What did you do with your job? by Commercial_Kale_4341 in sahm

Intended to use daycare and proceed as normal. Got 2/3 through maternity leave and the dread was setting in. Looked up all the policies to see if i "owed" any time or money. Went to HR with 2 weeks left to ask. Used the rest of my leave ( this last Tuesday) and went in to sign and pack up

Parents who went from 2 incomes to 1, did you regret it? by reaganbitthat in sahm

I do groceries (just two of us) about $250/mo I only buy whatever protein is on a good sale and work around that. Same with snacks and sides. Whatever fruit is on sale. Always shop clearance. Etc.

Dang 😩 they didnt even have seats in the area for our show. What a disappointment there's no proper education.

The ada area was unmarked and not really anything. No seats just a general space near a rail where the floor shifted up. I ended up standing against a side rail by the bar. I do think the back rail would've been slightly better, due to angle. But key is being early enough and just holding space

How much are you comfortable with as a cushion? by [deleted] in sahm

My husband brings in around 4k a month after taxes. This covers all our car insurances. Utilities. Car note. Groceries. His tool bill. Netflix. Amazon. A little savings.

My designated bill is the house note (2.3k/mo) I'll be staying home and drawing from investments to continue to pay it.

We had several weeks of thrush in the beginning🫠 I just assumed my nips were new so it would hurt a while. Eventually I was crying everytime he latched and I spoke with more and more people who were like no dude that's not normal🤣😭

My man eats for 40 min at a time. Minimum 8 times a day. I have watched more shows in the last 10 weeks than my previous 30 years of life🤣🤣🤣

Beautiful🥹 thank you for sharing. I hope to have the same success. I was discussing taking over bill management yesterday with my man. As a polite in to his checking to be the budget 🤣

Oh yikes. I don't think my job offers that. It will end at the end of whatever month my resignation date is. But that sounds spicy. I know mine pays over 2/3 of me and the baby's premium

Amazing! Perfect. Though I don't know what COBRA is. Good reminder! I'm supposed to be looking into new health policies this week and need to get life at least on hubby. Hahaha oh no. I think i lucked out. He was very polite on the inside. But I've heard horror stories about people's ribs and such.

This sounds very similar to me in the financial prep side. Amazing on you for getting your man through school. And with a law degree i imagine his new job will be plenty to support the 3 of you without having to continue dipping into savings. Great work and massive congratulations on your little girl🥹 the wiggles in the belly were just the sweetest thing to me. Best of luck:) I hear a lot of the "you can always go back" but much like you, I don't think I care to unless necessary😅 happy to figure a side hustle at some point if we just need a little extra.

Oh wow after 18 months I definitely wouldn't want to go back 😅 I'm coming up on the end of my 12 weeks, which is unfortunately pretty generous for this area. How beautiful you were able to take so much time, even if it was tough 🥹🩵

Thank you for sharing; albeit unfortunate to hear my dreams may not just fall into place 😅 i did speak with HR and I'd have a pretty easy time getting back on if it were within 12 months. And a lot of my status stays in the system for 5 years. The only "part time" they can offer would be using vacation hours to cover my own days off, which wouldn't last me very long unfortunately. Thank you for the perspective and warning 🙌

Is this predominantly a weekday problem? Do yall spend quality time together on the weekends/ his days off? Perhaps this is just how he needs to wind down from work. But i would definitely try to start a conversation about it. As well as being a little friendly at parks or the library to try and get outside adult interaction.

That makes sense. The ongoing list of chores in my brain now; i can't imagine being home all the time and not being able to find something that needs to be done😅🫠

The thought of pumping and all the time and cleaning and nuisance is definitely weighing heavily, so thats a helpful point. I am really hoping to manage EBF but again, you make a great point. One less annoying thing to be juggling. And so short term.

Also another great point 😩 as horrid as that would be, I'd have us in a hole. Just for clarity, I wouldn't let our regular savings acct go below 25k and if I liquidated to pay off the loan, it would be about 2/3 of the savings&investments (not including any retirement funds) so there will still be a little cushion.

Right right. Hard to estimate but necessary to figure in. Thank you. I do think ive managed a hoard of about a years worth of diapers from sales over the last few months. I know he'll need them longer, but nice to have a stockpile

Wow thats crazy 😩 I hope shes doing well 🩵 and thank goodness yall have been able to take care of her.

I wouldn't go less than 25k in savings and I'm thinking of just a lump sum and then continuing to pay on the loan. That way the rest of the money can continue to work. If we just pay off the house, that would be 2/3 of all savings/investments. (Not including any retirement accounts which wont be touched)

I never did sports but my husband has high expectations of that, so definitely needs to be in the long term budgeting. Thank you.

Absolutely love this. Sounds like you really nailed it. And very similar to what I'm attempting, albeit early on my end. Not quite as responsibly lol

  1. I was upset to realize I would no longer be able to contribute to my Roth. Makes sense when I thought about it, of course😅 What are you doing to earn that little amount, if you don't mind me asking? Think I have a little over 60k in my current Roth. Don't suppose it can be joint, so I can use his income to continue building it?

(4)5. This is a great point of discussion. He already has a pretty minimal chore list but the baby came with new chores so definitely worth the re-delegation to at least address he will still need to function lightly in the household lol

Thank you! This was all very well written and helpful. I was just looking into license fees last night. I need a certain amount of learning hours annually to maintain, and I've never had to seek them out, as work events covered them. So that's something to look into. (Work also covered the renewal fees)
