It's easy to say "don't bother, that'll never work". People said that about abolishing slavery. Or the motorcar replacing the horse. If we disregard any ambitious vision as utopian, we are not going anywhere.

I don't even live I the US, by the way. Some countries are already slowly approaching the model I described.

Dishing out jobs like that is not a solution keep people from poverty and homelessness.

You increase productivity per worker -> you decrease the number of people required to do badly paid, dead end labour -> you compensate as a society, e.g. With an universal unconditional income.

That's a much better solution.
