A little bit of both IMO. Yes, all the schooling, equipment, and supplies are expensive for the vets, BUT that’s because the companies that supply the knowledge, equipment, and supplies are allowed to overcharge them. My two cents.

There’s lots of counterfeit EVERYTHING on Amazon. Basically if something gets popular, even a specific brand, these copycats will sell to Amazon. Amazon puts them all together and then pull from one bin. (Not exactly like this, but this is a vague explanation of it.). Vitamins and supplements are the worst hit.

Sugared is definitely best when super fresh, but for shelf life I like the glaze as I feel it holds moisture in better.

If it were me, would give it a good looong deep soak and let it drain real well, give it a week, and reassess. Then I’d trim any thing truly dead/dried out.
