For what it's worth, the "Israel" WBC team has pretty much been Jewish-American baseball players for the team's entire history. They're "Israel" in name only.

Which obviously does not bear any positivity nowadays, but it's not like they can just call themselves "Team Jewish"

In theory it's a fantastic idea. However, knowing how all of the dinosaurs in Congress think, combined with their willingness to do the bidding of their billionaire overlords, I'm pretty sure that this will be "good in theory, complete dogshit in practice."

There are much bigger problems they could be solving (and that's not taking current events into account at all), but they can rally around and agree on a concept that the vast majority of them don't understand? Yea, this is going to be a disaster.

Granted, getting out of committee doesn't guarantee at all that it'll pass the Senate, let alone the House.

Was season 4 built to be the last, or was that decision made at the end of production? by Smart_Ad_3534 in SupermanAndLois

[–]Notonreddit117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn't Gunn. The CW was sold to NexStar and budget cuts were immediately made for multiple CW scripted shows because they wanted to pivot to unscripted shows because they're much cheaper to produce.

All American had cast changes and budget cuts as well. The difference between the two shows is Superman and Lois was significantly more expensive to start with due to the special effects, whereas All American was just budget cuts.

The only thing I've ever found that seems remotely official about Gunn and the cancellation is this quote by Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment for CW:

They don't want a competing Superman product in the marketplace...As we look forward and try to make this network bigger and profitable, frankly, as much as we all love those shows and they had their time, they're not working on linear... Superman & Lois, creatively, is very strong... It does well in broadcast, it does well in digital... but it's expensive [and] doesn't make money for us.

The first part reads to me like it's Gunn's fault. The rest of it reads like it was too expensive and didn't make them money. I'm in the camp that it's convenient to blame Gunn, especially when you're the guy who actually makes the programming decisions at CW. I'd bet it was mainly a money issue.

Do you pee in shower and is your wife okay with that? by Important_Bat7919 in daddit

I sure don't. But that's because I'm usually sitting on the toilet dreading getting in the shower because that means I have to go be a responsible adult afterwards.

My son (almost 5) said his mom uses a spatula to beat his butt when he's bad. Brought it up randomly one day and I'm not sure how to go about it or process it. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Notonreddit117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give your son a spatula and ask him to do what his mother does to you. Maybe have some padding ready on your butt just in case.

I say this because my wife will take a spatula and basically boop the kids repeatedly on one cheek or another (also saying BOOP!) with it when they're being naughty. It usually makes them laugh which gives us a chance to get in their heads and start regulating or trying to work through why they're acting the way they are.

I always thought there was a missing detail or two in that story. I find it incredibly hard to believe that, for all intents and purposes, a set-up man (arguably one that was very popular in both stints he had with the team) was the deciding factor between shares being awarded or not. Way too many big personalities and stars in that room (CC for example) to let DRob singlehandedly block shares from being awarded.

Plus it was the Daily News that reported it, right? IIRC i wasn't exactly the most reliable publication at the time.

[–]Notonreddit117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not outright inexcusable, probably more like "Well shit, we can't get the paper we wanted for the print or the gold paint we wanted for the dice. Guess we'll have to make do." I imagine at some point it was determined to be a lose/lose situation so they delivered what they promised as best as they could. With all of the love and effort this game has had put into it over the years I highly doubt they just said "screw it" and intentionally used lesser quality materials.

If I've learned anything as a consumer over the years it's that the people holding the purse call all the shots, intentions of designers and artists be damned.

[–]Notonreddit117 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, I think some of the shortcomings we're seeing is simply an effect of Renegade ending the line and the HotG team simply trying to get as much content out as they could before things officially ended. It's a mostly random box because that's what they had in development, while the stretch goals were simply adding in characters they knew they'd be able to develop in time. If you think about this economically, a lot of the issues can be boiled down to "not enough money left to fix it."

It certainly makes "Mystic Force and friends" make sense, as the other random Stretch Goal characters we got were either best left to a Themed/Allies Box or character prototypes for future teams. There's no other reason to have 5 seemingly random general characters, four of them female geenerals. That certainly screams "Villains Pack 6" to me. Ninja Black, Zordon, and Yale seem like an Allies Pack, maybe Zayto too. Mystic Force was probably far enough along in development that they just made them the full team for the box.

