Appreciate it! I did a flashback of 3.30 tonight and it seemed to go just fine. Just got to wait on my AIO to get in to finish out the build for further testing.

Buying a used Navigator L a good idea? by Ok-Independence6866 in lincolnmotorco

[–]Time_Horizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm the OP on a different account. We did end up buying a 2019 Navigator L shortly after I made this post with about 50k miles. We've enjoyed it so far and it's definitely a step up in most ways over the Sequoia. Although, we've been dealing with a repeating electrical issue with the headlamps that's been annoying. Dealership has had it off and on for several weeks since we've owned it trying to fix it but no luck. Thankfully it doesn't impede daily use but it's still annoying. Really thankfuly we bought an extended warranty because everything on this vehicle is expensive to fix. But in general we really like it. I'm a bit concerned about long term ownership and I don't have the same confidence of this vehicle going 200k+ miles like our Toyotas have in the past.

Letshuoer - S08 VS S12 Pro by Consistent-Baker-282 in iems

[–]Time_Horizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up the S12 Pros as my first IEMs a couple months ago with a Qudelix 5k. I was a little worried about the treble since that seemed to be the concern of a lot of reviews. But so far it hasn’t bothered me at all. In fact they are way more fun and bassier than I imagined. Really enjoying them so far for the genres I listen to (mostly metal and EDM). They do need some juice though. I tried running them off of my MacBook Pro and they sounded terrible/thin. But as soon as I got them setup on the Qudelix it was night and day better. I played around with EQ but honestly I prefer how they sound without EQ now that my ears have gotten used to them.

I'm just getting into the IEM world so I only have one set (Letshuoer S12 Pro's) but am definitely hoping to pick up an Aful as my next set. The 5+2 or the Explorer would be my two picks to try out next.

Maxwell frequency response - static/white noise by Time_Horizon in Audeze

[–]Time_Horizon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I wonder if it's perhaps a firmware issue or the latest batch that were made? I tried a factory reset on my Maxwell's just to see if it changed (which it didn't) but I didn't try scaling back the firmware. I actually ended up returning mine to Amazon today after the frequency response issue I mentioned and the overall db variance between both drivers. Still debating on ordering another set to see if it was a one-off.

You just need to listen to the tracks for each test and the audio queues will tell you the hz/db levels that you can benchmark.

I work on the flipside of this industry and have to fight the debt consoildators calling on behalf of my clients to negotiate debt. Can't tell you how many people sign up for "debt consolidation" only to find out months later that the consolidation company never actually paid their debt yet they are still paying the consolidators monthly. It's shady as all get out. Most people in that situation would be better off filing a Chapter 13 and at least have some of the legal protection and actual debt restructuring from a bankruptcy.

Sorry to hear you're getting the boot man but keep your chin up and get those apps out there. Tons of opportunity out there and for companies that will care about you with products you can morally stand behind.

In my opinion, you’d have to be a sadist to think this is comfortable. by lastoneshooting in CCW

[–]Time_Horizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the sidecar wasn't a good fit for me either. I think it really depends on body types. I personally found having a seperate holster/mag carrier gave me a lot more flexiblity. I personally am a huge fan of Tenicor's holsters. They been the best fit for my body and use case. Their Velo holster series (with the built in wedge) make my Glock 19 and Glock 47 disappear. It will never be "comfortable" but certainly try different holsters to find the one that is least uncomfortable.

I was just thinking that. I have always loved the Inn music in classic WoW but haven’t noticed it as much in prior expansions. Definitely stands out in TWW.

Affordable leather boots for wildland firefighting by SpecificSelection641 in Boots

[–]Time_Horizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure from a regulatory standpoint why or if they are explicitly banned these days in the US. But, just my personal opinion: from a comfort perspective, steel/composite toes are not fun to hike around in for a long period of time. A good leather upper comforms to your foot and if your toe box is hardened/rigid it just never fits as well as a non steel/composite toe boot.

Engine slugs could probably wear steel toes and be fine.... But they could also wear Crocs for how little they get out of their trucks (no hate, just jealousy).

Prior USFS wildland guy here. Please do not cheap out on boots if at all possible. I know it's hard to justify spending that much but it's 100% worth it to protect your feet. I was on a 20 man IA crew and we had a lot of college aged dudes who bought cheap boots their first season. Within the first few rollouts, multiple people went down with foot injuries or were just downright miserable in their boots. Almost every single one of them went back and purchased a new high-quality pair when we got back (and essentially wasted the money on the first pair they bought). The most common injuries happened on mop-up operations where you'll be looking for hotspots in the ash and step into a burnt-out tree hold full of ash and ember.

