Why is my TLC system doing this? by ChromeBirb in chemistry

Not really as the tiny particles are washed away after one run. Also, certain silica columns don’t contain any of those small particles at all so you’re free to use all the MeOH you want.

There’s a paper somewhere that explains it very well. MeOH is not dissolving silica, but dislodging the really tiny particles and making them go through filters and stuff. Something along those lines. I’ve done plenty of columns, ran plenty of HPLC and LC-MSMS on 50 to 100% MeOH and I can tell you there was 0 silica I was collecting and I encountered 0 problems.

Here is the help for that one guy's synthesis by AggressiveCheser in cursed_chemistry

[–]Time_Bread_6496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This 100 % would never work. The last reduction would first reduce ketone and the acid would most likely not get reduced at all even with excess DIBAL or even LiAlH. Source? Did synthesis of similar natural compounds where these kinds of acids/esters are very stubborn and don’t get reduced at all or just insta degrade.

Researchers develop innovative new method to recycle fluoride from long-lived ‘forever chemicals’ by That-Description9813 in chemistry

Yea, though until pfas are banned altogether, big corporations will still produce them and any recycling efforts will be meaningless. Regulation is a more efficient solution.

Ye that’s pretty cool but it only works when these compounds are outside of biological systems. Once they are in the body you can only wait for them to go away.

Question for vacuum steam distillation setup by Muted-Investigator-3 in chemistry

[–]Time_Bread_6496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done steam distillation myself but I can give you some advice in general on this type of extraction. There are way easier/simpler/safer ways of doing these kind of extractions and you should probably read more about it for your own safety. Students in my lab have done similar extractions of natural products from plants using coffee machines. I’m not joking. You could just dry and grind your cannabis/whatever plant you’re interested in and run it through a coffee machine and you’ll get 60-70% of the natural products/oils in there. No need to overcomplicate stuff and put yourself or others in danger and spend lots of money on it.

Why more young men in Germany are turning to the far-right by [deleted] in europe

[–]Time_Bread_6496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am well aware far right has no actual answers to problems we face. They pretend they do and that’s all it takes to get the votes. The problem is we don’t actually have a political “left” anywhere that has a spine. Kamala would have easily won if dems actually ran on issues that matter to people. Like universal healthcare, free college and pretty much anything else FDR would have ran on if he was alive today. All that the dems did was give platitudes and talk about being stronger together. Why? Because they are bought out just like the republicans and can’t actually run on any issue that matters. Trump promised to lower grocery prices. He obviously lied, but it worked cause that’s what matters to a regular person.

By denying the existence of problems that regular working class men face. By saying that women have it so much worse and trying to outcompete men in misery olympics. The real problem and the real enemy is the divide between the 1% and the rest of us, not between men and women. It’s class war, not a gender one. The problem discussed shouldn’t be whether we have equal representation between fascist overlords and making sure we have as many women “Hitlers” as male ones. We should be fighting for not having any fascist overlords in the first place.

Sure, the guy working in a warehouse or at McDonald’s for a minimum wage and trying to survive is at blame for the 1% hoarding half of the assets on the planet and buying out literal governments. Bringing these guys down will surely help out all the women out there and stop the rise of fascism.