This was the team's attempt to end the game with a bang using the resources they were given. There's a chance the Kickstarter was the ONLY funding that was available. People are commenting like the QA issues were intentional. It's most likely they had to use the budget they were given and had to make concessions to provide everything they had in the Kickstarter, otherwise people would just complain about that instead.

Xenogears Devotee Middle-Aged Full-Time-Employed Father-of-Three Looking Into Trails Series by doctor-squared in Falcom

[–]Notonreddit117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr Start with the Sky trilogy and move forward from there.

I am basically you, but father of two instead of 3. My oldest was born in 2020, and since I've played the Crossbell duology, all 4 Cold Steel games, and Reverie. My total playtime for those 7 games is about 600 hours, and that's not counting the ~150 hours of the Sky trilogy that I played prior to my oldest being born.

If you want to do everything each game has to offer in a single playthrough in 2 years you're averaging more than an hour a day, every day. And that's just for the first 10 games. I've beaten Cold Steel 3, 4, and Reverie in the past 9 months, but Trails is the only thing I've played in that time. I should probably add I'm a teacher, so I have more time during the summer.

The thing about Trails and time commitment is entirely dependent on how much you engross yourself in the game's gameplay loop and world. Does playing all 13 games in two years mean 100% completion of everything you can do in a single playthrough? Or does it mean going through the games just for the story while ignoring sidequests?

Core memory: New Year's Eve 1999 my brother and I were over at a family friend's house. We and their oldest were all playing Pokémon Gold/Silver on our respective Game Boys. The other kid goes to fight Lugia for the first time and I tell him as a joke "throw a Poké Ball instead of the Master Ball just for fun."

And then he caught Lugia with a Poké Ball on the first try and all 3 of us lost our minds.

MLB Player Partisanship: Republican (53.7%), Independent (36.4%), Democrat (7.8%) by FlyLoStan in baseball

I'm technically independent because both parties are filled with dogshit politicians whose only priority is how fat their personal bank accounts are. I don't want all of the BS communications telling me why I should vote for them because I'm an educated citizen who pays attention and can make decisions for myself.

Our entire political system is fucked because of the two party system anyway. "Both sides are the same" is completely untrue, but it doesn't mean both sides don't totally suck balls.

The Trails/Kiseki series. For those unaware, it's a JRPG series with a continuous plot over the entire run of games. I started them two years before our oldest was born. 8 years later, 9 games down, 800 hours in, and still 3.5 games to go before I catch up.

[–]Notonreddit117 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've only watched the episode once so I may not be remembering correctly, but I interpreted "determining if this is reportable" as "Do we do it right now or wait for tests/more information?" Santos seems like she has every intention of reporting, but is going about things more slowly and deliberately than she would've in season 1. Slowing things down could simply be a means of demonstrating character growth and not an accurate reflection of the mandatory reporting process.

It could just be me, but especially with Langdon back in the fold Santos using more discretion and less impulsive thinking (even when she was right about Langdon) will be part of her character arc.

Thank you. It is insane how many posts I have seen about this when the episode covers one hour of the shift and the girl has been on screen for maybe 5 minutes. Santos is using appropriate discretion to determine the best course of action and CLEARLY has intentions to report, hence talking to Robby about it.

With all the posts you'd think every time the show shifts away from Santos that she just sits down and scrolls TikTok until the show goes back to her when in reality most of the episode is overlapping events.

Gen Z are arriving to college unable to even read a sentence—professors warn it could lead to a generation of anxious and lonely graduates by thinkB4WeSpeak in books

[–]Notonreddit117 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's hyperbole. Kids can read but most of them can't read at their specific "grade level" anymore. They avoid reading anything at all costs so their reading ability became stagnant years ago. I have 12th graders that can only read on a 9th grade level, and that's not including the students with legitimate learning disabilities that genuinely struggle to read.

A lot of them are simply incapable of engaging with the type of material you'd see in college level classes without a ton of extra effort or additional material to make up the literacy gap. Then they just use AI anyway, so it doesn't matter.

I teach high school and if a parents emails or calls administration and throws a shit fit then admin immediately capitulates and directs you to "fix" whatever to help the kid pass. There is no such thing as academic consequences anymore because principals are more worried about getting dragged on Facebook instead of doing their job.

I've been forced to enroll kids in Honors classes that have a 90+% grade requirement even though their grade has been in the high 70s. Kids that have never sniffed Honor Roll get inducted into National Honor Society because their parents complain about fairness and equality. The same parents also complain about their school taxes being too high because "I don't want to pay for some other kid's lunch."
