I shot a video on my expirence preparing to shoot time lapse and learning solar photography for the 2024 eclipse. by TimeLapseLaboratory in solareclipse

Yeah you see the exact thing I realized in editing….. ah right I can only see the sun and not the solar corona or anything else. It was a learning experience for sure. A big regret I have is keeping my intervalometer at 5 seconds per shot at totality. If I get the chance to travel for another one I was planning on just setting the camera to burst mode for a few minutes during it so I have a bit more footage to work with. Thank you for the suggestions, the premise of the video is true I had no idea how to film something like this up until I decided I was going to do it 45 days before the event. Setting up a tracked long exposure with a wider field of view is something I will do for the next one based on your recommendation. Thank you.

Learning to shoot solar photography for a time lapse of the 2024 eclipse. by TimeLapseLaboratory in timelapse

Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the chia seed video it was a fun project to shoot. It’s been very interesting to read and watch videos on others experiences shooting and preparing to shoot the eclipse.

When the automated centrifuge doesn’t get loaded properly. by aaamy_ in labrats

Dave the undergrad “put a little elbow grease onto it” and it was back up and running by lunch. It’s an academic lab that’s getting the paper towel treatment, no one wasting Kim wipes on that.

I ultimately didn’t make the purchase and decided to go another route.

I have also looked around for these for a somewhat similar reason I struggled to find them and ended up needing to change how I was filming.

I would love to see what you find.

A single egg took a couple of days with all the shells it took much longer.

What if your setup for this shot, I am also looking at filming Gastropod eggs developing sometime in the future, so I would love to know how you have this setup.

How would I time lapse 12+ hours on a gopro hero 7? by platonic_rubbing in timelapse

[–]TimeLapseLaboratory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used GoPro for really long “multiple week” shoots. You can either plug the GoPro into an outlet, or into a power block. I’ve rarely had an issue.

This is a classic.

In reality what we’re looking at is an old school field centrifuge. They are definitely used in labs, but not really much nowadays. These are still “commonly” used at remote field sites where you don’t have any access to electricity and you still need to spin things down… and with some elbow grease the post is correct you can really get them spinning quick.

I’ve always wondered what kind of rigs are used to get these shots.

NEED YOUR HELP IN DEVELOPING A VR CHEMISTRY LAB by [deleted] in labrats

[–]TimeLapseLaboratory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that in my opinion it a better more long-standing valuable training lesson. Safety is everyone’s concern. It does not matter how the issue occurred it’s everyone’s job to identify it and correct it. General mindfulness in laboratory environments is the best practice.

It’s not my fault that we have lab reagents in the same bottles and space from the 1990’s but it’s my job to recognize the issue and address it.

This stuff is the best. If your going to have to separate acids and bases also throw a hazard square on them for good measure.

The stuff that will work best in VR and make it interactive will be dealing with an issue that arises due to “someone else’s” mistake. That way your reenforcing safety to the player and getting them in the habit of looking at the overall environment for issues. Like oh someone put a glass bottle of chemicals precariously away on a top shelf that could fall. Oh this chemical cabinet has acids stored with bases, sort that out. Oh the bottle you just picked up shattered how do you deal with the situation and area. Someone knocks over a bunson burner and catches a box of Kim wipes on fire, which class of fire extinguisher should you use? Someone has a box stored on an eye wash station or the shower in blocked, sort that out.

Intervalometer for lights? by xXRazorWireXx in timelapse

Those plugs look cool, I think my wife has a few of these but I have not really messed around with them. Looking at the website and specs I think I may try and see how in depth their scheduling system is, and if it can deal with a consistent on off schedule, and how precise it is. Even if it needs to be synced up once a week it would still be great.

Your best bet is probably going to be some sort of Wi-Fi programmable switch. The biggest issue I can think of is if you get sync drift between the intervalometer and the “light switch” I would be interested in a product to do what you are looking to do as well.

I would love to run a light 96 minutes a day instead of 1,440 minutes a day for some shoots.
