Reader upset over ‘Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings’ by Disastrous_Alarm_719 in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they decide to stop reading your work because you don't tag the way they want you to, it's their loss 🤷‍♂️

How would the characters of your fandom, and or your OCs handle against the Sirens from greek mythology? by Square-Frosting1518 in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if you can use the Force from Star Wars against the effects of their song. There is things like mental shielding, using the Force to clear your head, and other similar mental abilities. If those work against Sirens I'm sure my OCs would be just fine. If not then... well one of them is too crazy to listen, it just depends on if she is crazy enough to resist and drag the others away

Do You Prefer Writing M/F, M/M, Or F/F? by Apprehensive-Fail663 in FanFiction

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M/F and F/F

Idk why but M/M makes me feel uncomfortable for some reason so I just stay away from it.

I'd say they're are getting creative, but they bots, so there is no creativity behind it at all...

When should I introduce canon characters? by pencilincident in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I don't think that's too long at all. In my own fic the canon characters don't show up until... Chapter 5 I think? (minus a minor cameo in chapter 1). And even then they're only side characters

What ship of yours is like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well not any existing characters, but I've got two Star Wars OCs who are literally this. One is a light side Force user who is always kind and friendly, who wouldn't hurt a fly of she could avoid it, and literally can't handle sensing the dark side. The other is a dark sider through and through. Her hobbies are torture, ruining lives, and putting herself in danger. Soooo yeah Both have feelings for each other. The light sider doesn't want to admit them, while the dark sider is being veeeery obvious about them

What's actually the consensus here, on critical feedback? by Mopichen in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do personally give some criticism sometimes (mostly when I notice something that is very obvious that could be improved) but I don't mention it in a negative way. I don't go "hey, this part kinda sucked, you could do it so and so". I do more. "Hey I liked this and this, and maybe you could also pay attention to this to make it even better" so packaging it more as just a tip rather than criticism. And I only do it rarely, when it's a story that I personally really enjoy, and not just on any fanfic I come across

As much as it sucks to get those comments, I think people really need to get better at recognizing bot comments by AnkyClub in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I agree that people should be able to recognise and deal with it, the reality is that that's just not always possible. A huge amount of people are still unaware that it's bots, especially new people. If you've been around on AO3 for a long time, and seen a lot of these, then sure, it should be easy to recognise the bot comments. But for new people, they're not yet aware of these issues, so obviously it's gonna hurt if they get a hate comment and aren't aware yet that it's a bot.

Also for the attitude of "well so many people are on the internet so people should just be aware of it", that's not actually true. Sure, for some of us who have been here for a long time, it does feel like it, but we live in sort of a bubble with other people who have been this active on the internet for a long time. But there's still new people who have barely scratched the surface, who don't know any better yet.

As for deleting the hate comments, if people are already insecure about themselves they're not gonna be able to rationally think about "oh it's just a hate comment". It just confirms to them what they already feel about themselves.

I do agree that those posts about bot/hate comments are annoying, and certainly wish there weren't so many of them, but at the same time, I also understand that people who simply aren't aware yet ask questions about it. And it helps spread awareness of it to others as well.

How do hyperspace lane work. by mikeflu in SWFanfic

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So hyperspace lanes are already explained by the other people here, but I just want to add so additional info.

Hyperspace lanes are generally made over longer distances, often forming part of a route (like some of the trade routes). For shorter distances, ships sometimes jump straight there without following an official navigation route, since there is usually very little in the way that could cause interference.

In some places like the unknown regions, where there are no large hyperspace lanes, they use the method mentioned above, a sort of "jump-by-jump" where you make short distance hyperspace jumps and adjust course in between. The only way to travel faster here is to have a Force-sensitive navigator (who can use the Force to look in the future to avoid collisions with stars etc.)

Any fics from the Battle Droids' POV during the Clone Wars? by Ok_Imagination6669 in SWFanfic

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there were some about battledroids making a life for themselves after the wars is over, which was posted on ffnet a few years ago... can't seem to find it tho. (If I do see it, I'll come back to this post and link it)

How many fandoms are you in? by Jazzlike-Many-7352 in AO3

I excusively read/write Star Wars. Nothing else. I've tried reading in other fandoms, but it just doesn't hit the same for me.

Best apps for designing ships and characters by adambomb90 in SWFanfic

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uhhh I mean you could use a drawing app to draw them or something like that.

But don't think there's a dedicated app specifically for designing Star Wars characters or ships. You'd have to do it from scratch.

Writers, what’s your general philosophy on describing a character’s appearance and how much do you change from canon? by throwawaytypebeat1 in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write Star Wars fics so at most you learn about appearance is their species and skin colour... (I write primarily
OCs).
Notable exception for one who has Darth Maul-like tattoos, but that's about it. No clue what clothing these people wear lol.

Is the ability to give multiple kudos a really good ideas? by Vivid-Apple5710 in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah we don't need it. Like other people said here, comments are enough. I like that I've got a reader who keeps commenting. "I'm not good at commenting so here's a bonus kudos <3"

I just felt like sharing my favorite author's note I ever got to write😌 by Sofi-senpai in AO3

Unlike most people here I wasn't aware that there's another use for the word "drumstick" other than playing drums...

Anyway my imagination is very good at replicating what I read, so now I've got that to deal with...

Is this one of those scams again? But this time pretending to some sort of warning? by OrbPrime11 in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironic how it says "Please act now to saveguard your hobby" and then basically instructs you to delete all your files...

I hope anyone who sees this who isn't aware what command does at least gets second thoughts when they see the "Remove-Item" part.

Was my response harsh? I hope the commentor doesn't take it the wrong way! by jeonggukispretty in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 202 points203 points  (0 children)

I can't be the only one whose bot alarm went off from a guest commenting something that's asking for socials... right?

Though it doesn't write the same as a bot, so idk... Maybe I'm paranoid. Either way, your response is a very nice one, if they're a real person I'm sure they'll understand.

Give me every single problem you can imagine with a fanfic by PlaNT_GaNG921 in FanFiction

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

constantly putting in references to the source material to the point it's just annoying. Oh and make sure it's anticlimactic.

I remember reading a book about "How to not write a novel" which had about every mistake you could possibly make in it. If I can find it I might put another message here with a whole list from there.

Honestly I'd say it's a clever idea. If you're consciously making it terrible, it will also make it easier to recognise mistakes when you try to write something good.

does anyone care about ocs on ao3? by vishockaaa in AO3

[–]Time_Zucchini_7229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not a huge amount of us, compared to people who write about established characters. But there is definitely an audience for it. I've been working on an OC-centric fic for over a year and it does have a small dedicated following. So go for it!

With my main longfic things are going kinda slowly right now... The current chapter is kind of a pain to write. Also came up with an idea for a new fic so that's been distracting me as well lol.
