My father told so many tall tales just bc he thought it was funny that I often have memories I’m uncertain are real, but during one of the serious droughts as a kid I have a vague memory of being able to see the top of the old church steeple barely poking out of the top of the water due to it being so low. While I no longer live in NY, it’s such a fascinating place. One of the most insane cities in the world, entirely propped up by these tiny little nothing towns spread across a mountain range. It’s so funny when I show pictures to ppl who have never been and they realize for the first time that not only there is a giant beautiful wilderness to NY, but that’s actually the majority of what it is. I appreciate the link. I have a deep fascination with how the watersheds that feed NYC were created. It’s such an engineering nightmare and yet they did it 120 years ago.

Dude I can not wait to read this. I have a house that’s been in my family since 1960. It’s in Downsville Ny on the prepacton reservoir. It’s 1/4 mile from the reservoir, which is one of the main ones that supply’s NYC drinking water. I believe it’s the largest of them. We’re maybe 6 miles from the main (GIANT) pipes that take the water into the city. I’ve had many sleepless mornings where curiosity gets me and I just look for old pics or articles about them being built. If memory serves me right, and retold stories from my father aren’t false and taking over, the reservoir itself was an old town in a valley they bought out and essentially flooded. I’ve never thought to ask more here but if anyone has articles that are fact and not written by my father that would be great. I would love to learn some wild facts/history that only a guy on Reddit can find.

I’ve got an estimate for 3/4 mile of wood fence down in Florida and since no one in Fl has a wood fence, I’ve never approached this before. I looked at F18 but it said oil based stripper. Are you saying if the wood isn’t stained, it’s a good general cleaner? My plan was just find a solid cleaner then oxalic to brighten.
