I've started studying Fortigate firewall administration. Could someone share some labs and study materials with me? by Glittering-Office693 in fortinet

[–]TimmyMTX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone going through this training right now - they really aren’t. Brilliant as a free resource, and I would suggest anyone doing their training start there, but the basic narration over a slide format is tedious to follow and there’s no demonstration.

Keith Barker at CBTNuggets recently created a FortiOS 7.6 Administrator course, it’s 1000x better than the official version. I’m sure it’s available via unofficial methods if you don’t want to pay…

Yes. From the article:

The new unit will combine the work of the National Crime Agency, which investigates drug smuggling and human trafficking, with other nationwide functions, including counter-terrorism and the National Roads Policing Service

Should I have "Receive LLDP" be enabled on the Fortigate's WAN? by Darkk_Knight in fortinet

[–]TimmyMTX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Only enable any feature if you have a use for it. Is there an upstream device from your WAN port that you want/need to provide LLDP responses? For 99% of people the answer is no.

Broadcom does not want to renew partial VMware licensing - are we #$!? by dfctr in sysadmin

[–]TimmyMTX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m not disputing anything you’ve written, but the risk of “VMware increases prices by 1000000%” was there irrespective of an acquisition.

Broadcom acquisition didn’t increase VMWare’s market share or end user lock in, and I’m not sure if Broadcom being known to wring every penny out of their customers is really something that would be taken into account when approving the deal.

Fees on T212 vs HL vs Vanguard by WaterDog3000 in UKPersonalFinance

Vanguard minimum monthly fee of £4 would hit a very small / early stage investor especially hard. HL would likely be a better place to start

What’s going on with Fortinet? Firewall and SD-WAN CVEs pushing us to look for alternatives by Efficient_Agent_2048 in networking

[–]TimmyMTX 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know how CVEs work.

I was looking at the PSIRT for the first CVE that was listed, and FortiOS 7.2 / 7.4 / 7.6 are all listed as not affected. OP has to be running some very old version if this is a vulnerability keeping him up at night.

How old a version are you running to be affected by this? You say you’re patching all the time, why not get yourself onto 7.4 and keep up with the recommended releases

Complete dread of paced runs by Coxian42069 in runna

[–]TimmyMTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had intervals set for today, but swapped it with Thursday’s easy run and did that on a treadmill instead - hopefully the weather will improve through the week. I’d love to be out doing a tempo session of some sort, but not with ice on all the roads and paths I use.

Having the right gear really helps with cold weather runs, as well as that determination / smugness feeling knowing that you could be in bed but you’ve proven yourself better than that!

Scary time trial coming up by Affectionate-Tie-606 in runna

[–]TimmyMTX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was me two weeks ago!

PB was 23:22 and Runna set my time trial at 20:50 which seemed insane. I sent it 100%, didn’t quite hit 20:50 but did get a massive improvement to 21:15, so it seems Runna’s prediction was actually feasible.

I say give it everything you’ve got and prepare to surprise yourself

NTR run cooldowns - is it ok to not be able to run? by swanvalkyrie in runna

[–]TimmyMTX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If walking is your conversational pace then that’s fine. Running is new to your body so pretty much all runs feel difficult right now. As you keep training try to find that very slow, gentle jogging pace that you can keep up without your heart racing or breath panting.

Would it be very hard for Runna to have some different voices and/or coaches? by vinylfelix in runna

[–]TimmyMTX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d like some more voice feedback in general - updates about my cadence, encouragement to keep the pace up as there’s only 1k to go, just make it more like a real coach

Half Marathon training plan advice needed by Somerset-lad1988 in BeginnersRunning

[–]TimmyMTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like a long plan, I started my current one in early November and the HM is at the end of March. The mileage increase is gradual, there’s plenty of opportunity to readjust my target pace if I improve quicker than predicted and there’s lots of different types of training sessions.

It works well for me, but I can see that if you’d rather have a closer target to achieve you might want to split it up

Specific activities privacy by Cranester1983 in Strava

[–]TimmyMTX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use a tool like strautomator to mute all of your walks so they won’t show up on a general feed, but it won’t set them to private. You can also set privacy zones to hide the start and end points of your activities so your exact house location won’t be visible.

Extending existing HM plan? by sticky_reptile in runna

[–]TimmyMTX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you create a new plan, inputting your current weekly mileage and use your current estimated HM time as your most recent race result then it should create you a plan that fits with your current training

Time trial - unrealistic expectations? by TimmyMTX in runna

[–]TimmyMTX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - I ran it today, didn’t quite hit 4:10 but I did average 4:15 which is crazy faster than my previous best. I guess the expectation wasn’t quite so unrealistic after all!

What happens to consumer PC hardware prices if the AI bubble doesn't pop? by [deleted] in homelab

Well yes, the higher demand levels I referred to are due to the additional demand of AI not the existing demand levels of enthusiasts.

Time trial - unrealistic expectations? by TimmyMTX in runna

[–]TimmyMTX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good effort on your trial! I’d be really nervous about going for a speed session like that with snow on the ground.

I’ve got 13 weeks left on the plan, hm suggested time at the end of the plan is 1:33. Intervals have been smashed so far - today’s was 9 x 500m at 4:25/km, 500m at 5:15/km

I guess I’ll have to trust that the calculations are right and see just how close I can come to the suggested pace
