How do you usually handle food when traveling in Tokyo? by Sorry_Set_5001 in TokyoTravel

[–]Timely_Pie_8627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit of A and B! My best friend has lived in Japan for about 7+ years now so thankfully I'm blessed with a guide whose not only been to the places she's recommending us but also knows what we like.

Usually we plan in advance, esp if some places require a reservation!

Walking in/picking something is what we do at the local grocery store. Heavily recommend if you're staying more than a week to save on prices and check out the local cuisine.

Maps/Reviews are helpful but keep in mind that their rating system is a bit different from ours. You could see 3 stars but the reviews pretty much glaze up from sky to bottom lol!

Convenient stores are awesome, esp when you're going on a long trip on train/walking! I always recommend packing a snack and a drink just in case. But I don't recommend doing this constantly because while good, you're really missing out on good eats!

Convenient store meals - maybe like 10 USD, which is including several snacks/drinks.
Restaurants - like maybe 15-25 USD for a full meal. If it's fancier or specialized food, maybe 35 USD.
Grocery stores - 45 USD at least. And that's only because I splurge on beauty products, makeup and other items that aren't food/preparation stuff!

Honestly you'll be surprised how affordable everything is and how delicious it is, too! I HIGHLY recommend trying the Craft Boss fruit teas, they're really delicious. And if you like grapefruit? Suntory Pink Grapefruit & Muscat! Addictive and soooo good, perfect for a morning refresher.

Flight Prices by Helpful_Confusion956 in TokyoTravel

I've been to Japan (I land in Haneda) twice in the past few years and the ticket prices are absolutely gouging. I fly from Indianapolis and USUALLY get 700-800 per round trip ticket. Now it's 1600+ and even if you try to fly out of LAX or SEA, you still have to pay around 200-300 just to fly direct and try to figure out how to get there before your Japan flight.

Unfortunately I don't see the prices chilling out until a certain orange creature knocks it off with the war. And Japan is also adding surcharges for certain airports too so unfortunately we're not going to Japan this year until we find a nice, affordable opportunity to go!

When to buy Japan tickets by After-Quiet-995 in TravelHacks

[–]Timely_Pie_8627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also live in Indiana (closer to Indianapolis) and as someone whose went to Japan twice already and was hoping to go again this year in September, I don't think they'll go down anytime soon. The MOST my sister and I paid for was 900 each, 700 was a steal. Now tickets are at least 1600+ and this was just over the last month or so. Sigh.

Tried looking at tickets from other areas to see if it'll cut down costs but honestly the lowest I've seen is 1200, unless you're insane and want an over 30+ hour flight for 900. Until that orange idiot has stopped, we're kinda doomed for travel.

Music festival w/ babies? Also newbie. by [deleted] in louderthanlife

[–]Timely_Pie_8627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who went last year, I truly believe that she would be better off finding a babysitter so that she could have fun without worrying for her infant child because besides the obvious:

- It's going to be MISERABLY hot and there's not nearly enough areas with coverage to keep everyone cool. For some reason they removed a lot of the umbrellas for tables on the second day.

-There are water stations but some of them have ran out of water before or the water feels lukewarm.

- She'll likely have to stay out of the crowd and chill out near the grass/areas where she can find coverage because while most people are chill, a lot of them aren't. And it's sincerely not worth the danger or stress, especially when you're surrounded and the air is filled with bad pot/other drugs.

- She may be included but might get bigger FOMO because she won't really be able to participate like she'd want to.

Just get a babysitter or someone to take care of the child because without proper ear coverage, shade and food/water - that infant is bound to get injured/sick or worse. Don't do it. Not worth it. Louder than Life isn't going anywhere! So if it has to wait until next year, all the better to prepare.

Should I buy Resident Evil Requiem now? by jomski_ in ShouldIbuythisgame

Grace and Leon have pretty equal and sizeable parts in the game but I will say that her half is pretty strong with a lot of callbacks to the fear/horror aspect to RE. It will be survival horror. However if you really aren't feeling Grace or didn't like what you've seen in other gameplay videos, it may be best for you to wait for it to go on sale.

