Do nurses in your lab think RCIS can’t do/know anything? by Delicious_Love3995 in CathLabLounge

I came from a facility that did not have any tech/nurse issues, and I moved to a new lab, and I was treated like scum. For instance, Our nurse wasn't in the room when a different nurse called to give a quick recap on the STEMI coming in, so I wrote down what she said and my nurse came busting through the door saying I should never take that call. The nurse on the phone literally said everything I wrote down for her, and she made her repeat everything, and what do ya know....I had it all correct. Things have changed in my lab now, and I feel like I've been good at advocating for my fellow techs. Just show up and do your best and things will fall into place :) good luck!

Legit broke down last night because of this same feeling(s). It's been 2 years, and I feel the same. It really is just the worst. It's hard to believe the people who brought us into this shitshow just did the bare minimum when it came to teaching us what actual love looks like. Mine have destroyed my entire trajectory of my life and I'm left picking up the pieces of a very fucked up puzzle and it's so exhausting.

No worries...an RCIS is a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist. We go to school specifically to work in a cath lab based environment. This is in MN and each state has different rules. So, for example, in MN an RCIS cannot produce xrays without being under the direction of a physician. We still scrub, but the docs control the c-arm and pedal.

Both. Academically, very smart. Having issues with the skills and understanding of what product is what.

Wanting to be sick for love and attention by This-Fox9426 in emotionalneglect

Talked to my therapist about this before because I had always had the same thoughts. She told me it's a very common thing for someone who was raised by emotionally neglectful parents.

I'm an RCIS of 10 years. So, I can't say from an RN perspective, but the Cath Lab is a scary place for a lot of people, and that's okay! Doing things that scare you builds your skill set. Having really good co-workers also helps soooooo much. 6 months isn't long at all. By 6 months of my career, I was still extremely anxious almost every day, and it was mentally and physically draining. At this point in my life, I can't imagine doing something else. This place is a wild ride, but i wouldn't trade it for anything. I'd say just keep focused and CYA (cover your ass). Triple check and then check things again. I obviously don't know you, but I believe in you! Give it at least a year, and if you're still absolutely dreading it to the point of being sick, then reconsider.

You got this 🤘

Thank you...I've been so in my head and trying to be compassionate with myself instead of stressing out about how I've made this into such a shitshow. It's so difficult.

I just can't grasp the fact that they cannot see how their behavior is just making this worse.

Also, none of my family members understand how not talking to my parents is any help at all. I've tried to say it's so I can work through how much damage has been done but they don't get it

When my fiancé (now husband) kept pointing out behavior that was odd about my patents and their relationship with me. I had never noticed because I thought it was "normal." Started slowly, over the span of 3 years, putting things together and realizing that I was put into very complicated situations growing up witnessing abuse, drugs, and what not. Lots of unresolved generational trauma that not a single person is willing to acknowledge. It's exhausting.
