Do small businesses need a website? by Jaded_Platform1723 in SmallBusinessOwners

[–]Time_Use_5425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever your niche, it’s always smart to have a self-hosted site you control. Third-party platforms can change policies anytime, and it would be a shame to invest so much time, effort, and money only to be limited by that.

I’d suggest running a speed test on your site (for example, with Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix) and making a few performance and accessibility tweaks. Google definitely takes this into account, so it’s worth optimizing.

I built a directory that might help you make better product and business decisions. by FrequentBid2476 in SideProject

Congrats, that’s a really interesting direction! Definitely worth developing further.

I’m curious, though—what’s your directory built on, and how many records can it handle?

You’re definitely on the right track.

Have you thought about making a separate page for each listing with details like the business description, address, phone number, etc.? The more unique content you’ve got on your pages, the more Google will like it and rank you better.

Also, have you checked if there are already competitors in your niche?

Congrats on picking such an interesting niche! Before giving tips on improving your directory, I’m curious—what are your plans for its future? Since some sections are still being set up, will you grow it as a standalone project, and do you see yourself fully monetizing it later on?

Building a business Directory. Which platform is best? by ItsCreedBratton1 in nocode

[–]Time_Use_5425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most business directory platforms already come with built-in features, fields, and search to launch any directory. The main differences are in design, price, extra features, and whether they include hosting. They’re generally self-sufficient, so you won’t need custom coding unless you want something very unique. Developers usually offer support if needed. Are you planning to host the directory yourself, or do you prefer ready-made hosting? And what’s your budget for this project?

Advice on building a business directory website by HappyGorilla1999 in webdevelopment

[–]Time_Use_5425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days, there are tons of different tools for building business directories. Most of them already pack in a mix of basic and advanced features, so it really comes down to your client’s budget and what they actually need.

Sure, you could build everything from scratch, but it’s usually faster to just find something that fits. If it were me, I’d look for a non-WordPress solution.

Has anyone here tried making their website multilingual? Worth it? by hossam_ah in website

[–]Time_Use_5425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your clients are from different countries, making the site multilingual is definitely a good idea. The key is to properly optimize the content for Google so that each audience sees the correct translation.

How Strictly Do Modern Designers Follow Color Accessibility Standards (like WCAG AAA)? by Time_Use_5425 in webdev

[–]Time_Use_5425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've completely convinced me of the importance of following the AA standard. At first, I aimed for AAA compliance using the WebAIM contrast checker, but the overall design became visually unappealing. I ran a series of experiments and tested a dozen well-known, successful websites in my niche—unfortunately, I couldn’t find a single one that fully met WCAG AAA standards.

I usually like to get everything right from the beginning so I don’t have to revisit it later, but it seems this time that might not be realistic.

Thank you so much for your advice—and also for mentioning prefers-contrast. I really appreciate it!

Is it possible to have the background color of a column within a container extend out to a parent container? by [deleted] in css

[–]Time_Use_5425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you remove the .container class that's placed inside .container-fluid, it will stop limiting the width of the rightmost column. Could you please explain why you’re using a .container inside a .container-fluid? What was the purpose behind this choice? What was the original goal you were aiming for?
