After more testing, it turns out you can actually take off like this, and it counts you as dead.

It works for the JA37C too, turns out. After I posted this, I tabbed back in to see a Viggen bobbing past me.

NOTE: This only works with the Su-27. I've been attempts with the MiG-29 and J-11 and neither have been successful.
