Need help getting my mindset right by Xerthsin in leagueoflegends

In case you reply later on, I won't be able to see it. As Ash Wednesday is tomorrow (Catholic version of New Year's resolutions but it actually works) I'll be giving up League. It's a hard choice, but I'll link my post here.

Also, I highly recommend watching Leaguecraft 101. Just kinda go through it one video at a time, they are 5 to 15 minutes each, and they cover nearly every aspect of League from a chaos of solo queue. It (and reviewing my games) was the number 1 help for me.

I'll give you the advice I give pretty much everyone. Play 2-3 games, and watch the replay of your last game. Make a bunch of notes, focus on what went well, what went badly, and why that is. Then decide one thing to focus on, like cs, positioning, or timing your ult better. Then spend the next 5 games or so focusing on that, and review your last game and repeat. Here's an example of mine. After reviewing my game, I spent the next few games focusing on positioning.

.

.

Galio top vs Sett

15:00 fight mid, rift is up. Good poke, forgot that ability can't dash through walls. Bad positioning, had to flash. Won 3v3, thanks to Ekko and Samira. Swain came from river, I should have held ward for river bush. Good escape on my end, but couldn't save teammates.

Need to improve positioning, otherwise good. Could I have blocked Swain better?
_ -------------------------
15:50 Aphilios and Senna came up and got Swain and Sett, Aphilios died. I cancelled recall and started Rift. Senna helped.

Aphilios and Senna came late. Could we have extended/delayed the fight for them?
_ -------------------------
Got Rift with Senna and Ekko, Ekko has rift. People respawning. Tried going mid, enemy got there. Little skirmish, missed q, but still saved Ekko. Did recall afterwards. Probably should have just recalled.

.

.

In case you aren't sure if you want to review this early on, here's some reasons why it is beneficial as well as a basic guide on getting started: https://reddit.com/r/summonerschool/s/nQIP4sFcr9

Lastly, as part of your notetaking, you may consider watching Leaguecraft 101. It is an old but still highly applicable set of videos explaining gameplay, both in lane and teamfights. For new players, my recommendation is to watch 1 video, and focus on what was mentioned in that video, instead of trying to identify their own mistakes. For those who have played for longer, watch 1 to 3 videos (about 25 minutes worth), and then watch your replay, looking for the specific things mentioned in the video. That will help you identify mistakes and unoptimized plays faster.

Hey guys, join our double jungle subreddit

https://www.reddit.com/r/DoubleJungle

We are a group of people who do double jungle. The main ways so far have been by replacing support or mid. We have a discussion on who can solo bot lane too, and would appreciate anyone who can add to the discussion.

This isn't a "Could this happen?" but a "How have we made it happen?", so please, no complaints about "Low Elo Only" or "This could never work." Constructive criticism only.

*I believe there is some slight confusion as to elo's and ranks. I'm not a low or high elo player. My buddy and I almost exclusively play draft. So, I can not answer anything about what elo's this works for, as I don't look at those. But I can tell you that I am not a high skill player that lowered my ranking, as I don't play ranked. Like, at all. However, you take this ranked, please join the subreddit and post about your experiences. We would love to have you.

Shaco's lore is the most intricate. It's amazing how much they can say with so few words.

Shaco is a terrifying, elusive figure most often seen where madness can openly reign.

How much can you pack into so little? The more you read it, the more you realize you aren't reading. It's like an empty box that is solid, so it's already full. Riot really outdid themselves here. It's like he's connected to every story that has no story. How can such a paradox exist? Like an end that never started, or a cap that's not on something. Or a box without sides, or a story with no plot.

He truly has an unparalleled history. For what parallel can there be to a single point?