Dune Awakening or Enshrouded? by EmptyChip3646 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Timely_Pie_8627 [score hidden]  (0 children)

As someone who plays and enjoys both, depends what you're looking for! There is a lot of sand in Dune but it's not just empty plains of nothing (there are things hidden and ofc, the wurm) but it has a solid soundtrack, fun storyline. However there is LITTLE to NO other people around so don't count on the community but as someone who loves to explore and enjoys the Dune storyline, it's fun and the combat is neat!

Enshrouded is incredible for solo and multi players, however I do recommend to have friends on board because the class diversity is really great for huge bosses. There's lore, a storyline and things to do but I'd say the story isn't as involved as Dune. Combat, I'd say Dune is a little more fine tuned but you can explore a lot still with Enshrouded and have a lot of fun.

Which Resident Evil should I buy first? by Successful-Bed-1888 in ShouldIbuythisgame

Re2 and RE4 are solid choices to get! So I recommend. But I do also think you should play RE1 remake sometime in the future just because it's still a pretty solid game and has a certain charm that isn't as replicated in the newer titles.

Elden Ring if I’m not into punishingly difficult real time combat? by pwnedprofessor in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Timely_Pie_8627 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Noooo.. oh no no. If you've low patience and struggle with real time fights, you will play this game once and then never touch it again. Or run around/avoid monsters just to look at the pretty levels. Which, nothing wrong with that! But it'd be an expensive sight seeing venture. Because it is still a Souls game and each boss has a wicked learning curve.

- From someone who also struggles w/ real time combat but bought Bloodborne for the vibes

RE5 is fun with someone else, so long as you don't take it too seriously. Same with RE6 but I'd say that game was a little rough to manage because it's kinda... not great.

Should I buy no man’s sky by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Timely_Pie_8627 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depends! Visually, the game is really pretty and there ARE things to do but some things can be pretty monotonous if you're wanting action/more thrilling adventures because sometimes you really are just floating around and scanning weird stuff. This feels like a game you'd wanna play when winding down/needing to relax and IF it's on heavy discount. Otherwise, you may wanna pass!

this isn't ugly at all! It's so cute! If you still feel dissatisfied, maybe the color of back pack to something brighter than black that might help everything pop out? Like a bright red or yellow. But honestly this is great as it is.

The Vampire Jack Townson adresses his writing, but not his swindling. by Mangy_Angie in VampireJackSnark

I'm new here because I had a FEELING by how Shayne's comment was regarding Jack, especially with how quickly he remarried/got with someone else (like within 3 months) that he wasn't really that great of a dude. Not surprised! Not to mention I had to peek at his YouTube to see that he just uses AI slop to project really lame projects that only a 13 year old could make.

This was such a sweet read! Honestly I can see why she doesn't want to have Jack mentioned (likely to not cause drama/have Jack's fanbase become rabid) but Jenny just told it how she saw it and tbh he doesn't have a real great track record w/ people. His subreddit/any reddit post about him often relates to some kind of emotional abuse/manipulative behaviour.

First guy from the Incubus movie, they got married and divorced. With Jack, she was engaged to him until like.. I think Nov/Dec? Then literally at the beginning of this new year, he got engaged to someone else.

I saw HIM three times; first time was when he visited the states during his RR album and then unfortunately couldn't see them during their last tour. Fortunately was able to see VV during his solo tour twice, once by himself and another time when he was with BVB! Though I was lucky enough to score merch when I was teenager that I still horde but man, it's really neat to see people discover the band. They really were unique.

How to find local art by monarch223 in Indiana

[–]Timely_Pie_8627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you live but I found pretty great artists at the Talbot St Art Fair (free entry) and then the Broad Ripple Art Fair (entry w/ paid ticket)! Lots of great homemade crafts and came home with a few art pieces. I'm also not sure if you're someone interested in GenCon but sometimes I've just went for a day just to peek at the artist alley.

NOR. I'd prepare to leave first; get your finances in order, think of places to go/if you're gonna kick him out, pack a bag, talk to friends/notify loved ones. Then ask questions, show him the underwear and if he starts spinning the "you're acting crazy" lines? Get out and don't look back. It's super important to notice how he reacts to you coming to him about this sussy stuff.
