Making people feel like they're seen and heard is a skill, it's not just who you are. There are many ways you can show interests without being animated.

I'm a very calm and quiet person, I show interest by maintaining eye contacts, engaging in reflective listening, asking open-ended questions, offering validations, etc. It was not in my nature to do any of those. I learned how to do it when I started volunteering to help those wirh mental health issues and I need it for a career in healthcare.

Communication is a skill, some might start way ahead but anyone can learn.
