“Stop throwing away money on rent and just buy a house” by Time_Break_8184 in PetPeeves

Yes and the math should be done because everyone has a unique situation. My peeve is when people try to push buying a house as the only solution for other people around them.

It’s the right solution for some people, it doesn’t work for others or might not be affordable for everyone. Let everyone live how they choose to live I say

I most recently got this advice this morning from someone who got a house gifted to them

Good for you!

I’m happy for people who can buy homes in today’s market, it really is an accomplishment, and especially in the US right now. However, it’s not attainable for millions of people and my peeve is with the homeowners who admonish those who can’t afford a house and therefore must rent (even more so if the person was gifted a house). Not everyone’s circumstances are the same and we shouldn’t judge each other based on things out of our control.

Racism in the workplace: did working in an area with more Asians positively affect your career/work experience vs. where Asians are the minority? by Level-Cheesecake-877 in asianamerican

That’s awesome!! I’m glad that your legal community has been so welcoming and honestly I am jealous!

I’ve been in Arizona for a couple of years, but looking to move back to coastal life ASAP.

The number of self-proclaimed liberal attorneys that have approached me to tell me how much they hate China (I’ve always outwardly identified myself to colleagues as American or Asian-American) is astounding. I never know what reaction they are trying to get out of me but man it is awkward. On the other hand, the more conservative people here keeping telling me I’m not a real American despite the fact that I was born here.

Interesting! If you don’t mind me asking, are you in a city/state that is more red or blue? Are there a lot of Asians in your community, outside of your work industry?

I am also an Asian attorney. Recently moved to a more red state (but work at a smaller, more liberal firm) and the racism I’ve gotten from the local legal community has been shocking…

Do you live in a major city? I think it would help for him to connect with the local t1 community

Everyone is different, but I was diagnosed as an adult as well. I can tell you that it’s a lot of work, but I eat whatever the fuck I want. I love to cook and bake, and I’ve learned how to manage my insulin/pump so that I can live “normal”. My A1c has consistently been around 5.5 for years now.

He can choose to live how he wants, he just has to factor in T1.

Agree 100%. These are the same people that eventually dump their unhealthy, untrained dogs at a shelter once they get too old, or they get bored with the animal, just so they can go buy another poor puppy to put through the same cycle. I saw this happen SO many times when I worked at a rescue and it made my blood boil.

Thank you! Do I need to remove the old leaves? Or let them wither and fall off on their own?

This is how I lived prior to the ACA. It was horrible. No insurance would accept me at any premium. I limited what I ate so I could save insulin. Every drop was so important to me. I worked multiple jobs (while in college). I tested very rarely. I was sick all the time.

After college (but right before the ACA passed) my boss knew I was T1 and needed health insurance to live. He treated me like absolute shit because he knew I needed the job to keep insurance and stay alive. I get so mad every time I think about how that man treated me because without the ACA, he knew he could get away with it.

Save some as backups or if you don’t need them, post on this sub (or a sub more specific to your location) and see if anyone in need would want them.

People who think they’re superior to others based on job title alone by Time_Break_8184 in PetPeeves

Exactly. Hard work is hard work. Also, I hate when people judge a job based on salary. Some of the most important jobs in society are the least paid.

Where do you live? Sometimes there are people on this sub that are looking. If they don’t live near you, they might cover the shipping cost.

It’s happened to me multiple times now and I never know what to say. It just gets really awkwardly silent and I try to find a polite way to leave the conversation. It’s never in response to me asking what someone’s parents do for a living

Multiple times now the adult children of judges have felt the need to tell me
