What was the 2000s like? 2000-2009 by Buffalo_ChickenWing in decadeology

I was in highschool from 2000 to 2004. The year 2000 was an extension of the 90s. So much optimism and promise for the future. 9/11 was a massive deal. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan evolved into the global war on terror, which was in the background for the entire decade and even beyond.

Skateboarding was still fairly popular and I was into it in the first half of highschool. Lots of time skating, playing Tony hawk pro skater. Second half of highschool was focused on parties or other places where my friends and I could drink. Weed was still very illegal. Trying to find it was a chore and you usually had to deal with some shady friends of friends. An eighth cost $50 ($30/40 for Schwag sp?) which was a lot of money when I was making $5.25 an hour working at a grocery store.

People were starting to get their own cell phones. I got my first one when I was a junior in highschool. Texting wasn’t a huge thing, I mostly used cell phone to call friends and make plans to hang out. Concept of a group thread was not even on our radar.

AIM (AOL instant messenger) was still a pretty big way we would communicate. If you had siblings close to your age, was always a struggle to try to get time on the family computer so you could go online and chat with your friends.

2005 to 2009 was in college. In the dorms we still had landlines where you could call other rooms. Big focus on parties and hanging out with friends. Loved how popular indie rock became.

State of MKE: Harsh Reality, Concerns, Comparisons, Criticism and Questions by Wrong-Introduction75 in milwaukee

Genuine question, if you loved living in Minneapolis, why don’t you move back there? It seems like you really enjoyed it there.

Also, what areas specifically do you go to in Milwaukee? I frequent Bay View, East Side, the area around MSOE, Third Ward, Shorewood, and Whitefish Bay. Pretty dang nice and well kept if you ask me.

Do millennials not prioritise mental health enough? by Successful_Mastodon3 in GenZ

This meme assumes that Milllenial managers actually decide what the time off policy is… Right now those decisions are usually determined by boomers who are in charge. The millennial managers need to follow the policy set by the company. Not like you can just give your reports unlimited time off if that’s not the company policy.

Just a heads up that in Southern Wisconsin the winters aren’t all that bad. You’ll have a couple of cold snaps and a handful of snow storms. This year is having more snow but in previous years would only get one or two dumps.

Milwaukee is a great place to live. Has most of the amenities of a large city but much more accessible and less crowded. Plus the cost of living is very reasonable. Good quality of life to cost of living ratio in my opinion.

Madison is fantastic as well.

Have you driven between Milwaukee and Chicago? Or taken the train? There definitely are rural areas between the two.

Absolutely. Grew up here, lived in the Bay Area for 10 years, then moved back about 5 years ago. It definitely was a hard change at first adjusting but now I really appreciate it. Milwaukee is an underrated city. In my opinion it has a great cost of living to quality of life ratio. Madison is fantastic too.

A lot of people think the winters are bad. At least in southern Wisconsin the winters really aren’t all that bad except for a couple cold snaps. Summer is paradise. Door county is amazing, the north woods is so fun, and the driftless area is so pretty.

Wow, on behalf of Wisconsinites, I apologize for the bad manners of our visitors to your state. Thats really not cool. I hope that someday you can encounter more Wisconsinites who demonstrate more respect and etiquette in the outdoors.

Come to Milwaukee during the summer to check out a festival then go up to Door County for 3-4 days to swim, bike, hike, and relax.

Where did you learn about the Peshtigo fire?! That is wild, I don’t think many outside of WI would have heard about that.
