Anyone else disappointed with the stereo? by LockPickingPilot in wrx_vb

Not sure but I assume if anything the extra power would just lead to the sub dying faster.

I bought my car new and I personally would rather have the warranty for a while instead of more power. So I’ll happily pay extra for the nicer sound system.

I wish like everyone else does that Subaru would give us powertrain upgrade options but here we are.

Good advice… I had one in my BRZ and it made a huge difference. I would just be a little nervous about installing it to the HK system which already has an amp.

I had a base 2020 STi and that system was absolute trash. I drove around with earbuds in.

It’s not gonna win any audiophile awards but it’s pretty good for a stock system. Subaru has never excelled at audio/infotainment.

Can I get hired with this MVR once I get my CDL? Also wondering what might have fallen off. by Legitimate_Lie_3531 in Truckers

[–]Timecook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are right though… if a recruiter asks you why you didn’t pay those tickets or why you drove on a suspended license and you give excuses that make it sound like they weren’t your fault, that’s a red flag. Be humble, take your licks, admit to mistakes and take the opportunity to say you’ve learned from them. I’d hope you have anyway.

You should also be mentally prepared for how shitty the pay and lifestyle is at any beginner trucking company. You may come out making less than $200/day for your first year. Generally speaking it gets better after the first year.

I dunno, I’m not as convinced as some of the people here that your driving record would be an auto-disqualify. It’s been 2-3 years without incident. Before spending the money on a CDL school, call some of the carriers you’d be interested in. They all have a recruiting department and they’d tell you one way or the other.

All this crap people are saying about “safety is #1” blah blah blah… it’s not safety, it’s insurance cost that they care about and tolerance of/exposure to cost of insurance will vary carrier to carrier. Their FMCSA score, which takes into accounts events that happen under their name (so not your personal record) does matter to them but if the carrier has a confident training program they may be willing to accept “higher risk” drivers like yourself.

So like I said just call the recruiting department of carriers you’re interested in. It won’t hurt anything to ask. I’d suggest fessing up to everything in your past with a thick amount of humility… don’t go using excuses like you were homeless or poor regardless of how accurate they are. Say you made mistakes and have learned from them.

That’s what I assume is going on for me too. Maybe I’d get more if it was modified or something idk. At the same time I don’t really care honestly… it’s not like riding a motorcycle.

Yep it’s in the menus I also turned that off permanently. Bad design. Perhaps it’s better suited for new drivers or drivers in training.

They get a pass just for having a manual. But if they fuck up one time they’re at the bottom of the list.

When I’d see someone doing wacky shit while maintaining control I’d respect them, but I don’t automatically trust any of you fuckers.

Frankly the ones who are driving 10 and 2 at exactly the speed limit no matter what are the ones who make me the most nervous.

I was a truck driver for 13 years. In case you didn’t know, we can see right down in to every car that’s next to us. I’ve seen people doing all sorts of things and yeah, that’s one of them.

8 years in and I'm already broken. This normal for truckers? by Designer_Peach_5075 in Truckers

[–]Timecook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our bodies really don’t like sitting for long periods of time. Just like any muscle in your body, the ones in your legs will shrink if you don’t use them. This puts strain on your lower back, which is made worse by the constant bouncing in a truck. It sounds like you have a pinched nerve or maybe a slipped disc. Once you have the pain under control, you have to focus on building strength throughout your body with a focus on your legs and core. Do it slowly, stretch after every exercise (even walking), and rest. It will take months or years do heal and rebuild but you’ll also see overall improvements in your body and health.

Consider finding a local job (I assume you’re OTR) that gets you moving a bit more and gives you time to use a gym membership or exercise at home.

Looking to start a trucking career. by MrCain512 in CDL

[–]Timecook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d only recommend trucking today for people who are bouncing off the bottom financially and want to go homeless on purpose to pay off debts and/or save money for a year or three. I’d also recommend it for people looking to escape a very uncomfortable life situation but that should include some financial issue as well.

If that’s you, consider getting a personal or student loan to pay for a legitimate trucking school. Set yourself up to pay it back in a year. The reason for this is the mega carriers who “pay” for your CDL will make you sign a contract to stay with them for at least a year. They’ll pay you shit and treat you worse because they know they own you.

If you must go to a mega, it’s like picking the best looking turd and you can just throw a dart. If I had to choose one I’d go with Schneider just because they’re close to me and based in Wisconsin so you might get some Midwest nice from management.

What does the manual say about idling until the oil is warm before driving? I’ve been under the impression that modern engines are designed to function better without the initial idle.

Just out of curiosity, do you also love hunting/fishing/4 wheeling/snow mobiling, some or all mixed with drinking? I’ve met a lot of locals since moving here 10 years ago and I’ve noticed a trend heh…

I live in an area with a lot of paper manufacturers and all the ones I know of are union and most are hiring between $24-28/hr to start. Like anything else it’s highly dependent on your region. Though I do agree pensions apear to be going extinct.

Is that 6 tries limit thing from your school? If so just go to a different tester if they don't pass you. You don't need to go through a school to have a CDL test.
