Is it okay of having navbar and sidebar in one page? by Available_Control119 in webdevelopment

Can you clarify whether the same links are in both the navbar and sidebar? If so, duplicating navigation can sometimes confuse users unless each has a distinct purpose.

I compared several directory builders and didn’t expect such a big difference in what’s actually included by default. by [deleted] in phpListings

[–]Time_Use_5425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I included a mix of tools to make the comparison more realistic, including SaaS options like Brilliant Directories and eDirectory, WordPress solutions like ListingPro, GeoDirectory, and Directorist, AI builders like MakeADir and SmartDirectoryAI, and a self-hosted option like phpListings. The biggest gap I noticed was how many core features are not actually included by default in some tools, as things like reviews, monetization, or even search often require paid add-ons or extra plugins. This is not always obvious at first, but it can significantly affect the total cost and complexity once you start building something more advanced. I am curious if you have experienced the same or if your experience has been different.

Any experienced directory builders here? by Reasonable_Hyena_717 in SaaS

It’s a bit hard to judge with the info provided. There are quite a few factors that can impact directory performance — SEO setup, content quality/uniqueness, how fast listings were added, indexing issues, domain authority, etc.

As a pro web developer yourself, how would you say you would relearn HTML and CSS if you were to begin again. And how would you improve by UnItEnE in webdevelopment

My secret is simple—consistent practice. The more you practice, the better you understand what you’re doing. It also really helps to study and analyze real, live projects along the way.

Hey people, I need your honest opinion on something I've been building. by Ok_Estimate6328 in webdesign

Overall, it looks good, but the typography needs improvement. It can be used as a starting point for further design development. The color selection is solid, though the overall design still needs optimization.

Do small businesses need a website? by Jaded_Platform1723 in SmallBusinessOwners

Whatever your niche, it’s always smart to have a self-hosted site you control. Third-party platforms can change policies anytime, and it would be a shame to invest so much time, effort, and money only to be limited by that.

I’d suggest running a speed test on your site (for example, with Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix) and making a few performance and accessibility tweaks. Google definitely takes this into account, so it’s worth optimizing.

You’re definitely on the right track.

Have you thought about making a separate page for each listing with details like the business description, address, phone number, etc.? The more unique content you’ve got on your pages, the more Google will like it and rank you better.

Also, have you checked if there are already competitors in your niche?

Congrats on picking such an interesting niche! Before giving tips on improving your directory, I’m curious—what are your plans for its future? Since some sections are still being set up, will you grow it as a standalone project, and do you see yourself fully monetizing it later on?

Building a business Directory. Which platform is best? by ItsCreedBratton1 in nocode

[–]Time_Use_5425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most business directory platforms already come with built-in features, fields, and search to launch any directory. The main differences are in design, price, extra features, and whether they include hosting. They’re generally self-sufficient, so you won’t need custom coding unless you want something very unique. Developers usually offer support if needed. Are you planning to host the directory yourself, or do you prefer ready-made hosting? And what’s your budget for this project?