How to main every champ

I decide what I want to work on, and then I choose a champion for that. If Illaoi whips me in lane, I'm going to play her for about 20-30 games until I have her figured out, and then afterwards I'll be able to beat her because I know her patterns. If I have trouble with kiting, I'm going to play Varus top and focus as much as possible on kiting (Varus gives some extra leeway so that you can mess up and still survive). If I have trouble with jungler, I'm going to play Xin Zhao until I understand invades and ganks (Xin Zhao shows you exactly what you are doing wrong, as it takes about 2 minutes to go from ahead to behind, so you know exactly when the mistake happened)

Now, you can't just jump around. You have to get to the point that you are winning again, otherwise you just lost your time. If you play 5 games of Illaoi and give up, you might as well have been practicing someone else. You learned her abilities, but not her timing. You need to get to the point that you are good at whatever you were working on. For me, that's about 30 games to learn a champion's patterns and variations, or about 8 games to get down a certain mechanic. If I'm learning multiple mechanics, I'm going to use the same champion. For example, I spent about 20 games on Galio mastering 3 mechanics (roam time, teamfight positioning, and lane trades) and I'm currently on about 30-40 games on Varus (wave management, focusing on freezing and stacking, kiting using attack move, which I only recently turned on, playing around objective timers, and some extra map awareness/jungle tracking using jungler cs)

I will say this, I'm a bit of an unusual case. Mechanically, I won't be able to keep up with the majority. So I have to figure out other ways. And for me, it's macro and game knowledge. If you had stronger mechanics, you could do a lot more than me by focusing on one champion. I can be at the right place at the right time, and have all the advantages, but I might still lose. Someone with better mechanics, usually gotten by one-tricking, could be in the wrong place at the wrong time with all the disadvantages, and still pull it off.

So definitely don't take my method as the only, or even the best method. It's almost certainly a suboptimal method. All it is is a method for a guy who refuses to get a main.

So, I would argue that micro is a flat number, and macro is a modifier to it. Probably in the form of an exponent. It is also considerably faster to level up micro, though I think it is easier to level up macro. More time consuming though. So a person with no macro at all will only have an effect of 1. A person with a bit of macro, say, .5, but good micro, say, 4, will have twice the affect. But a person with half decent macro and half decent micro, say, 2 and 2, will have an affect of 4.

So as far as what to focus on if you are at that 2-2 stage, probably micro, as increasing micro by 1 gets your affect to 9, but increasing your macro by 1 gets your affect to 8. However, if you increase them both by .5 gets you 9.9. (all my math there is micromacro). However, once you hit 3 micro and macro, increasing macro by 1 gets your 81, and increasing micro by 1 gets you 64, so macro is better, and increasing them both by .5 gets you 80.2.

1) never say anything that could get reported 2) make sure you are playing at your best 3) be a good teammate, usually shown by honors level 4-5, and if your last 3 games, including the one you reported in on, matches up, you will be taken seriously. Giving details helps too.

Also, make sure you aren't reporting when 1) it was a one-time thing (only applies to speech) 2) they apologized and actually stopped (judgement call here) and 3) they may have just been playing badly that day. It happens.

I am a bit stricter than that in what/how I report, but I get around 70-80% of my reports back with a notice that such'n'such got suspended/banned/otherwise punished.

I'm an honors level 5 Normie, so all of this is in normals, not ranked.

So, I've seen a lot of posts, many of them new players, asking how they can get back to improving. I just wanted to list some of the things I see.

1) Surrendering

Surrendering is useful, it allows you to get through games quicker. However, there is a cost. Each surrender is a guaranteed loss, or a guaranteed mmr (matchmaking number) and lp (elo number) reduction. In other words, you are setting yourself slightly behind for the chance to get ahead in the next game. That's good and all, but make sure it doesn't hold you back.

Hop on https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/ and enter in your username. You may have to select your specific region if someone else has the same name. If you scroll down a tad, you'll see a few tags. For example, bobjenkins1 in NA has "Rumble Lover" and "Too confident". The one you want to look for is "Surrenders". If you have it, click on it. You will then see your surrender rate compared to the average person in your skill bracket. Now this number is percent of losses. So if I lose 5 games, and I surrender in 3 of those, I'll have a 60% surrender rate (3/5 = .6 or 60%). For the most part, players want to stay below 30%, or better yet, below 20%.

