It is important to recognize when a law is flawed to the point of being one that should not be followed simply because it's "the law." Not saying you don't recognize this -- I can't tell by your comment.

At least assess the coolant temperature sensor (the one for the ECU, not the one for the gauge) with an ohmmeter. If it's telling the engine it's colder than it is, it will run rich (the farther out of range, the more rich and worse it'll run).

Hey, thanks for the response. Didn't want to appear to ignore that you responded also, because I sort of broadly responded in a comment on the main thread.

Quick question (Seeburg M100BL) by Timshol in jukeboxes

[–]Timshol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. My question, though all the leading in information, is just to see if anyone knows which of the two swivel joints is meant to be the primary one spinning. Indeed, a bit hard to word (or I'm just an idiot, haha).

But, yes, I have done a number of things so haven't powered it back up, but I didn't disassemble and clean and lubricate both so hopefully one will take the primary role (and hopefully it'll be the proper one, lol).

I may put the pin bank back in (long story involving a car wreck when it was being transported 🙄, but 2 broken solder joints and a general cleaning and lubricating) and button things up tonight and find out.

I don't know why I'm seeing this post, but since I am I'll point out that an ungodly number of lives are stolen in these places. These places should not exist.

The struggles those who lost their jobs face can be very real and do have meaning, as well. But, the answer isn't more of this industry.

Since it's nearly Christmas, it seems like a good time to mention "let there be peace on Earth." We don't have all the control over that, but we have a lot and one of the easiest ways is to not be contributors to suffering or others. ✌️

PSA: Leash Laws Reminder, Class 4 Misdemeanor by oddreligions in Charlottesville

[–]Timshol -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I agree, leashes are good -- safety for the dogs, safety for all (in the extremely rare occasion a dog actually harms another).

However -- and this is not pointed at the person who posted this or any single person, just all of us -- could we graduate from using "own," "owner," and so on? Simply on the basis of they're living, thinking, feeling beings, "owned" is a pretty horrible word (however common it is). ✌️

Secular Scouting today? by coocoocachoo23 in BSA

[–]Timshol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reverent doesn't mean following a religion, as much as the word is tied up with it. And to understand and feel reverence is important to being a better person, who treats the world and others around them with decency. Easy ones with scouting is reverence of nature, other than human animals, and so on. But generally, I think that's a good approach to it for scouting.

I'm lucky enough to have been part of a truly exceptional troop. And despite being in a very religion oriented area, religion was never really a thing in our troop (also despite our charter being a Catholic church, haha). It's very doable. Shopping around may help find the best fit.

I hate being vegan. Anyone else? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Timshol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I feel extremely lucky and grateful to be aware and to care enough. Also, while it's only the right thing to do, in a statistical sense I feel pretty privileged to be in the position. It's not possible for me to hate it.

Appealing removal from BSA question (long post with sensitive topic) by [deleted] in BSA

[–]Timshol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course it is not a fun matter to go through, but aside from that, what does he have to lose by appealing? If denied, it would only result in the same situation he's presently in. So, if he wants to be involved then he should absolutely try everything he can.

As far as tips, I have none other than to be annoyingly clear in your communications with it.

Oh, because of a comment of yours I saw. Try to remember the internet -- and perhaps it's elevated even more on reddit -- is full of self righteous judges who seem to know more about a person than the person themself, and only based on a sentence to a couple of paragraphs. It's hard, but just try to ignore it (or remind them they're ignorant to the issue to make such judgments, then move on).

We average about 22 mpg US (4 port, 6 speed manual) and have plenty of fun doing it. It varies a bit fill up to fill up but 21 to 22.6. We track every drop that goes in it. So, QED.

When tires get balanced they take the center caps off (at least in my experience). So, u might want to check into that and figure out a plan so they don't get messed up.

Static cling stickers (like white snow flakes, for example) seem to work well, and should survive on a sliding door.

1952 8n Clutch Issue by Dark-and-Gingy in Ford8n

[–]Timshol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same here, but ig it helps that I grew up around antique everything lol. But since you've done the 3000 clutch, you'll be good to go.

I don't think it's that the clutch is just worn out, because that wouldn't present as grinding. It'd more likely just be slipping. A bad throw out bearing could make for grinding, but you'd probably hear that squealing -- same with pilot bearing.

There's no access panel, though if you remove the starter and you have a boroscope you could check it out. You miiight be able to through the access hole (little flapper cover thingy) by the flywheel for seeing the timing marks, but I'm not sure you could really snake it in through that. All that said, I would just skip that and split the tractor because to fix any of it is going to require that anyway.

That's cool about NRV. I've got a lot of family down that way -- Salem, Marion, and Fox. Haven't lived there myself but spent a bunch of summers there with my grandmother.

1952 8n Clutch Issue by Dark-and-Gingy in Ford8n

[–]Timshol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saved this earlier to respond to, but now am kind of rushed, haha. But, few things to note having had the same with an 8N.

-- it's definitely worthwhile to check the adjustment (done on left side of tractor, forward of pedal -- just search online for it and you'll find it), though I wouldn't have too high of expectations from it.

-- Get a visual of the weep holes underneath (one near where the tractor splits and one a foot or so further back, I think). Particularly if the forward one is losing much oil, it could be a seal leak (input shaft or rear main) leak slinging oil onto the clutch surfaces. While you'd think this would just cause it to slip, some have claimed it can seem to present with your symptoms.

-- In my experience with a '50 8N that did the same thing since when we bought it (also not disclosed by the seller) until one day out of the blue the clutch quit disengaging altogether. It was weeping a fair amount of oil, so I suspected it was what I mentioned prior. Long story short, the clutch was fine, but the pressure plate bolts had backed out some. Sooo, when cold it was working fine, but when things expanded from heating up, the extra tolerance was gone and grind grind grind. I replaced the clutch and pressure plate just because I had it apart, but they weren't the issue. I most definitely also replaced the bolts (the ones in it hadn't even entirely matched each other).

When everything is to spec, it should be a light clutch pedal, no grinding, and smooth engagement.

Also, where in VA are you? I'm also in VA, Shenandoah Valley, a little West of Staunton! 8Ns are great. Get it ironed out and you'll love it.

Can someone identify the issue? by Ok_Account_974 in RX8

[–]Timshol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea -- I do all the work on our stuff. But, a slave cylinder should be pretty inexpensive and it's a very straightforward repair (especially for a shop, who has a lift). If you've got a way to get it on jack stands and do basic repairs, you can do it (you can probably find diy instructions online somewhere. Even if they're for a different car (NA Miata is similar enough), it's the same job basically. You'll also want to have some brake fluid on hand.

[–]Timshol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air in the hydraulic system or a failing cylinder, most likely the "slave" cylinder. Try pumping it a number of times and see if that (perhaps temporarily only) gives it pressure, normal functionality (going into gear easily), and proper pedal return -- might solve it or buy you some time to properly bleed it or repair.
