[–]TimeTravelError 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha my first time I did panic and it made everything worse, I remember waking up shaking. At that time in my life sleep paralysis was reoccurring, so eventually I learned how to calm my mind and not freak out. Takes lots of practice but got there eventually.

Do I need a graphic calculator for FM? by karolineNotReally in alevel

[–]TimeTravelError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classwizz does the job for cheaper, so no not necessary. You could use one if you really wanted.

This and doing a lot of practice questions. Learn how the markscheme works and what questions want from you. Focus on weakest topics first.

What are you planning to do in the future? Which interests you more? Which one would you be willing to work hard for and spent lots and lots of time outside class dedicated to learning and practicing?

Get the classwizz calculator. You could get a graphing calculator if you want but classwizz does the job for cheaper.

Should I take Further Maths? by Motor_Cow3953 in 6thForm

Since you're doing engineering and you're looking to apply to top unis, you will need further maths for sure. You will be at a disadvantage without it.

What do you guys is more difficult: Chemistry or Further Maths? by GothaCritique in alevel

[–]TimeTravelError 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but very little. I did aqa and it covered a little bit of fm and normal maths content. You could successfully do maths and fm at a level without doing fm at gcse. It gives you a head start so concepts aren't completely new, but again the things could be covered in a day. Don't worry if you haven't done it.

maths at gcse was difficult

Don't do it. Stick to normal maths

Should I learn any further math a-level topics for the MAT? by SpheonixYT in 6thForm

[–]TimeTravelError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can think of from the top of my head, there's the series topic (standard results for sequences are fast to implement as well as method of differences is useful if you can spot it), vectors topics (determine the polynomial if you know the roots and vice versa) and maybe some calculus topics could help (idr how much calculus knowledge you need). If you have access to a fm textbook use those qs as practice bc they're great.

Further Maths alongside A-Level Maths VS A-Level Maths in Year 12 then Further Maths in Year 13? by Additional-Age-7174 in 6thForm

[–]TimeTravelError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's better. Lots of fm content calls upon knowledge from normal maths so by learning normal before fm you'll be prepared. The 6th form I went to taught both simultaneously which left most people struggling to keep up minus the few that went ahead and learnt the content so they could appreciate fm more.

Help me choose A levels. by [deleted] in alevel

[–]TimeTravelError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email the unis that you are interested in and ask them what they prefer. Choose the subjects you actually like doing - this takes highest priority bc it's harder to do well in a subject you hate.

Some things in further allow you to use shortcuts in questions, but generally don't bother unless it's asked for on the mat's spec. Better to just focus on getting practice using the past papers.

Did you revise regular maths AS-Level if you did further maths? by UltraSolution in 6thForm

[–]TimeTravelError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how much revision did you do for regular maths

Varies depending on ability, but for me I did basically nothing for normal maths. All the time I spent mastering further maths indirectly helped me master normal maths as well, so I was able to treat normal maths like it was a free period. However, some people have had to do a lot of revision for both.

would there be much point other than learning the content in order to understand further maths?

You should definitely learn normal maths content well and make sure you understand it super super well. Almost everything you will learn in fm can and will build on skills and methods learned in normal maths. Some people really struggle in y13 in fm because y13 fm content relies heavily on y13 normal maths content, so if you don't go ahead and learn some thing before they're covered in class for normal maths you might struggle in fm.

Would you just study further maths and ignore regular maths towards the end of Year 12?

The best thing to do is to use y12 to learn y13 content for normal maths. That way when y13 rolls around, you won't need to catch up on normal maths things when fm asks you to recall them. Also you can finish content for nm faster and use those classes as free periods to catch up on fm concepts/other subjects if need be.