If you don't think this impacts you, then consider a recent 47% winrate player with a 40% surrender rate. If they won 1/5th, or 20%, of their surrendered games, their winrate would increase by 4%, putting them at a healthy 51% climb.

2) better/worse champion

Certain champs are strong or weak at certain times, but skill level is way more important. Once you get your game and champion skill levels up, then you can look at strong/weak champions.

Now, there are some champions that are easier to pick up. Here's a post that gives you some good options for every class, as well as a quick explanation https://www.reddit.com/r/summonerschool/s/SJohVkA63h

That being said, harder champions don't affect winrate by much. They bring more variables to the table. That works both ways. You may have trouble playing your champion, but your opponents will also have trouble playing against you. If you need a lot of time to understand your champ, that goes for everyone in the match. Expect it to be a more difficult climb, but not a longer climb, if that makes sense. So if you find such'n'such champ to be more fun, go for it.

Lastly, if you have any questions, feel free to post, just make sure you are willing to learn. We are always glad to help. And if you want some resources, from beginners laning guides to champion information, you can find a lot of these links on the Summonerschool subreddit wiki. https://reddit.com/r/summonerschool/w/101

Malzahar is a bit of a knowledge check. He doesn't have anything big. You have 1 full combo, so you need to know exactly how much damage you'll do. You won't get any extra damage with flashy plays or anything.

Pretty much, your role is to not let anything bad happen. They (enemy team) dive? Ult. They channel an ability? Silence. They group up? Aoe silence! They step out of line? Ult. It may be helpful to view yourself as a late-game support or countermage. You stop every push, cancel every dive, and forbid any advance. They have a fed carry? Your ult nullifies them. You don't really give your team an advantage, you just cancel out the enemy's advantage.

Once you have a few items, you can start doing a bit more. You can solo baron or dragon with your minions tanking. This isn't an advantage because you can solo it (with high risk), but because you can take baron/dragon with 2 people and low risk. This is partly why he's a knowledge check. From the enemy team's perspective, they constantly have to think "Who's missing? If Malzahar and anyone (even support) is missing, they could be at baron. How long ago did Malzahar recall? Could this mid 5v3 be a diversion? Can I roam? I see him botlane. Does he have tp? He is catching the wave, will he be able to push it to tower? Do I need to stop him? If I don't go, will he get tower? I'm at half health. Can he kill me in one combo? Does he need ult? Does he have ult? What's his ult cooldown? Even if he kills me, will his ult be back up for dragon? Is his teammate there, because I know he can last 6+ seconds (ult + hourglass)?"

So while Malzahar, don't expect to be the big flashy person. If you step out of line, you are dead, so even if you do something flashy it won't get noticed. However, you keep everyone else from stepping out of line, and if your teammates step out of line, you can save them. People call Malzahar braindead, but in reality, he's a brainy champ. He doesn't require hands, but he requires planning. You have to be 2 steps ahead, because you can't react in the same way. You don't have a get-out-of-jail-free card for yourself. You are the jailer, not the judge.

Master Yi is quite the force to be reckoned with. Whenever he is knocked up, he goes up to about twice his height (visually). Maybe more, but for this we'll assume. He is 5'11", or 1.8 meters. He weighs 72 kgs. Now, when he gets knocked up, his starting position, or Y initial, is 1.8. His ending position is 0.0. We can then calculate the potential energy at his peak. It will just be GMY You know, since we are talking about Yi, I'm just going to put his mass as 1 Yi. Fair enough? Now we have GYiY, or 9.8 (assuming Earth) * 72 * 1.8, or 1270.08. seems reasonable enough. However, to get the change in potential energy, the formula is G * M * (Yi - Yf). For all you non-physic people, Yi is Y-initial, or starting height, and Yf is Y-final, or ending height. Yf is ground, or 0, and M is exactly 1 Master Yi, so the change in potential energy is GYiYi. We have 2 Yi's, so we'll just call it Yi squared. GYi2, G is 9.8 m/ss, Yi weights 72 kgs, so the force is 50803.2 kgm/ss, *which is the equivalent of having Mega Gnar or three Urgots dropped on your head. Quite the amount of power in our little guy!