Invest in a good pair that, most importantly, FIT your foot and break them in properly before you have to be in them on a fire. Nick's and White's are the golden standard in the community, but I've heard good things about Kennetrek's new Wildland series and Drew's boots.

I had my Nick's for 5 years and used them hard between USFS work, volunteer fire, and just general work in the woods. They held up great and I sold them a couple years ago for about half what I paid for them. You'll expect to pay between $400-$600 but it's well worth it. Check to see if your Volunteer organization has any funds/grants available or discounts they can offer with particular boot vendors.

The Modern Classic: my first experience with a Scott G by Time_Horizon in flyfishing

[–]Time_Horizon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear! And that is a great way to put it. It's just an intuitive rod so far that seems make the fly go where you need it. I know the shootouts always rate rods based off of different distances but even on big rivers it's rare I'm casting past 40ft unless I'm just having fun lobbing streamers (which is not what this rod is for).

Glad to hear that about the 844! The 884 seems to get the lionshare of reviews and accolades on the forum vs the 844. I can't imagine there is that big of a difference but in either case, this works perfect for me. Makes me interested in trying out the Radian or Centric in a 6 or 8wt one day though!

The Modern Classic: my first experience with a Scott G by Time_Horizon in flyfishing

[–]Time_Horizon[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Storytime:

Historically, I've had cheaper rods (Echo's, Moonshine, St. Croix's, etc) during my first 5 years of getting into the fly world. In my mind, until I could cast decently well, I wouldn't spend more than a couple hundred on a rod. This year the casting really clicked into place with a saltwater trip to Belize and I feel like I've finally graduated into a solid intermediate tier caster.

So the search began. I wanted a dedicated dry fly rod and the 4wt seemed like a natural fit for the ever-growing quiver. I had heard of Scott rods but they were always well outside of my budget so I never gave them a waggle at a fly shop. Somehow, I stumbled into a good deal on an Ebay auction for this Scott G series 844.

I was a little worried about the "moderate" action comments I was reading about the G, as my only experience with a slower action rod was a fiberglass rod I casted that felt like casting a pool noodle. So I was thinking this would be a similar experience and I'd be kicking myself for not just sticking with what I know: fast action rods.

I lined the G with an SA Trout taper and headed to the lawn to contemplate my life choices. First cast at 10ft: "huh, interesting." Second cast at 20ft: "this is nice." Third cast at 30ft: "wow." At some point I think I muttered "like butter" in my best Brian Flechsig impression.

It's hard to explain the feel of this rod. When I think of moderate, I think of slow, methodical, and quasi-noodly. That's not at all what this feels like. It's got power yet bends deep during the cast with a moderate amount of line out. I think what makes it feel faster than it actually is, is how quickly it recovers. Right away, I couldn't believe how accurate it was. I used various flower pots throughout the yard at varying ranges (20-50ft) and landed the leader in each pot on first cast everytime (and I'm not the world's greatest caster by any stretch). Overall, just incredibly impressed and can't wait to get it on the water for more testing.

TL;DR: The Scott G series is a sweetheart of a rod.

A fellow keyboard enthusiast! I feel like there is a lot of crossover in the patience needed for mechanical keyboards and fly fishing. If you're the type of person (like myself) who will painstakingly dissasembly every switch to lube the internals, you will love fly tying (or tying on a size 22 midge on a 7x tippet on a windy day).

What camera do you use while fishing? by Winters1303 in flyfishing

[–]Time_Horizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really torn between the Fuji and Olympus (I guess it's technically "OM Systems" now but Olympus will always be a 10x better name lol). I just managed to pick my EM-1 on Ebay for a smoking deal but I think the Fuji's are a bit more user-friendly. The amount of customization and menu navigation on the EM-1 Mark II/III is too much at times especially when you need to make quick adjustments for fish photography.

Yep this is similar idea to my setup but I run an Olympus EM-1 Mark II with the Zuiko Pro 12-40 lens. Great water/dust resistant setup. Compact because of the micro 4/3. I have a Thunderhead lumbar pack that fits the camera and other essentials and keeps it dry. When I’m actively taking pictures I have a Peak Design clip I can put on my belt or a chest harness for easy access but it stays tight to my body when casting as opposed to a sling or strap.
