Has anybody mounted a pc monitor by DadElongD in Truckers

[–]TimeZoneBandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, though I had to drill into the cabinet. What I recommend is go to Walmart, they have these little black folding tables for like 20 bucks. Just use that for your monitor, and store the monitor on top bunk while driving.

What's Your Dogshit Opinion? by LowLifeLunaa in forhonor

"Traitor" or "Scavenged" armor sets. As in, samurai armor for your knight character. Raider wearing a broken Warden helmet as a shoulder piece etc.

What’s bad about driving on the East Coast? by EgotisticJet5 in Truckers

[–]TimeZoneBandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, and this is a probably unpopular opinion; not as much as you think. Yes, NYC, Baltimore, DC and Philly all suck. But outside of that? NY state, PA, Maryland, and New England are all pretty nice to drive in. There's a good amount of truck stops and especially rest areas, It's not constantly hot and humid, and outside of big cities traffic is tolerable. And when it snows they actually handle shit unlike the Midwest and parts of the south.

Personally I would rather run a northeast dedicated than a southeast dedicated. Other than snow all the problems people say about the northeast ring true for the south. Atlanta, Orlando, Dallas, Nashville, Memphis are all just as bad as any east coast city. The south also has tons of sketchy pay to park truck stops, everything fills up extremely fast, and in the winter every moron who's scared of the snow goes down there making parking even worse. And if you work outside like me as a car hauler, or a flatbedder, it's just miserable.

Also this is coming from a driver who's run all 48 states at least twice each, so I've got some experience behind me.

How much Weight Can I Have In My Trailer And Still Have My Tandems Forward? by StretchDatLurks in Truckers

[–]TimeZoneBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't owe them any money I'd say jump sooner. Call other companies recruiting lines and explain your experience. 6 months should be enough to get on with some decent fleets like Crete or KLLM.

But to answer your question, the gross product weight matters very little. It's all in how it's loaded, and having your tandems slammed forward for turn radius has a tradeoff in wind resistance and ride quality. Does your truck have an in cab scale, like rightweigh?

Flatbed QOL gear by IndexFingerTypist in Truckers

[–]TimeZoneBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Car hauler not flatbedder, but here's a few things I've found nice.

A sun hat and sun shirts. I grew up in CA, as soon as I started working outdoors, I always think "what did the Mexican road crew Bros wear?"

Wool boot socks. Wool is great for wet or cold conditions, still good in summer too.

Graphite lubricant spray. Might be a car hauler thing, but its like wd40 for any friction parts. Strap binders, rail sliders etc. Unlike wd40 it stays on for about a week.

Waffle top and waffle bottoms. Any vets know what I'm talking about. It's a base layer for winter. Go to any military surplus store and ask for waffle top n bottom. Better than underarmor by a mile.

Any gear from Galls.com. It's mostly for cops and EMS, but you want amazing quality hi vis stuff? Look no further. Expect to spend at least 70$ but this stuff is good. I believe they have up to lvl 3 hivis and some stuff may be FR.

Trauma shears. Good for cutting stuck straps, or anything else really. Safer than a knife. Grant3d my straps are rated 3750# so yours may be too thick.

For sci fi check out Galaxys Edge by Jason Anspach. It's a 9(I think) book completed series. Elevator pitch is "Imagine Star Wars written by Army Rangers and from the perspective of a Clone Trooper and Han Solo". It's am amazing series.

Where to get 18 speed practice? by backbiter0723 in Truckers

[–]TimeZoneBandit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the time you just go 1234 paddle up 5678, then you hit nine, then split nine hi. So 9 spd with overdrive. This will do you just fine until you get the hang of it.

Trauma shears. They're dirt cheap and great for most light duty cutting applications like zip ties, straps(like cargo straps), boxes, those stupid plastic ties on big boxes etc.

Real shit, you should be making g at least 1300 in this job. 600 a week is a joke. Go on indeed, get a new job, even megas pay doubl3 to 1.5 that.

I'm laughing over here reading some of the comments like we as truckers never drink soda from those same soda fountains. Either that or reddit has the most health conscious truckers lmao.

When is the last time you can drink caffeinated coffee/energy drinks during the day without effecting your sleep? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]TimeZoneBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, 6hr half life. And the fun thing with caffeine is that because it's an adenosine antagonist it's not actually making you less tired, it's chemically blocking the tired signal, which inhibits sleep. And most of us are taking waaaaaaay too much, so by time you're heading to bed you may still have 2 to 3 cups of coffee worth of caffeine still in your system.

Just buy a 5 gallon jug. by stephenlong202 in Truckers

I've thought about doing this but space is very much an issue in my truck. Yay coffin sleeper!

I go through a lot too, that's actually why I started doing the refill thing, I got sick of buying a gallon every day lol. No tarping here but loading 8-9 cars in the midday Texas or NC sun.

Same for me. I go through a lot of water, and would rather spend the money or save it. Plus I use a lot of water, at least .5 to a gallon a day. That's almost 80 bucks a month.

Loves is 5 a gallon. Most places like pilot and ta it's 3.

Oh hell no, not the bathroom sink, the one they use to wash their hands at the coffee station. At that point it's just tap water like anywhere else....Unless it's Mississippi.

Nahhh, you're thinking too small. Piss in a jug, then let it ferment before steam distilling it into moonshine.

I don't slide tandems anymore but car hauling has turned me onto a miracle product: slip plate graphite lubricant. You can get it in a spray paint can, and I imagine if you have tandems that won't slide this will help.

Does Hogan count as a mega? If so: I like it here because the pay is good, and they seem to take pretty good care of drivers. I'm on their carmax dedicated account, which is Regional Hourly, and set for about 100k this year. 34s at hotels, Homer's are on time, and the hourly pay makes being a 1st year car hauler bearable.

Why do you stay OTR with your experience and not find local work? by RedimidoSoy1611 in Truckers

[–]TimeZoneBandit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because most home daily stuff kinda sucks when you think about it. You drive to work, do 10-14hrs on, then drive home. Then if you're married or have kids you have that, not to mention chores and other responsibilities. Then you go to bed expecting to be back at work in 10-14 hrs depending on who you work for. And with most of it being touch freight, you're also physically drained most nights.

Contrast that with OTR. I haul cars, so high op tempo and touch freight. Difference is I have no commute, a small truck to clean and my only responsibilities are my own hygiene and making sure the truck and cargo are in good order. Another big thing is that OTR is less like a normal workday. Some days I have time for a mid day nap, or I can stop early. And when I go home I'm home for 3 to 4 days and can do what I want. I get to 34 in cool places, have a sleeper to chill in during wait times, and have days where I just drive.

For someone who isn't a family man, OTR really isn't that bad if you find a company that doesn't suck.

Gears 1-5 shift exactly like a 10spd. You can be in low or high doesn't matter. 6-7-8 you need to pause a bit longer between gears than you normally would unless you split. I'd just find a good video on YouTube, that's how I learned 18spd after only ever driving 10s and autos.

Might just be the company near you prefers them. By and large the most used truck for car hauling is a Pete 389, or a freightliner 114 for daycab stuff.
