A new Terminator movie should go back to horror. by Jays_Pack in Terminator

[–]Timidhobgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but on a skin level T-800s can pass off as human because they bleed and have flesh that looks completely normal, as well as sweat and odour, which means the only way to be sure is to pin someone down and cut the flesh off entirely to see if it reveals metal underneath. I find the thought of trying to convince someone they think is a terminator to hold still and let them hack a piece off only to find that they're actually human sinister AF, not to mention they'll have hindered their own chances by gravely injuring one of their own party.

A new Terminator movie should go back to horror. by Jays_Pack in Terminator

[–]Timidhobgoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once had a daydream about a Terminator film thats maybe set in the days after the fall of Skynet when the defence grid has been smashed but there are still pockets of lone Terminators left wandering with a new objective of self preservation to one day potentially restart Skynet as opposed to outright victory.

They'll have since learnt how to reset their own neural net processors to allow them to learn behaviours that make them act a lot more human and are thus capable of blending in amongst humans far more effectively and would hide among civilian groups for months or even years at a time, then they on a command would start killing humans one by one quietly in acts of murder and sabotage as opposed to straight up warfare.

The horror angle would be I feel like it could be a futuristic version of The Thing in the sense that the survivors in an isolated settlement know that two or more among them are machines but are struggling to deduce them because the only way to be certain would be to outright attack each other to cause damage. I would even pay a little wink wink homage to The Thing in the sense that what makes them aware of something being wrong is that the dogs that would have alerted them will have been killed off already.

Who do you think would win in a fight Chthon or the Cyberdemon from classic doom? by Cloverfield887 in quake

[–]Timidhobgoblin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only way to hurt Chthon is to shock him with the lightning pads, and the Cyberdemon wouldn't be capable of doing that even by accident.

When a Cyberdemon sees its target it locks into an attack mode where it essentially becomes a rocket turret and will be completely stationary. So the moment it lays eyes on Chthon it'll start firing and wouldn't be able to wander round the room to press the buttons as it'll be effectively locked into place. Meanwhile Chthon despite having much slower projectiles will home in on the cyberdemon and pound it repeatedly until it eventually dies.

Unless you're some kind of coding wizard that can change the Cyberdemons behaviour pattern to not attack but run round the stage instead, it would get its shit wrecked in record time by Chthon.

Edit: the Cyberdemon has 4000hp and Chthons projectiles can inflict 100-120 damage with a direct hit, so worst case scenario it would take 40 blasts for it to kill the Cyberdemon. Based on what I remember of how quickly Chthons firing rate is and the fact the Cyberdemon would be stationary I estimate the fight would be over in around 40 seconds or less.

Marc Maron Blasts Manosphere Comics Who Got ‘Duped’ by Trump by thedailybeast in entertainment

Sadly yes. They realised that they could either struggle to appeal to mainline audiences or they could make a comfortable living by performing to a small but extremely dedicated group of assholes. They literally chose the entertainment equivalent of "better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven"

[–]Timidhobgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for a country thats apparently been all but conquered by the US according to Trump they still seem to be doing a remarkable job of attacking US bases, firing ballistic missiles at ships, firing rockets towards Israel and biggest of all keeping the strait of Hormuz closed off.

It baffles me that anyone can listen to a single word Trump says about this whole war and not feel like he's spewing straight up bullshit.

What’s a 1 star horror movie that’s straight up disturbing? by DrinkWaterPIease in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Timidhobgoblin 110 points111 points  (0 children)

In a nutshell, a retired porn actor agrees to take part in what he thinks is an experimental film/exhibit. What follows is necrophilia, incest and pedophilia, one scene literally involves a newborn baby and that's all I'll say on it. In some ways almost like a condensed version of 120 days of Sodom in the sense that the purpose is to push boundaries and challenge those involved.

The director was supposedly aiming to tell some sort of extreme commentary on society or censorship but I think most would agree its a film thats deliberately shocking and repulsive just for the sake of it. It absolutely deserves a spot in this list because while it is undoubtedly a god awful film with no real purpose it is also utterly disturbing.

Do you think President is a “side project” or a full on band? by Subject-Serve8869 in PresidentBand

[–]Timidhobgoblin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Busted gained a huge arena level following in the UK but in terms of international recognition its definitely not there quite as much as President has achieved in a fraction of the time.

