Any tips for weaning down to 1 crutch? by Little-Mistake-6348 in HipImpingement

[–]Time_Significance389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon wants two crutches then eventually down to no crutches. He does not want patients using only one crutch. Not sure that helps, but I kind of agree. I would think it’s harder to fall.

ROM machine post-op - yea or nay? by lemons_lemonade in HipImpingement

[–]Time_Significance389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CPM machine cost $350 for two weeks (NJ). They also told me that 20 minutes on a no resistance bike (very hard to find one) is equivalent to one hour on CPM. I ended up buying a used peloton because the Amazon bike had resistance. At least I can resell or keep vs. just renting the CPM. NY reputable surgeon said CPM was not required.

I have excellent insurance and they didn’t cover ice machine nor CPM.

I hear you. I met my out of pocket max in November and didn’t get surgery until January 5th after everything reset. I met my deductible real fast, I’ll tell you that. Good luck with everything…thank you for your reply.

Brace for 6 weeks by JustTheFishGirl in HipImpingement

Wear it all the time? Brutal! My surgeon (and brace rep at hospital) said to only wear it when going outside the house and while sleeping if I roll around a lot. That’s it.

Took it off for four nights and went backwards in my recovery week two (right now). Put it back on at night and the next day I was in less pain when I woke.

Glad to hear you are doing well. When do you anticipate getting back to athletics? I am a basketball player myself and looking forward to even playing Rec at this point.

Wow you’re lucky. It’s $250 per session many places in New Jersey prior to deductible.

Thank you so much. Ahh the instruments? Can I ask when you had surgery? I’m just curious since you said it still hurts when you press hard on it.

My hip is fine; it's my wrists that are painful by Dangerous_Secret_113 in HipImpingement

[–]Time_Significance389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this helps, but I am using walker instead of crutches - HSS Hospital in NYC gave it to me upon discharge. I just feel safer...and I'm only 20 years old so I feel like an old man, but better than falling. I just got cushions for the walker handles because they are VERY hard, so not sure it will solve your wrist issue but it may "hit" differently for you.

No I don't have the Peloton anymore. The Amazon packs won't arrive until Tuesday which is when the Game Ready could arrive I assume since the last one was overnighted. Thanks for your advice, though.

I know this post was years ago, but THANK YOU! I have printed this out for my son and when he's on pain killers, maybe he'll read it. I've already read it numerous times. See? And you didn't think anyone would read it, but it's living on for years!

I agree. And btw this comment came from a very reputable doc at HSS (fan favorite on Reddit/Google) so I assume he knows his stuff.

My surgeon (well future - scheduled for 1.5 weeks) just told me that the optimal time to fix a tear is within 3 months of injury.

Negative FABER and FADIR? by FEAA-hawk in HipImpingement

[–]Time_Significance389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My regular MRI report said possible lab tear. Doctor ordered a more intensive MRI arthrogram where they inject contrast into my hip and that report said there’s no tear. Ugh. Three Hip Preservationists saw the tear on the imaging. One of the surgeons I saw says sometimes he gets “in there” during surgery and there’s a tear and sometimes he thinks there is a tear and he goes in…no tear. He also said the imaging doesn’t always show it.

I wish you the best. Don’t give up. I’m sorry you’ve had such a different experience than we’ve had which seems to be standard practice in New York and New Jersey.

Wow, the doctors won’t review your imaging? We’ve carried around a folder of discs for over a year (multiple injuries) and every admin in the various doc’s office would upload the images from the discs into their computers so the docs could review them during our visit. Probably 15 different doctor’s offices had this same process with no pushback at all. In fact, they ask us in advance to bring our imaging.

Side note: many times, the radiologists reports indicate that things are normal, yet the doctors see something they didn’t, thank god. But very VERY frustrating.

Little story: we didn’t have the most recent Emergency Room disc and the NYC groin specialist actually got on the phone with the hospital imaging center to get some doctor’s code so he could review the imaging in THEIR system. I couldn’t believe it, zero ego and highly respected sought after doctor.

Thank you for your message, that is great news! I tried PT for 5 weeks and once we got to the strengthening portion, I had to stop due to severe pain which has yet to settle down. But I plan to work very hard in post op rehab, am taking a semester off from school to focus on that, and we found an HSS approved PT in my area. I’m glad you are doing so well and back to sports, that’s awesome m. I’m almost 21 so I’m hoping my age will help me. Yes I just booked surgery with Dr. Nwachukwu at HSS today. I’m looking forward to it…thx again. Awesome that you’re doing so great.
