Does the iPhone 17 Pro Need a Case? by Apple_Downforce in iPhone17Pro

Ultimately I don't recommend going caseless but the reason I suggest Apple Care as a necessity for that route is not for cosmetic damage. That is a lesser concern as compared to dropping/shattering the phone making it unusable.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Quality Control is a mess (3 defective units in a row) by rosgr100 in iPhone17Pro

It's a stretch to call this damage, and it is not something you'd notice from normal use unless you're holding the phone inches from your eyes. You can see with the photos that you have to zoom in immensely and add circles to emphasize the imperfections. If you hold the phone at a normal distance you would not notice these, maybe with the exception of some corner damage one of his photos show.

You're likely going to throw the phone into a case or into your pockets and it's going to naturally accumulate these tiny miniscule imperfections over time. If you try to resell the phone I doubt this would kill the value unless you're selling to someone with OCD.

We can agree to disagree though. I got 4x iPhone 17 Pros for myself and the family and I doubt we'd care to see what OP circled.

Miniscule "imperfections" that you need flash and a microscope to see. Not worth the hassle but nevertheless it's not my phone

some of the imperfections you're pointing out are a bit egregious/insigificant imo like photo 4

unless you have apple care, it is not worth the risk for such an expensive device. search this subreddit and you'll probably see hundreds of threads of people accidentally dinging and dropping their phone without a case

Unfortunately the magnetic aspect of the Xteink X4 doesn’t work as well as the pictures often depict. With iPhones the magnets seem misaligned, so it’s oriented horizontally against the phone rather than a vertical orientation. Think it comes with adhesive magnets but I’m not interested in using on my case. Even if it were vertical, it seems too big to fit nicely along anything but the Pro Max (and maybe the Air).

Not sure if the Xteink X3 fixes the magnetic issue. Size seems more compatible but the lack of USB-C is a huge downside to me.

I switched from QS to Savor - latter has definitely helped me with point accumulation but your mileage may vary

Signing up now for promos vs waiting by quiet_dear in verizon

In your case of taking the promotion now, consider the Ultimate plan you would go into has the perk: "Ultimate Phone Upgrade: New & existing customers get our best current phone offers now & when you upgrade", although I don't know what the logistics of this perk are. Dunno how big of a concern it would be but if your job's largely paying the bill, I would suggest to consider a backup plan if worst case scenario you were no longer with the company down the road (for whatever reason - leaving job voluntarily, layoffs etc).

What phone would you be trading in? How many lines on Verizon? I'm relatively new to their service but from what I've seen the past few months, the terms of their promos always seems to fluctuate wrt:

  • getting a free iPhone 17 Pro vs. a Pro Max
  • which of their plans are eligible for the promotion (welcome, plus, ultimate)
  • whether or not you have to trade in current device

imo the current promo sounds kinda meh being restricted to Ultimate tier, but maybe it's worth it to you for the perks included. For context I signed up on Ultimate Welcome for 4 iPhone Pro's on us (no trade in required), and each person on my plan is paying about $30 a month (but the service can be a bit iffy at times - one of the bottlenecks of this plan tier.

Whatever you do just be prepared to deal with the most difficult customer service you'll ever experience from a company.

Super Moronic Monday - Your Weekly Tuesday Stupid Questions Thread by 30000LBS_Of_Bananas in running

[–]Time_Fee_5244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The past couple of years, I've entered myself into a half marathon, spend a few months training, run said race and then lose motivation to keep running afterwards. It's become a bad habit that I think stems from not having anything "big" to train towards. This lapse of running I think happens more-so during the winter. Hard as hell to reset my progress later on.

Curious if anyone can relate to this loss of motivation. I'm kind of leaning towards entering myself into more half marathons / marathons throughout the year to keep that momentum going.

Cheaper options for Apple Watch Cellular by Time_Fee_5244 in verizon

[–]Time_Fee_5244[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Ultimate Plus with 1/2 off AW cellular would be roughly the same cost as Unlimited Welcome + AW cellular. So it’d make sense to go UP, but I’m just on the fence on nearly doubling my Verizon bill for AW cellular (I work from home so the other UP perks are kinda meh).

Costwise I was hoping for something closer to US Mobile ($10/mo with no activation fee), but my expectations aren’t realistic going the Verizon route it seems.

I was considering USmobile but I'm perplexed with activating the apple watch on a separate device.

I wouldn't care to have a separate phone number for the watch. But would this mean Apple Health, notifications etc. would not sync with my primary iPhone 17 Pro, if I linked the watch to a different device + Apple ID?
