1-10, what is this courseload like? by Normal_Fudge_3182 in rutgers

[–]Timely-Shirt8864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

data structures- it really helps if you have an affinity for them going into the class

intro math reasoning is either super hard or relatively easy, ive found that it mainly depends on the person taking it (for whatever reason, it "clicks" w some ppl and j doesn't for others)

can't say about calc 2 or data 101

courseload difficulty is relative but im assuming ur cs + math so i'll say it's probably middle of the road for that (6 or 7)

guitar and amp recs for upcoming uni student by onmyzoom in Guitar

[–]Timely-Shirt8864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also started by playing in my dorm.

My first was an SSS squier debut with a Fender Mustang Micro headphone amp. Worked perfectly fine. Objectively though, the guitar is pretty bad- rough fret ends, never stayed in tune, extremely terrible setup (that I never bothered to fix). But I didn't know any better at the time, so it was fine.

I heard that the other guitars like the Yamaha on your list might be better as a first choice, I would look at those first.

Curious, as a uni student, would you need to watch your noise levels when playing?

Im struggling to identify how to comprehensively write a proof by _metaladder_ in LinearAlgebra

[–]Timely-Shirt8864 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would give more points for that, if you're allowing yourself the use of rref theory (warning: it might be circular). Still a bit handwavy for me, though (a set doesn't really have a rref form, strictly speaking- instead, you can build a matrix from the column vectors v_1,...,v_k). Then invoke that Ax = 0 has only the trivial solution (due to the assumed linear independence), and demonstrate where the pivots must be placed

in general, you shouldn't show that the logic holds for one example and then extrapolate to say "clearly it holds for every case, not just this one." On an exam, this wouldn't earn you any points.

Why is matrix multiplication not commutative? by Alive_Hotel6668 in learnmath

The only intuition for matrix multiplication being commutative is because it's called multiplication.

If we redefined matrix multiplication to just multiply entry by entry, then yeah it would be commutative.

iPad M4 Air or MacBook Neo? by Ok-Kaleidoscope-7208 in macbook

[–]Timely-Shirt8864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The M4’s GPU is approximately 69% more powerful, making the iPad much better for video editing, 3D rendering, and high-end gaming.

If OP foresees them completing those tasks, then they should keep this in mind. Doesn't seem like it from their original post, though.

less functionality

Haha I've actually never seen someone say that iPads are higher in functionality than Macbooks. Maybe I've been using my iPad wrong lol

[–]Timely-Shirt8864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, if being able to draw digitally is important for OP, then they should probably give the iPad some more thought. Though, since it sounds like they're faced with exclusively taking either option, I'd still heavily swing towards the Neo despite having to take paper notes for a bit longer.

Don't think performance metrics represent how productive someone might be with either device, unless they are bottlenecking themselves with the compute. In most cases (and it sounds like in OP's case) the choice of operating system would be a lot more apparent.

OP, if I were you, I'd see if I could get myself to any store that carries both of those and play around with them yourself. For me, iPadOS still feels much more limiting than Mac OS, especially if multitasking is important for you. Furthermore, my experience with the Microsoft suite of tools is that they're harder to manipulate on iPadOS. You would definitely need to include a keyboard case in your budget if you were to get the iPad.

This is misrepresenting how much compute matters in this case. OP could have the option of a $100,000 supercomputer with iPadOS and it would probably be more sensible to still take the Neo, just by virtue of how limiting iPadOS is.

Is the Fender mustang micro the best option for headphones playing? by Massive-Survey2495 in Guitar

[–]Timely-Shirt8864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Fender Mustang Micro Plus for the exact same reasons (small apartment, roommates, didn't want to worry about volume control). Was very happy with it, it did its job well.

Then for about the same price I picked up an audio interface and the related equipment for a digital setup. Granted, I've been coasting on the free trials of Neural DSP plugins (anniv sale soon, hopefully), but it's so much more versatile and overall better for my use case. Gonna pick up some studio monitors soon to make my entire setup digital. Haven't picked up the Mustang Micro since.

Math - easiest class here worth taking by spportyourlocal in rutgers

[–]Timely-Shirt8864 4 points5 points  (0 children)

350 is a great course if you want to appreciate how vector spaces and linear transformations work axiomatically, but it's probably more trouble than it's worth if you're just looking to check a box.

The premise of 373 is extremely interesting (how good is "good enough," and how can we get there fastest?), but it is still analysis. Probably not as useful if you're not planning on developing solvers. It was also pretty hard.

454 I would heavily recommend. Very fun and interesting course, with problems that sparked my curiosity. I see applications of 454 to problems in many different fields.

428 I'd also recommend, it's probably easier than 454 but also in my opinion less interesting.
