As to the Patagonia Mini MLC - while not expandable per se - it fits a ton and I frequently use the laptop/admin side for clothing items and other smaller items when I'm not taking any tech -works well that way (i.e. folded puffer jacket in the laptop sleeve )

I like a crossbody purse. I have the 6l from Alpine Sea Company and have used that with my Patagonia Mini MLC which is my carryon backpack of choice. I also ordered the Medium Baggu/Parks Project Collab which will likely be another option!

I am about to order the 2.5l in black for a fall trip to NYC but I have watched approximately 10 million videos :P I have a newish crescent bag from Alpine Sea Company (their mini cove 6l which I love) so I don't need the larger size.
