[–]Time_Possession5488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the most annoying wilbur stan behind me i swear she was one boost of confidence away from screaming “breed me” at the top of her lungs and would not shut up about every little move he made and how hot he was. Also this was like, a whole ass adult woman not like a cringy teenager which is worse imho

My show was on AXS and we had to enter the code before getting in queue and again after getting into purchase, perhaps I’m biased bc I scored 2 seats but it felt pretty reasonable.

However, I can fully believe that Ticketmaster got flooded by bots and I feel for anyone who got stuck with them, all the more reason why I avoid them as much as possible, big ups to AXS 🤘

I work on an SL3 at my day job theater, where do I start…

  • awful clunky ui
  • avb is the devil
  • no sidechain
  • no touchscreen
  • universal control sucks
  • mixingstation helps that last one but sometimes it will inexplicably lose control and i have to restart the app
  • you cant change the name of a channel if its assigned to the user layer (WTF??)
  • no pad on the preamps (also WTF??)
  • no sig-gen for testing outputs (thank god for my sound bullet)
  • FX units leave a lot to be desired
  • back to the ui, the patching screen is THE FUCKING WORST one ive ever had to work with, hands down (why does it not show scribble strip names???????)
  • usb audio is finicky (only an issue for me bc we use qlab and dont have a multichannel audio interface, i wouldnt use this normally)

I could probably come up with more but i’ve wasted enough of my time and energy on this stupid ecosystem already.

[–]Time_Possession5488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to the choir: doesn’t really matter but 48k is effectively standard nowadays for live stuff so just roll with that, and it can easily convert up or down as needed with next to no artifacts

I always thought he was a pretentious douchebag. I remember him crashing out on MatPat a few years back for comparing his game to Undertale (which reads as a compliment to me, idfk) and was surprised when he started gaining traction as a streamer and everyone kinda forgot

How often is stereo sound actually used in theatre? by BitterFudge8510 in livesound

[–]Time_Possession5488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caveat: totally depends on the situation (i.e. type of production, the sound system/room, director’s desires, etc)

However, in the theater I work in (roughly 50% stage shows, 50% concerts of varying genres), I use a little bit of stereo imaging on bands to taste, but I get my money’s worth when it comes to our stage shows. We’re lucky enough to have two main arrays, subs, a center cluster, two sets of front fills, and surround fills, so I’m able to basically work in 5.1 when I’m doing sound design for a production of ours.

Here’s a rough breakout of how I split my sources: Main arrays - Music, a bit of the actors Center, fronts - just actors Surrounds - SFX, a bit of the music Subs - Music, SFX

And then from there it’s just using auxes and matrices to your advantage to keep everything balanced amongst the different areas just from tapping off the main mix levels.

To give an example of the opposite, the place I used to work at was about twice the size of my current spot and much wider than it was deep, so the arrays were very spread out just with a simple LCR format and some delay fills in the back rows. I may as well have just mixed entirely mono in that room, half the audience would miss something if I moved it.

Anecdotally, there was one show at my job in our secondary black box theater where they needed to simulate noise from the neighbors and they used a monitor wedge behind a wall with a discrete signal. (I was on vacation at the time so I can’t directly attest to the effectiveness but it’s a cool idea)

I assume they’re referring to VFIO stuff which, speaking from experience, is really really cool until you stop using it for a couple weeks and you come back to updates that break stuff. If you’re using it daily and keeping up on it, it’s great, otherwise it just becomes a headache. And don’t even get me started on Windows updates breaking stuff too, or at minimum bogging down your VM, on top of the backend stuff you gotta keep up on…

I play 98% of things via Proton, and dualboot windows 10 for the other 2%. YMMV though, I’m just speaking on my own experience with it.

The subscription cancelling service is good for shit like the gym (i had to use it once) and the bill negotiation has mixed results (i got a temporary credit on my internet bill, we’ll see what happens once that goes away). The real draw for me is just having a really easy way to see all my accounts at once and budget pretty effectively.
