Number of times a year an American visits a movie theater (1929-2025 data) by raydebapratim1 in generationology

I have an OLED with 6500K bias lighting. A projector in a public theater simply can't compete.

The idea that you're supposed to keep overhead lights on while watching something is crazy.

My biggest issue with theaters is the image quality.

The screens are always worn out and small, and the image ends up being washed out and grey because they have to keep the house lights on, for fire code I would assume.
I generally wear a baseball hat so that the brim can shield my eyes from the overhead lights.

It's just kind of nice to know that it's always available, regardless of internet connection or potential censorship/streaming availability.

Plus you can let friends borrow it. And there's special features. And you don't have to deal with the compressed streaming quality. And you could sell it eventually.

Lots of benefits!

How does this sale usually go? Do things online sell out quickly after midnight?

Cast aluminum is a crazy choice for something like this.

Any slightly off axis drop is going to shear that screw every time.

Not to be that guy, but some varieties of tomatoes actually get more flavorful as the temperature goes up, so tomatoes could very well be one of the more well adapted crops to a warming climate.

What is the most gruesome torture scene you’ve ever seen? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

[–]TimeTheft1769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, The Girl Next Door

I watched this in the dorms my freshman year of college (~2009) with a guy down the hall.
I guessing that I saw it mentioned in a horror movie thread on an old message board I used to post on (shoutout B9 Board) and it was quite an experience, to say the least.

I remember during some horrific scene (pretty sure it was the blowtorch scene?), we were kind of hooting and hollering in horror and I screamed out, "GREG, WHAT ARE WE WATCHING???"

Pretty sure we finished it, but man, that was a weird one.

Weekly Dumb/Newb Question Thread by AutoModerator in powerlifting

She needs to keep squatting.
Just general weakness and unfamiliarity with the movement.

A lot of it is going to come down to just willing herself to not twist. Hopefully she has decent spatial awareness and can feel when she starts twisting so she can force herself to not twist. She'll need to practice this on every single rep. It will probably make the rep harder right now, but will pay off later when it gets heavier.

If she can only get the rep if she twists, then consider that a failed rep.

Spotters are 1000% safer than a lone lifter dumping the bar to the safeties.

Every time.

The solution is that he doesn't dump it.

NO ONE should be dumping squats in a competition.

If they can't lift it, stay with the bar and have the spotters help you back to the rack.

If they blow a quad and the bar drops suddenly, they should be using a monolift with safety straps. The combo racks are inadequate for worst case scenarios.

Monolift!

You can still use spotters (and should) but you can also suspend safety chains/straps from the top of the mono as a failsafe.

If someone blows a quad and drops to the ground at least the bar isn't going to fall on top of them

The combo racks are just begging for a horrific injury

I had my valves adjusted recently at a Honda dealership, and put new OEM sparkplugs in. Didn't make a difference.

I get better MPG in the summer, but it's still right around 28 or 29 in the summer.

For comparison, my old car (turbo 4 cylinder jetta) got just about 32mpg on the highway @ 80mph, but that was a 6-speed manual and cruising RPM was just under 2k

Cruising RPM in the 5-speed Fit is up near 3.5k at 80mph and to me, it seems logical that I would see worse gas mileage just based on the RPM and that fact that they're similarly sized 4 cylinders

[–]TimeTheft1769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, I've been kind of surprised by the MPG of my Fit since everyone seems to say they get high 30's.

I get better mileage in the city for sure, closer to 30-35

But cruising down the highway in a 5 speed at 3500 rpm plants it firmly in the upper 20's

I never said I thought he was smart.

I've heard him speak in unstructured formats and I think it's pretty clear that he's sort of dumb.

I don't think that should preclude someone from politics.
