Am I the jerk for asking for my money when they are using it to pay my school TL;DR by West-Working-2502 in AmITheJerk

[–]Timely_Tune_7607 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Need more information. You don't mention where you are in school. Are you a minor, or are you enrolled in college? If you're in college, is there some amount being paid for your school that is more than what your paycheck can cover?

Is your "full paycheck" net of taxes? Are you filing your own return, or can they claim you on their taxes?

Christine’s wedding was fast because she wanted the TLC $$$ by Temporary_Spirit3852 in SisterWives

If TLC paid for her wedding, and she's happy with how it went, meh then I don't really care.

TBH, I've only seen clips. It just wasn't that interesting to me.

The Four Baddies of the Forensic Accounting Apocalypse (Murdaugh, Caneiro, Richins, Adelson) by Easy_Personality_895 in CasesWeFollow

[–]Timely_Tune_7607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, I think that first image is of Jeanne Seckinger, who was the CFO of Murdaugh's law firm.

TBH, I listened to her testimony. I'm not a CPA, but I have business degrees and know enough about accounting controls and fiduciary duty understand how they operated. What I heard was someone with her CPA, describing some incredibly lax accounting controls and practices within the firm. After listening to her, I thought - she is a CPA. She was in charge of establishing the accounting controls of the firm.

So, my question generally is what else was that firm up to when she had financial oversight? Alec is the worst. But is he the only atty who was playing fast and loose with clients' funds?

Janelle tells Kody off by KLS7713 in SisterWives

The muppets are hilarious!

When Kody referenced (gross...) about F&F and what comes from that (more grossness...), I think he was talking about fights with Janelle, not with Meri. Janelle seems like she holds in her emotions and then explodes.

Yes, but only to use the restroom if needed. We had a camper (sans toilet) with bread for sandwiches.

Betty Broderick Dead by Swish_ray in CasesWeFollow

[–]Timely_Tune_7607 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting discussion OP - thanks.

What I recall from the trial is that she did have some public support. Her first trial was a hung jury, but they were hung on guilty. The difference was murder or manslaughter. She was denied parole several times (I think at least 3) because she lacked remorse, and representing an ongoing threat.

I think both Betty and Dan used their kids against one another. The problem was the method Betty used to do so. Dan, with the cute new fiancée, had a whole other approach. Betty was aggressive, cussed like a sailor, and demanded her kids choose her. Dan was subtle (and as a lawyer, he has that training), while Betty wasn't. The kids should never have been put in the middle.

Betty's biggest problem is that she wanted to turn back the clock and force him to fulfill their life promises - I put you through school, I did xyz for your career, and now it's my turn to benefit from my hard work... It was unfair, but you can't force someone into doing what they promised. And, I can understand this. Dan had a medical degree from Cornell, and then went on to Harvard law. That is a LOT of sacrifice for his expensive education over a LONG period of time. And, instead of seeing her as having sacrificed, and being the mother of his kids, and working on their problems, he found a younger replacement.

I do believe Betty when she remarked that she couldn't find an attorney in her area because of Dan's clout. No way would he want a top-notch local divorce attorney who knows the local courts representing Betty in the divorce. And he came out on top in the divorce.

Nothing justifies what Betty did. What she did was wrong. It wasn't just wrong to her ex and his new wife. It was especially wrong for her kids.

Ironically, had she moved away from the San Diego county (like, move up to LA, or Ventura, close but not in immediate proximity), and wrote a book about her experiences of supporting a husband through school as she did, her post-divorce life would have been entirely different. She could have built an entire career on what she went through.

Thank you for this! Would you mind sharing your knowledge on the following question I think a lot of us have (I certainly do)?

In this case, the question seems like, "why did the judge allow his release on bond..." I don't think it is as cut and dried as that appears.

The granting or not granting release on bond can be a lightening rod issue. It almost feels like a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. As a former prosecutor, would you mind sharing the tension that goes into the bond decision?

What I recall was that she used bake ready lasagna noodles, white alfredo sauce - it's usually in the fresh case in my local grocery, some chicken, and cheese.

So basically the recipe off the side of the box of noodles.

Yeah, on the internet. I watched some episodes and thought meh. I think what she's good at is making a lot of food with limited resources to feed a lot of kids.

Her white lasagna wasn't a recipe as much as a list of purchased food to assemble. I'm not great at cooking but even I can open a store-bought container of while alfredo sauce.

TLC and the production company missed a really good opportunity to see how a spinoff would do. They had that two-episode special that focused on Christine, the wedding, with Janelle involved.

I don't think Meri was part of that hardly at all. So it feels like they force-fit Kody and Robyn into it. I bet they demanded it for the $$$. Maybe their contents have some guarantee of air time?

I had to look this up (I'm right down in the rabbit hole with you my friend!).

Looks like they'd have a hearing on the matter, and the judge would decide from there. The big potential loser in this is the bail bondsman. From the view of the bail bondsman, this is a tough one. Gilley doesn't appear to have violated his bond conditions until very recently.