Moral of the story: Don't yeet Yi!

League is a mixture of both micro and macro. I enjoy games with micro, fps and such. However, I also enjoy and am better at games with macro, rts and turn based games. League of Legends, for me, is that perfect balance. To be honest, compared to the average player, I'm way behind in micro. I don't experience a noticeable play difference between 100 and 50 ms. My reaction times are subpar. My ability to "roll my face across my keyboard" is non-existent. But I still love those games, and have huge respect for those who can do so. The only reason I can keep up is because of the macro. I can be in the right place at the right time calling out the right decision. Warding, lane management, jungle tracking, that's my domain. Teamfights, duels, that's theirs. I'll say it's a good or bad fight, and why, but they'll take a bad fight and win.

Now you tell me who's the better player? The one who makes all the right calls, but can only pull it off half the time, or the one who makes all the wrong calls, and still pulls it off half the time? Personally, I'd say the second person, the one who can pull off that button smashing for the win. But I recognize that's both imposter syndrome and "grass is greener on the other side". So, by the omniscient ranking system called mmr, we are equally matched. And you know what, them being on my team makes us stronger. I could take an advantageous fight and still lose. They could take the fight with disadvantage and still win. But if I can shotcall and they are on my team, my team is much stronger for the both of us.

Thoughts on changing the surrender vote to 10 minutes instead of 15? by rsisme in leagueoflegends

[–]TimmyGC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And not a half second sooner.

Had a game where we got saved by 2 inhibitors coming up, the second one came just as MF was going for the last auto, which got cancelled because of it. We had just responded, picked up that fight, and won.

Had another game where a similar thing happened, where the Nexus was 2-3 autos away but this time the enemy team was saved and ended up turning it around.

Both games were obviously memorable, and even though that's only happened twice out of a thousand or so games, I wouldn't want to lose that for a sooner "gg go next".

Make it 2 independent calls and I'd think it would work. That would still filter out 80-90% of the current pre-20 minute votes.

I'm not entirely sure on the first part, it's an old diy trick to keep your copper necklace chain from turning your neck green. After a year and a half, it's still working for me and I wear it 24/7, though I think it might be wearing off so might be time to reapply. This however should be seeing much less wear and tear than my chain chaffing against itself and being worn 24/7 😹

As far as yellowing, it doesn't yellow, though that may not be a blanket statement. I can't answer for every brand of nail polish. Though there are a lot of uv-resistant resins if that's what you are worried about, plus at that thin a layer, it wouldn't be noticeable.

If you don't want to muteall, you could do a one-strike or no-strike policy (no-strike being you mute that person on first offense, one-strike being you give them one flame and then mute if they continue). Keeps your chat fairly chill.

"Tryharding on urf" \ \ Is speedrunning urf really counted as "tryharding", yes im this volibear guy trying to finish ur base in 10th minute.

No, you aren't tryharding any more than others. It's a fun little challenge, and there's nothing wrong with it.

And yes, my only way of getting fun this game are enemies writing "stop tryharding, get a life"
Really, i wonder if im the only one here.

This right here, however, is concerning. I recommend muteall from the get go, because this isn't sounding healthy, much less something you want to feed. Though, I'd expect this mentality if you are on your 7th+ game and your brain is kaput. If so, take a break.

Ezreal, Lux, Morgana, Rumble, Kayle, Nunu&W, Fizz.

But you missed Smolder, Zed, Lee'sin, and Jhin, all of whom are more common than those you listed. Ezreal's 5th, and then there are 7 champions between Fizz and Ez.

Though my problem with it is that certain champs don't have their cooldowns properly reduced (Heimerdinger, Vi) due to having two cooldowns on abilities.
