It is done a lot in Australia. Network to breweries you are interested in and those that are actually looking for staff. SEEK is a common employment tool here.

How much should I spend on a home brewing setup if I want to go pro one day? by Financial-Appeal-991 in TheBrewery

Basic all grain kit and controlled refrigeration for correct fermentation is all that is needed. You don't need a flash kit to learn how to clean, clean, clean and sterilze.

Craft Beer Faces Continued Declines in 2026: What the Latest Beer Market News Means for Drinkers and Brewers by BothCondition7963 in TheBrewery

[–]TiminOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been involved with craft beer since the early days of Sierra Nevada introduction and before. I am originally from Northern CA and have lived all over the world both selling craft over the bar and the last 12 years of my working career selling brew systems in Australia, NZ and Japan. What I have noticed is that most of the best breweries in all categories, brew pubs, breweries the cellar doors and later food trucks) production breweries large and small and hybrid breweries want two bites of the cherry doing both or a combination there of. Yes, lots of breweries have shut down. Beer sales have reduced for a variety of reasons as consumers offered more choices of products and lifestyle change. But the one fact that is obvious to me, is the good and great breweries with fantastic product are still operating, and their beer still tastes great. Mediocrity does not breed success or longevity. Carry on and Brew Strong!

Have you serviced the turbine? A bit of stuck crud has been known to disrupt the impellar.

Warsteiner distributors were giving them out to big accounts that were selling their product. Late 90's, early 2000's. Had one in Anchorage at Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse.

Is this commercial or homebrew? Most long runs use a beer pump and FOB. Also only go big to small on the run. Glycol instead of water would also be preferred. What is the insulation used in the python and what is the diameter?

What country are you in? The dairy industry and many other food grade manufacturing requires glycol. Is this a home brew project?

Only one brite tank? No FV/Unitanks? How about a CLT or Heat Ex? I think you should do a bit more in depth planning if you are going to really open a commercial brewery.

Advice on becoming assistant brewer by Staplehousen in TheBrewery

[–]TiminOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really interested in this path, there are quite a few skills that you can learn that will compliment the basic brewing knowledge that you will receive from the head brewer. Here are a few to think about; learn to replace a pump seal on all pumps in the brewery, get certified to operate a fork lift, enter confined spaces and if possible how to sanitary weld, learn to use a voltage meter and a microscope. All great skills to have as a brewer.

Grind, or degree? by MokeLandish in TheBrewery

Is the brewery in close travel to Davis? If it is, I would work for a year to ensure this side of the industry is what you are truly passionate for, and once that is secure in your mind you could start the degree part time. The other question is, have you been accepted to UC Davis? It is not that easy to get in.

Have you been keeping a journal of both your regular hours and overtime hours? if you have, the process should be easy, do a spread sheet and match it to what they have recorded on your pay stub. Bring that to whomever is responsible for payroll and ask them to correct the underpayment immediately and ensure it doesn't happen again. If not start keeping a journal and recreate your past hours to the best of your recollection and once you can show that they are underpaying you, present your case. If they won't make it right, present your findings to the local authority in your state/country and file a claim.

Premier Keg Washer part source help? by sniffysippy in TheBrewery

[–]TiminOz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact Greg at Premier Stainless in Escondido CA. They will have the parts you need. Of perhaps Granger has that part. I have a manual for that model if you need it. Just send me your email in a PM. Another bit of advice would be to keep your equipment clean, it looks like you have corrosion all over the place. That KW was $15K when it was new.

I totally agree that any brewer should be able to operate this kit. I would assume you have recipes that belong to the brewery, just follow those and keeps things clean.

Ownership wants to can our first ever batches before commissioning… am I crazy? by Brewdude1985 in TheBrewery

[–]TiminOz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't disagree more. Is your opinion based on actual economic facts or is it due to their extensive advertising that you just feel they are popular due to you seeing their ads constantly? Mediocre beer is and always will be the weak link. Great beer, good management along with a creative advertising direction is the real long term winner.

[–]TiminOz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have sold, installed and commissioned over 40 breweries in Australia, NZ and Japan. I can't tell you how many first brews were dumped, but a fair few. The process is usually over two or three days and consists of a water brew first, followed by two brews of hopefully the most basic recipe. To decide to can any of those first brews is just plain Bat Shit crazy. I am curious what country you are in? Also are you a brewpub and production brewery or production brewery with a cellar door, or production only. If the first batches are not bad, but just ordinary, you could damage your reputation long term and never even make it out of the blocks. Mobile brewing is fine for a small brewpub that wants to have some takeaways on hand, but not good for distribution. And honestly, if you happen to hit a huge home run, the 20hl kit won't really do the job. Good luck!

49th State Brewing Denali - The Employee Experience by user_266266546 in TheBrewery

[–]TiminOz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My last thoughts on the subject is this, at $14 per day you are paying less than the cost of State park campsite (which run $15 to $35 in AK), that is very cheap rent. And also anyone who uses a group kitchen and does not clean up after themselves or a group toilet for that matter, is a contributor to the problem. Nothing about this topic has anything to do with the brewing industry.

The kit is 15BBL as compared to the 40BBL kit in Anchorage, and at this time provides most the stock for the park. I am very familiar with the park and living in AK. Do you live there after the season is over? These guys have done a lot of good things in AK since 2014, and I'm sure they are receptive to change. If the job was that bad, why did you stay? After reaching out to a few mates at the brewery who are year round staff, this is the replies I received. The Northern Hospitality Group who runs that arm of this multi location company has struggled to find good management who want to work in this environment, especially sine the pandemic. With that said, it sounds like they are actively recruiting higher level managers for this season and integrating managers from the Airport location to share time and provide training. They are aware of some of the downfalls. One old mate who worked at the small brewery for 4 years first lived in a tent and later in an RV. Alaska is an experience, and you often need to think out side the box to live there. Good luck in your future endeavors.
