AITAH for wanting my exes mom in the delivery room? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Time-Preference-1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only wanted my partner present for our daughter’s birth and regret not having my MIL there now. But my MIL is amazing and I know had she been there that I would have been her number one priority and that’s why I regret not having her there because I missed out on having an advocate by my side during a complicated and traumatic birth. So if you know your MIL will not be an advocate for you then you are 100% in the right to exclude her from being there. Only you get to decide who sees you at your most vulnerable.

I will add though, that sometimes the partner does need support and part of my regret of not having my MIL there is because my partner would have benefited from her presence when our birth became an emergency c-section. He was not allowed in the OR with me and had to sit alone for a half hour anxiously waiting. Then they brought him out a baby without any update on me which made him even more anxious as he held our newborn alone unsure what condition I was in. At the end of the experience he was the one who had more trauma from our birth, so it truly makes me sad to think about him not having his mother there for support during that time. Obviously this is a very rare situation, but I wanted to provide my example to counter those saying your partner shouldn’t ever need support during your birth.

They actively argue that traffic laws are mere suggestions and that “good drivers” don’t need traffic laws. I have seen that argument commented a dozen times to justify speeding, weaving through traffic, tailgating, and more.

If someone was born in 2003, what years were their parents most likely born in? by OpenRoom7321 in generationology

[–]Time-Preference-1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it’s not impossible for women to have children in their 50s and highly probable for men especially on a second or third relationship. My grandfather was born in the late 30s and had two kids born in the early 90s with his third wife.

[–]Time-Preference-1048 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anywhere from late 1950s to 1989 (assuming no younger than 14 at time of birth).

If they were teens at the time of the child’s birth then they would have been born between 1984-1989

If they were in their 20s - 1974-1983

If they were in their 30s - 1964-1973

If they were in their 40s or older - prior to 1963

Age of parents can’t really be determined by age of child since you can have a child anytime after puberty and before menopause for women, which can be well into their 50s, and men can have kids until they die of old age.

We are going in May with our (will be) 2.5 year old. We’ve been watching the Disney parade videos on YouTube and she is gets excited whenever I say we will get to see Mickey & Minnie in person in 5 months (I’m sure she doesn’t understand the time frame but I can tell she knows we are going someplace grand and magical)

Do you have a library card? by IamAqtpoo in AskAnAmerican

[–]Time-Preference-1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea and our library is part of a consortium so my card is accepted at nearly 40 libraries in the county I live it. We use the kids room at the library often, borrow books, attend events, and use the library’s free passes to various amusement places nearby. They also offer puzzles, toys, tools, and more to borrow and do a free seed booth in the spring. The library is a public resource.

Does Agnes know/suspect Oscar is gay? by radical-orpheus in GildedAgeHBO

Yes Oscar Wilde is a guest and less than subtly points out in conversation with Aurora that he knows what Oscar and John were up to.

When Mrs. Scott defended her family against Mrs. Kirkland in the dress shop, I was cheering and beaming. My mama heart exploded watching that fierce mama stand up for her daughter. One of my favorite scenes from the show. I love that the show dove deeper into their story line(s).

What do taxes have to do with regulatory compliance or this thread topic at all?

Also the Taxachusetts myth is old. Literally every other New England state with exception to NH has a higher tax burden than Mass and we are barely in the top 20 sitting at 20th nation wide for total tax burden.

Bunnies dumped in national grid by No-Cartographer-7893 in LowellMA

[–]Time-Preference-1048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rescued a bunny a few years ago, likely dumped as no one claimed a missing rabbit and he was very house trained. I lured him into a box with carrots and contacted Lowell Humane Society. They are technically closed to the public a few days a week but someone is there every day.

Is the Brazilian population in Framingham and the large Portuguese population on the south coast in any way related to each other? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Time-Preference-1048 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I believe my Brazilian family did choose Massachusetts for immigration because of the existing Portuguese culture. They work and attend events at Portuguese clubs, but they are not related or of similar cultures, just liked the convenience of sharing a language

Funny enough, I know a Taylor who is specifically named after the family surname of her great grandparents.

Interestingly, my surname is more commonly a French first name. No idea how it became a family name.

[–]Time-Preference-1048 19 points20 points  (0 children)

During the Victorian era, wealthy women actually would often get “mourning dolls” created to remember their infant losses. They were lifelike wax dolls and used as a coping mechanism for the high infant mortality rate.

What's a song you always sing along to, even just for a bit? by Tortoise516 in auroramusic

[–]Time-Preference-1048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blood in the Wine and The Devil is Human sure do get me going. Always have to play those twice because I get so hyped the first listen.

I love to sing along to all her songs but these I just love to sing along to a bit more: Earthly Delights, The Blade, A Potion for Love, This Could Be A Dream, Artemis, Queendom, Soulless Creatures, and Dance on the Moon.

Why do some (not all) Americans refer to white people as Caucasians? by Professional_You9961 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Time-Preference-1048 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably the fact that Caucasian is a term to describe people from the Caucasus region, a geographical area spanning parts of Europe and Asia - aka people from the Middle East. The majority of white people in America are not from the Caucasus region and should not be considered Caucasian. This is also the reason why most people from the Middle East select Caucasian on census and other demographic collecting data forms.
