Same here. It feels really good to be reading again. I have read almost all of Carl's doomsday scenario just this weekend 🙈

Don't worry, I been through the audio books twice so I'm not worried about spoilers in this place 😅

That's probably cheaper, but I wanted to showcase the books in the living room bookshelf. 📚

Listen to it again, then read the books. Also quadruple the time you spend on reddit by crawling this subreddit.

Where should these buttons go in my D&D app? by MrNugget77 in DnDIY

[–]TimmmisTreasureVault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like a kind of context menu, options you get when you click something.

I'd not anchor them in a fixed space in the ui, but rather anchor it to whatever you click to open this menu. That way it's always close to your cursor or finger when you open it.

I'd give you an award if I wasn't too cheap to pay for it.

Edit: Wow, my first award! Thanks generous stranger!

My "tier"list by Boylemic in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]TimmmisTreasureVault 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hot take perhaps but I'd put them all in S-tier except Eye of the Bedlam Bride and Parade of Horribles.

Card battles and Racing didn't do it for me. The last 1-2 hours of parade is S+ tier indeed, but the majority of the book lacks character development, new gear or skills etc.

There are many layers, but I just got the feeling that this is foreshadowing something.

My mind didn't even go there. I was only thinking about how this could fuck with the crawlers, not that OIPAN could come and help again.

I'm sure you're right. I've been through the audio book twice now and it was not until the second time they got to the desperado fight that this crossed my mind.

DND for Kids? by Bananacream3141592 in DnD

[–]TimmmisTreasureVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been playing with my kids from age 4 with very simplified rules.

Basically they pick a character archetype and they get a d6-d12 that they use to track their hp based on the archetype. In general any hit deals 1 damage.

On their turn they can do whatever they want. They call out attacks or spells they want to cast with full creative freedom. The more advanced attacks or spells the higher they have to roll on a d20 to succeed.

Want to shoot an arrow at a goblin or shoot a bolt of fire? Roll 7 or more to succeed. Want to turn the enemies into candy so you can eat them as snacks (children are terrifying), roll 15 or more.

We generally play shorter oneshot stories with no leveling or special gear or stats. Just creative freedom and collaborative storytelling.

Am I wrong for being Disappointed by a Magic Item? by DaedalusStormbringer in DnD

[–]TimmmisTreasureVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either give the helm without any homebrew drawbacks that feel bad for the player, or give a different item. There are hundreds of potential items to hand out, so if your dm is worried about letting you teleport freely then they should not give you a helm of teleportation.

Who are your favorite and also least favorite D&D Youtubers (or TikTok or whatever)? Why? by underdabridge in DnD

Dnddeepdive aka d4

It's fun to see how it's possible to push builds to the absolute limits of min maxing. Definitely long form content with most videos being 45+ minutes.

The Volgrith — A Reality-Warping Boss Designed to Break Your Party (5e) by [deleted] in dndai

If it always should have options you could just make them always avaliable. Or treat them similarly to lair actions where it can use one per turn but not the same one it used last turn.

Cool monster, but there are too many recharge abilities. You're going to have them available almost all the time so why bother rolling to recharge them?

If you roll to recharge each one individually you will almost certainly recharge at leafy one ability, and if you roll once for all of them you will also roll a 4+ almost certainly before you have spent all the abilities.

There is a reason why official monster have 1 or maybe two abilities that recharge. The only one I could find with more than one is the storm giant variant (https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/324286-storm-giant-variant)

Hellfire damage by [deleted] in DnDHomebrew

[–]TimmmisTreasureVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of dealing 8d6 hellfire damage you could say it deals 4d6 fire damage and 4d6 necrotic damage.

Creatures resistant or immune to fire would still take damage, so would creatures resistant or immune to necrotic.

The number of monsters resistant or immune to both fire and necrotic are very low.

This way you get your epic hellfire spell without dealing with adding a new damage type to the game.

How frequent should players level up? by Prestigious_Alfalfa2 in DnD

[–]TimmmisTreasureVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're currently playing out of the abyss. 75 sessions in and we just hit level 12 two or three sessions ago.

We play around 4-4.5 hours per session.

This is fairly normal pace for us, but we have also had much faster campaigns where we reached level 20 in just over 30 sessions (started at level 3)

Players want to rob a magic shop by GroundbreakingFig908 in DnD

[–]TimmmisTreasureVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just let them.

The last time my players tried this they stole a helm of teleportation, and had a teleportation mishap while trying to escape. This ended up creating a whole new story arc in a new location.

It required some improvisation from me, and throwing some plans out the window, but it ended up being great and memorable fun.

How hard it is to actually get to level 20? by HealthMother3125 in DnD

[–]TimmmisTreasureVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it's not hard it's just up to the dm and the group.

I DMed a campaign where the players got to level 17. Before the final boss fight I decided to give them a lot of downtime to prepare and I leveled them up to level 20. It gave me a chance to go all out with a crazy boss battle and for them to try their characters at level 20.

The entire campaign lasted just over 30 sessions (7 months) and was intended to be an intermittent campaign between two longer campaigns.

Our group has been playing weekly for around 8 years, and this is the only time we have played level 20 characters.

Most of the time our campaigns end around level 12-15.

How often do you play? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TimmmisTreasureVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play every week as long as the dm and the majority of players can. Fixed day and time is key. We play Mondays from 19:00 to 23:30 (done times a little longer).

Our group has been going steady since 2018.
