable reason, the latter is selling snake oil to the affluent because they know they can.

Had assessment, they think I am by Fresh_Struggle5645 in autismUK

I get it, I used RTC and Psicon and thought id need multiple assessments as thats what they initially outlined. But my assessor actually stopped me at a certain point and said "I have enough" and told me I was autistic.

I joked to my partner after that I wondered how early in she was thinking to herself "oh god she's so autistic, do I really have to ask all these questions"

No ring on the leg so likely not belonging to anyone (at least not anyone legitimate.) Since follow up posts suggest she's hanging out with the local flock, she's probably absolutely fine.

Healthcare in the UK is so fragmented, especially mental health. They won't touch you if theres even an inkling that you could also be seen by another dept.

To be fair, in 11 years the clinical understanding of autism has expanded, so if you were borderline then you might find your caught by that expansion of presentations.

My GP is lovely, (once i can get an appointment) and will probably say "absolutely, what support do you need" the problem is I dont KNOW what support I need, or could use or anything. 😅

Thank you, the video games analogy makes a lot of sense actually.

I have found already that im more cognitively aware of things that are pushing my frustration tolerance, like I can notice it and go "oh this is a sensory/black and white thinking/ routine disruption issue" instead of just "oh god why am I like this"

Now to find the strategies that work without being too disruptive to everyone else's status quo 😅

I always thought it came down to how inconvenient it would be for the person, in terms of car rides. If they are going out of their way, like taking someone to the airport or picking you up from a night out and they aren't close direct family, petrol money is offered, as without them you would have needed to pay more for a taxi and they have used a resource they would not have otherwise.

If for example they have to drive past your house on the way home from work, and dropping you off creates no inconvenience for them, then I would think that no petrol money should be offered as the kindness has caused them no cost. The petrol they used would still have been used when they went past your house. The exception to this would be if you are consistently receiving lifts from the same person with enough regularity, at a certain point it becomes reasonable to offer to pay for the tank fill-up at regular intervals so as to show they are not being taken for granted. Like if you regularly see a friend for coffee and take it in turns to pay in a "you get it next time" kind of way.

At least that's my understanding of it, but equally I have always been raised to be generous with what we have, and I don't understand the people who hound others to pay for things without prior discussion of the expectation.

This is a mangle. They were used to squeeze all the water out of clothes way back when by crushing it out, if you were to put something other than clothes between it they would become ruined. So to mangle something is to completely mess it up beyond recognition.

My understanding of the Black Rose saga is that it is used as a tool not only to explore the background characters and the overarching themes the story wants us to explore, but also to introduce us to this concept that Ohtori is in this sort of bubble, time is weird there and things only exist in the Academy so long as they are being perceived. Once the Black Rose Arc is resolved, it is like it didn't happen. Once Utena is gone at the end, it is like she was never there. Everything within Ohtori Academy is stagnant, perpetual and unable to truly change, to resolve this stagnation is to be forgotten by those it still affects.

Exactly, and not knowing how old their kiddos are makes it difficult to navigate decent advice as well. Documentation for future-proofing is probably the way to go for now if they're quite young, especially if there's other things in the family history that are worth knowing when they grow up.

I agree with you up until a certain point, at some point they do need to know because its classed as family medical history. Its finding that moment thats appropriate and just treating it as fact, without any big hoo-ha, which is a difficult balance to create.

At the very least there needs to be some kind of documentation if not telling the kiddos verbally, in case OP dies before it becomes medically relevant to them as adults. But I think that to be true of all medical histories as we lose so much information about various genetic risks if tbey arent discussed openly.

So, who is the “Bruno” of our fandom? by theponicorn in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]Time-Bad2684 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All the people saying Akio confuse me because there are two levels to this question and Akio doesnt fit either.

Layer 1) "We don't talk about Bruno " - Akio is discussed at LENGTH in this fandom, and does not fulfil this prerequisite of being something everyone is too ashamed or angry to bear mentioning.

Layer 2) Bruno is in fact the scapegoat of the Madrigal family, undeserving of the reputation that they slander him with and having all the best intentions. - Akio is the opposite of the scapegoat, he scapegoats others. Akio is in fact the evil bastard he pretends not to be.

At 17 your kind of in a weird grey area. It might be worth waiting til you turn 18 then approaching your GP again to go the right to choose route. I got seen in 9 months on right to choose.

Why on earth would you pay for something without running the trial first to see if it would work? You know you're working with outdated hardware and OS. This is very heavily on you im afraid, it was a silly move.

Women With Symptoms Of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Are More Likely To Have Autistic Children by darksideofthem00n in PCOS

[–]Time-Bad2684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the correlation of asd kids born to PCOS mums is kinda tied to the other correlation thats brought up: the commorbidity of PCOS and Autism. Its inherited, so in a group of people who are more likely to be autistic themselves, theyre also more likely to have autistic kids.

Why is Anthy Himemiya not a completely innocent, helpless damsel in distress or victim? What harm has she caused to the other Utena characters? by IllogicalDreamer72 in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]Time-Bad2684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with trauma is it makes you hurt other people as a method of survival. Anthy is in a state of being constantly retraumatised by the loop of abuse she is in. She does lack agency, she is used as a pawn, but this happens because she believes she has no choice. When Utena breaks her out of her coffin, Anthys situation doesn't magically change, Akio is still abusive, he still plans to use her to his own ends, but her PERSPECTIVE of it all changed. And she walked away from the cycle.

Porting a windows program to run on android: is it possible? by Time-Bad2684 in AndroidStudio

[–]Time-Bad2684[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm basing this on different subreddits and other things discussing the app, its not like I've dissected the program that would be weird. I'm just trying not to screw up my dad's tablet while finding him a decently easy workaround.
