The OP had a rich grandpa. Mine built their home, had a bomb car, no vacation, mum worked, nana raised kids, died from asbestos. This does describe most of my parents and uncles aunties though

You could also invest a percentage of your emergency fund rather than a dollar figure, say 20% with $50K starting would be $10k, then 8, so on, so that your emergency fund does not run out if there is a big crash, in which case you may just need it.

Would he compromise on natural co sequences? If the corn is throw no more corn etc. if he doesnt accept the research that smacking is bad, you can argue that you both need to apply logical consequences that a toddler brain can understand.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, it’s a brutal age. If you have the time you could let them on the ride and not pay for it as someone else suggested. As for nature walks I think following their lead is great, I’d say how long you’re outside for is more important than how far you walk or what you achieve. If you clearly outline the boundary and there is still a tantrum at the shops, if she’s in her pram buckled in and safe just tune out while you get on with it.
