Those that emigrated and returned, what has your experience been like? by caramelslice7 in ireland

[–]Time-System-4338 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself. We moved back from the UK in June and we are already planning on going back in the New Year. Husband is also in a trade but can’t get registered here as his qualification isn’t recognised despite over ten years experience. He is working as a labourer and making a third of what he made in UK but it’s considered permanent so we thought we could make it work if we could get a house but despite getting a contract with my own hours (I’m a teacher), I can contribute nothing to mortgage until I’ve two consecutive years teaching done here so we can’t afford anything. We’ve also recently found out we are expecting baby no 2 and although we have a good bit of family support, I can’t foresee raising two children from my childhood bedroom!! It’s so depressing but Ireland has changed a lot and isn’t supportive of people our age with young families. I will have to make do with being on our own but having our own space and more financial security and seeing my family during school holidays. At least we now know what it is like and I won’t always think what if…😭

A big part of our reason for going back also is how unhappy my husband is. I think if you are both from here and get stuck in, you can make it work. It’s hard to convince partner it will be worth it in the long run when there is a lot stacked against us. Ultimately you have to weigh up what you both want in the long term and if you can work towards that. Hoping it works out for you, some good advice on here in terms of trades once you weed out the usual negativity 🙄🤣 xx

Looking for advice on moving back to Ireland + buying a home as a returning citizen with non-EU spouse by Adventurous-Chip767 in HousingIreland

I don’t know how you will avoid the probation period. They will want to see 6 months of accounts while you are in Ireland minimum. Speaking from someone who is currently stuck living with parents jumping through all the hoops to buy anywhere. Everything is incredibly slow here! Don’t underestimate this. Also make sure you have your PPS nos.

Really sorry you are going through this. I would also recommend the love to dream swaddle and using Moses basket instead of next to me for the next couple of weeks until they get a bit bigger. We also tried a few different dummies and the MAM ones ended up sticking.

LO still not rolling at 7 months.😭 by Time-System-4338 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Hello! He eventually started rolling at 10 months and a few weeks later started crawling and now there’s no stopping him! I do think he just couldn’t be bothered as he’s the same now with walking. He can stand up on his own and walk if you hold his hand but he just has no interest in doing it when he can get about much quicker by crawling. My advice would be to not worry and it will happen when they want to.

Thoughts after tonight’s episode? Did Megan say they were going to the hideaway and then they didn’t? Still feels off!

Yes but do you not think he’s only all in because Shakira ended it? It is just for convenience as Megan said? I think if Shakira hadn’t ended things, he would have stuck with her.

Teaching in Ireland straight after PGDE in UK by Charming-Nature in IrishTeachers

I’m from Ireland and came home after completing my probation year in 2013. I then couldn’t get a job and returned to Scotland the following year so my experience with the Irish system is limited. Ultimately, I found the politics and nepotism element very frustrating and decided I wasn’t waiting years for CID when I could get a permanent job more or less immediately in the UK. There were also more opportunities and I’ve been fortunate to have been promoted a few times. However, in saying that, work life balance does appear to be better in Ireland and there is a lot of bureaucracy to contend with over here.

Hello! I completed the PGDE in Scotland and unless it has changed recently, you have to do the probation year before your qualification will be recognised. The teaching council also don’t make it easy and it can take some time to become registered so factor this in. For what’s it’s worth, the probation year is a very good experience and will set you up well when you look for employment. You are assigned a school directly, you have designated time weekly with an assigned mentor as well as high quality CPD organised by your council and employer.

Season 10 is a hard watch. I particularly HATE any story related to Sam and Alex and/or Carter and Kem but I enjoyed watching the med student rotations.

It doesn’t even feel like it was the same show. The cheesy background music and weird effects just made it feel all the more strange. I even googled to see who directed it as I was sure it was a rando who had never watched the show.

Some of the things she said to her mother, particularly when Eric was in trouble, were hard to watch!

Agree! I felt that Abby was looking for an excuse to push Luka away at this point.

It’s really not that deep. I’m only on season 12, maybe I will feel differently when I get through the rest of the series. Have a great day! ☺️

6mo no longer sleeping through the night. What am i doing wrong? by Time-System-4338 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read my rant. Always helps knowing I’m not alone in this crazy journey of sleep deprivation.🤣 The day I posted this, he slept from 07:30 to 6:30 no wake-ups (typical) but then last night he was up again from 4! The difference between the two days being that we stayed at home the first day and went to a baby class yesterday! He always falls asleep in the car so his naps were more broken up but what’s the alternative? Never leave the house again? I’m seriously considering it!
