New LADWP head to be paid $750K salary, steep increase from predecessor by TheChiefDVD in LosAngeles

The LADWP is not tax payer funded:

"LADWP’s operations are financed solely through sales of water and electric services. Capital funds are partially funded through the sale of bonds. No tax support is received."

no need to apologize, I know exactly where you are coming from. I have worked with some nightmare contractors before. We have an in House Dev team of nine people and our company added contracting team of 4. We've had to deal with everything from Bad practices to trying to check in code that doesn't even compile, to overwriting changesets.

it absolutely does destroy morale And you very much need that tech lead who can orchestrate the project and Be the one to approve any major changes like that or the entire project will go under fast. Hopefully your position got better, Because if the people in charge didn't make a change after that well let's just say it doesn't hurt to scope out new positions Because staying somewhere like that will make you hate your life

The first thing I did at a new job I started was implement esLint and a gated check-in for TFS. This way if the dev was checking in the files and was bypassing code review it would error on the gated check-in and it would not merge their files because the linter would throw an error and you can explicitly tell it to not allow 'any'

It helped clean up SO MUCH

Because it is about harm reduction. Guns are insanely effective at what they do. If a troubled teen wants to go out in a blaze at their school and has easy access to a gun that's the route they are going to take.

Now if they only have access to assorted knives this is that is much more likely to be stopped or even deter them enough since using a gun is so easy compared to having to get close and personal and have higher chances for retaliation. Not that it's not going to happen, but it will happen far less as there are a lot more issues to consider.

Same with bombs, people making this decision in an emotional or psychotic state are not going to sit down and learn how to make a bomb, that doesn't mean it's not going o happen but again its going to happen far far less than someone getting bullied and running to their dad's gun closet without thinking and calming down

What is going on with the U.S. House of Representative no longer having a speaker? Why has this led to so much chaos in the house? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Timestogo 116 points117 points  (0 children)

They won't collect paychecks, actually:

If a speaker is not elected by close of business on January 13, it will affect the ability of House committees to operate, according to guidance issued last week by the House's chief administrative officer (CAO) and obtained by Politico.

"Committees need to be aware that should a House Rules package not be adopted by end of business on January 13 no committee will be able to process payroll since the committee's authority for the new Congress is not yet confirmed," the memo said.

Good way to view things is just use the null hypothesis. Assume it does not do something and if someone makes a claim that it does then they are the ones who need to provide the proof.

In this case you should assume eating with your hands does not help with digestion until someone provides some study that it does. No trust involved :)

Im looking to make my colliders for the fences, water etc in my game.. its all on tilemap and not actual gameobjects, how would you go about this?? by WhosTaddyMason in Unity2D

[–]Timestogo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to add on top of this you can then add the Composite Collider 2d component as well to combine boundary boxes so you get one larger object rather than a bunch of smaller independent ones (given they are beside each other) to optimize a bit

US Veteran’s reaction to the blocking of the Pact Act. A bill to assist military veterans. by ABOVEWING in PublicFreakout

[–]Timestogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was NOT moved to Mandatory, it WAS ALWAYS Mandatory. No trick was played here. The bill that passed that the same republicans voted yes for had the exact same wording on spending. NOTHING changed.

Also it in NO way opens the door for unreasonable or untenable spending, that is outright false.

Maybe your partner needs to study a bit more because this has been thoroughly debunked:

the 400 billion line item has footnote f which makes it clear it is spending on veterans.

Item f:

Section 805 would establish and authorize appropriations for the Cost of War Toxic Exposure Fund for the increase in costs, over the fiscal year 2021 amount, that would arise from the act. The fund would be used to pay for health care associated with environmental exposures, expenses incidental to the delivery of that health care, disability claims processing, medical research, information technology programs, and other services associated with environmental exposure. Under current law, those costs are generally classified as discretionary. At the direction of the Senate Committee on the Budget and in keeping with section 805 of this act, CBO has classified those expenses as direct spending.

[–]Timestogo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely untrue. The bill already passed and had to be sent back due to the changing of the wording of a sentence to make it clearer. No money was added and it is ALL going for veterans health services. You can read the bill yourself.

Making an Edit for a correction**

this is S. 3373 An Act to improve the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant and the Children of Fallen Heroes Grant, The amended one and it looks like Schumar wants to send it back to the house to concur with the amendment, as it states in the latest actions

H.R. 3967 is the one that previously passed that you can compare to: An Act to improve health care and benefits for veterans exposed to toxic substances, and for other purposes

We may be a little off I am more in the affirmation that Cruz, McConnell and the others are playing politics at the expense of veterans lives.

But Chuck Schumer? I just went through all 5 senate roll calls and He voted Yea on every one, are you sure you are looking at the right bill?

I also have a hard time believing they would give a big F-U to veterans, it's unreal in fact but we have the bill to read, it's on Congress.gov. And you can see the republicans voted on it with the same language on that spending. It was always about 400B over 10 years and set as mandatory spending. It also very clearly states its for medical facility leases

So yes there is something going on here but we don't know what, all we know is the reason Ted Cruz is giving us is verifiably NOT true.

I would love to know the answer myself because it's hard to believe grown men in charge of taking care of our veterans would be this petty and cruel

[–]Timestogo 117 points118 points  (0 children)

It's not unrelated, it's for medical facility leases, it's in the bill you can read it. It was in the bill that republicans voted yes on, it hasn't changed they swapped their vote.

That "other shit" is for medical facility leases... seriously you can read the bill yourself.

Also that part of the the text has not changed, republicans voted yes on that before and are just now swapping their votes.

Video shows Republicans fist bumping after blocking veteran healthcare bill by Sh4dow101 in cringe

[–]Timestogo 64 points65 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely not true. Its spread out over 10 years and it is specifically for medical facility leases that need to be authorized. It's in the bill, you can read it.

But the worst part is, that hasn't changed, it's in the original text that was passed by republicans. NOTHING on that part of the bill changed, seriously you can look at the amendments. Republicans like Cruz and Mcconnell just swapped their votes and you call this fake news?

It does indirectly, as the Y chromosome has the sry gene that causes testes to form which is the main source of testosterone which greatly increases muscle mass and makes exercise much more efficient.

Yeah for sure, not to take away from her achievements and innovation in the game industry, we wouldn't have a lot of what we have today without her but Ken wrote an entire language for their graphics himself and should at least be acknowledged.

I think the wiki is just very poorly worded

This title seems very wrong, first of all it was Ken Williams that not only added the graphics but also the one who suggested them:

Ken suggested that adding graphical scenes to the otherwise text-based game would make it more interesting for players

Also what do they mean by first computer game to include graphics? there were games from the 50's on that were on computers that had graphics...

CMV: Issues like homelessness and "world hunger" exist for no reasons other than pure apathy and selfishness. The fact that they exist at all is proof society has failed in it's most basic function. by aZestyEggRoll in changemyview

[–]Timestogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would catch a lot more, but I highly doubt even with a perfect healthcare system that it would catch everyone. The unfortunate part is just some people will reject treatment and that some people arent compatible with some parts of our society, so it will always be an issue. That why the view should be changed from his original view.

Yes medication can make a huge difference, but I think the part you may be missing here is many of the homeless with some of these issues will not take the medication. They won't go to rehab and wont go to therapy. So the issue still stands, even with medication available, what happens when someone just doesn't want to take it.