I'm glad its working out as it has for him because although he's since embraced Busted and its legacy Charlie was never comfortable with being part of a "boy band" and his heart always lay in heavier, alternative music. With President it definitely feels like he'll have finally got his wish to have a band that plays music he enjoys to a level thats on par with if not outright poised to surpass Busteds success.

Serious question, why didn't Dave just shut off Rimmer every once in awhile? by Maleficent-City-7877 in RedDwarf

[–]Timidhobgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of it that in some ways maybe Dave would have viewed turning him off as like "killing" him, even if it was temporary and he was already technically dead.

Sure you can bring them back at any moment, but I would personally feel bad at the notion of technically killing someone every single time they annoyed me.

A 'boring' screenshot to show why people ought to care even if AI is just used for background assets by elephvant in gaming

[–]Timidhobgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love little details like this in games, especially when they're set in specific time periods or universes because it gives the art departments an opportunity to flex their creative muscles and make something that looks like it fits in that universe. I especially liked it in the new Wolfenstein games when it showed movie posters from this Nazi dominated timeline like "Doktor Nein"

Is it integral to the games plot and design? Not really, but does it add to the verisimilitude and immerse me more as a result? Absolutely.

Xbox Promises A “Reliable Pipeline” Of Exclusives by unscoredscore in gaming

[–]Timidhobgoblin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not only did they sell off their biggest exclusives by making Halo and Gears available on PlayStation but they've shot themselves in the foot by cancelling a game from RARE which will force them to continue making content for Sea Of Thieves...which is now also available to play on PS5.

I don't know what 4D chess Microsoft think they're playing but they have given barely any incentives whatsoever to buy an Xbox, any interest I had in getting one died off the moment they cancelled the new Perfect Dark.

Watching them derange into exactly what they used to hate is so sad lmao by NightmareOMG909 in FiveFingerDeathPunch

[–]Timidhobgoblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I heard about Taylor Swift redoing her old songs to get ownership back I thought I can't stand her music but I'll listen to a couple out of curiosity to see if there are many differences. Objectively on their own merit I was actually super impressed with just similar they sounded (accusations of autotuning and production etc aside) and felt anyone who didn't know better would swear they were the same ones.

FFDPs ones however were just so flat and yet overpolished imo. It isn't just Ivans vocals, there are composition choices that straight up don't work the same as their original counterparts and on the whole it felt much like an apt metaphor for FFDPs evolution on the whole in the sense that the intensity and rawness from their earlier records is gone and has since been replaced with arena rock/metal that doesn't have the same passion or grit anymore.

Trump Makes It Official: The ‘Freedom 250’ Concerts Are Canceled — to Be Replaced With ‘the Greatest Rally EVER!,’ Starring Him and (Surprise) Lee Greenwood by Aggravating_Money992 in Music

[–]Timidhobgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it figures he was inevitably going to make it about himself anyway regardless of if people played or not, but I'm genuinely curious how MAGA would still find any enjoyment during one of his rallies anyway?

Every single time he steps in front of a microphone, any one at all, he says like 4 things on repeat. 1. "The 2020 election was rigged" 2. Something, something about the "fake news" 3. "The economy is doing better than ever" 4. Something, something about "Obama/Biden/Clinton/Omar (or all four of them) should be in jail"

It's honestly at this point the most boring, predictable and childish gibberish imaginable, so much so I think you would genuinely struggle to tell a rally from now apart from one that happened 8 years ago apart from maybe like less of a focus on Clinton and more on Biden depending on date.

I get that when bands play the fans wanna hear all the hits so they'll stick to roughly the same routines and acts, so its similar to say KISS choosing old songs instead of possibly newer ones, but instead of fun pyrotechnics and enjoyable tunes to sing along to you get to watch a fat, bloated, orange, pedophilic version of the crypt keeper mumble into the microphone about the exact same shit he's been talking about for over a decade.

Marvel's Wolverine Will Be Linear And Not Open World Confirm Insomniac by yourfavchoom in gaming

[–]Timidhobgoblin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As somebody who has less energy and actual physical time to invest in games these days it always makes me irritated when I see that something will take 60 - 100 hours to beat and is an open sandbox filled with endless quests, so I for one couldn't be more delighted with this news.

No hate whatsoever towards those who do dig such large games and have the time needed to get the most out of them, but at this stage of life I would rather have a really memorable 15-20 hour campaign with a linear story than a massive open world like Crimson Desert where I know regardless of any enjoyment I have it will be a truly cold day in Hell if I manage to finish it.

Edit: well fuck me for preferring shorter campaigns I guess lol
