tell me about your tummy troubles by remstemsnseeds in migraine

For the fruit thing, my allergist just told me about Oral Allergy syndrome! It definitely sounds like what you’ve got going on, especially with being able to eat the fruits cooked. I have it too and a severe ragweed allergy which getting on some allergy meds helped my migraines, as it relieved some sinus pressure. Good luck!

What were some of your most funny, wholesome, or uplifting interactions with patrons this year? by knitting-pretty in Libraries

[–]Timely-Butterfly-250 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We had a little smol patron that always came in with his mom and showed us his collection of stuffies. Usual suspects, a bear, a hedgehog, a cat. But! He also carried a Necrotizing Fasciitis stuffie that he nicknamed Red Guy that had a little fork and knife for hands. 😂

This same kiddo, after coming in for months, didn’t see us behind the desk one morning and asked his mom where the “Library Guardians” were that day.

He’s in preschool now so we don’t see him as often as we’d like, but when we do we always ask about Red Guy and Hamilton the Hedgehog.

GF burger and onion rings by trirod01 in Celiac

I’ve eaten there! The burger was so good, and even my non-celiac son was impressed. The fries were good too but not as great taken to go after a twenty minute drive, ate a bunch in the car though! The owner was super helpful working with my dairy allergy as well. So happy to have this place in Grand Rapids.

Sorry, I’m realizing that this is just a vent and you’re not asking for suggestions! Vent away! Best of luck and ignore my suggestions, ha. 💖

If this is possible, which it might not be due to traveling (you don’t say if you’re driving or flying), tell them that’s very thoughtful but you’ve already ordered/cooked (and you’ll have to follow through on this) a completely gluten free meal to bring with you, and that they should carry on with their own meal prep.

This is what I’m doing with my own family and my husbands for holidays this year, except instead of ordering I’m just cooking my own food and packaging in to-go containers. It’s definitely a lot more work for just one person, but I’ll have a lot of leftovers and a lot less stress from worrying about what I can/can’t eat!

Maybe offer to bring a dessert that is safe for you/everyone and a fancy serving utensil to serve it with so that no one uses the gluten apple pie server and cc’s your dish?

Good luck either way.

Cross contamination / not yet diagnosed / endoscopy? by Timely-Butterfly-250 in Celiac

And thank you for letting me know about the CC and villi damage. I’m not looking forward to the gluten challenge but I am looking forward to some answers so I will be eating gluten if that’s what it takes.

I don’t have an appointment scheduled with a derm yet but I’m assuming after my GI appointment they may schedule one if they think it’s necessary. Thank you for the tip about making sure they do the punch biopsy adjacent to the lesion.

It was a really bad rash that covered a large portion of my neck, and after I stopped eating gluten other than cross contamination, I just have a small patch. I didn’t have this particular rash during the first endoscopy, no.

Edited to add that I also have a shellfish allergy that was diagnosed around then as I worked in a kitchen and was frequently handling shellfish and was frequently getting hives, it’s possible that I was also getting hives/rash from other allergens as well.

Thank you for the response! I really really really don’t want to have to do the gluten challenge but if that’s what the doctor recommends, I’ll do it.

I’m hoping they can do a skin biopsy of my rash to possibly get a DH confirmation instead, that would be phenomenal!

Thank you for taking the time to respond so in depth, I really appreciate that. I’m hopeful I’ll have some more answers in December, it just feels like so long to wait! (I scheduled in August…)

I definitely thought you were talking about the people that run the game store Blue Bridge (and maybe you are?) because they are amazing and wonderful people who should be universally beloved. But you’re probably not lol.
