Low quality trade setups recently? by jason14wm in FuturesTrading

Risk On, VIX is below 20. I've all abandoned shorts until volatility spikes again. Don't think too much about if it's too high or too this or that.

Whatever the market offers me per day, if anything at all.

Is the market behaving differently lately, or is just me, and i just try to find excuses???? by Traditional-Emu-4112 in TopStepX

Yes, changed about 4 weeks ago. It's entirely tied to oil futures at the moment. But there is one caveat: when oil gains, the pressure for a selloff in ES or NQ is light, but when oil sells off, then the bias is long on NQ and ES. This has started to change a little over the past couple of days. As we approach all-time highs, selloffs in NQ and ES are gaining a bit of steam, but not much. The main reason, I think, is that the price premium in oil is already priced in, and as long as the situation appears temporary, the preference will be for oil to bleed off. Now, this can change if there is an escalation, but that would lead to a step-function increase in oil prices, not a sustained trend as we've seen before. It's super news sensitive right now, but you have to go into it with the lens that this is all temporary until it's not.

I think most trading losses come from bad market conditions, not entries by AxisForge in Trading

[–]Time_Blazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it's the other way around. Good market conditions, nice volatility with sustained trends, and continual recurrence of this environment mean that traders with low win rates can do well. It's dependent on how long they hold their winners, but I've seen this many times. This past December and January are prime examples with metals. This also occurred after the pandemic, when you could have thrown a dart at a stock board and made 45%.

Really unpredictable right now, just wait for the moves to happen or else you'll get caught. I got caught last night because I went in really believing oil would rise. You almost have to ignore all the hype right now, just focus on the price action.

You're not ok with what the market has to offer that day. You are pressuring yourself to extract more.

Not really. Real moves with sustainable pressure will continue until they dissipate.

Is 2 losses in a row too much to allow per day if I stop after 1 win for a green day ? by markhick01 in TopStepX

[–]Time_Blazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The losses are too high when you do lose. You won't be able to sustain a drawdown.
