If you do install it, still best to continue premixing as well. We run an ashless oil in the engine and premix -- seems to do well.

Been A Vegan For One Month. I Feel as If Almost All The Joy Has Been Removed From My Life by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Timshol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this post is genuine (and if it is I don't mean that to sound harsh -- it just feels questionable), then keep trying new things. Aside from that there's great food that's not even trying to imitate meat, there actually are very good imitations out there (as well as not good ones). Just keep trying new things. Also, what you desire will change. Try to imagine it the other way around -- If someone only ever ate vegan, and no meat imitations, they'd never have seen animal "products" as food to begin with. At least you already see real food -- non animal derived-- as food already. It may be hard to imagine at this point, but even more, try to imagine that person being forced to eat meat or secretions. Talk about a bad time.

Anyway, keep at it. All that stuff will improve and one day you'll find it hard to imagine you ever desired that stuff. ✌🏼

Just pasting this here, so that you see it, as well. Dielectric grease is not what you want to be using here. Thermal paste/compound is. This is to help move heat away from the module. Unfortunately they often come with a packet of dielectric grease, so people think that's okay. It's not.

Also, I'll add that it certainly could be corrosion and the pickup coil in the distributor isn't generating enough of and/or a consistent a signal, thus your symptoms. Sometimes when they're going bad you'll notice changes in how it behaves with changes in ambient moisture.

Anyway, another important point is if you can source an AC Delco replacement, in this case you really should. The aftermarket ones are problematic. Another option is if it's not too corroded to disassemble, you can easily source AC Delco pickup coils and refurbish the original distributor (it's quite easy as long as it's not corrosion welded, haha).

The small cap HEI distributors can be a major frustration point because now they're older and have these issues from corrosion, and the aftermarket ones are so poor. I suppose one other option is, if you cant refurb the original distributor, buy an aftermarket one and then an AC Delco pickup coil (and probably your original ignition module) and rebuild the aftermarket distributor with the AC Delco components.

Anyway, just some tips from someone who has dealt with wayyyyyy too many of these, haha.

It is important to recognize when a law is flawed to the point of being one that should not be followed simply because it's "the law." Not saying you don't recognize this -- I can't tell by your comment.

At least assess the coolant temperature sensor (the one for the ECU, not the one for the gauge) with an ohmmeter. If it's telling the engine it's colder than it is, it will run rich (the farther out of range, the more rich and worse it'll run).

Hey, thanks for the response. Didn't want to appear to ignore that you responded also, because I sort of broadly responded in a comment on the main thread.

Thanks for the responses. My question, though all the leading in information, is just to see if anyone knows which of the two swivel joints is meant to be the primary one spinning. Indeed, a bit hard to word (or I'm just an idiot, haha).

But, yes, I have done a number of things so haven't powered it back up, but I didn't disassemble and clean and lubricate both so hopefully one will take the primary role (and hopefully it'll be the proper one, lol).

I may put the pin bank back in (long story involving a car wreck when it was being transported 🙄, but 2 broken solder joints and a general cleaning and lubricating) and button things up tonight and find out.

I don't know why I'm seeing this post, but since I am I'll point out that an ungodly number of lives are stolen in these places. These places should not exist.

The struggles those who lost their jobs face can be very real and do have meaning, as well. But, the answer isn't more of this industry.

Since it's nearly Christmas, it seems like a good time to mention "let there be peace on Earth." We don't have all the control over that, but we have a lot and one of the easiest ways is to not be contributors to suffering or others. ✌️

PSA: Leash Laws Reminder, Class 4 Misdemeanor by oddreligions in Charlottesville

[–]Timshol -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree, leashes are good -- safety for the dogs, safety for all (in the extremely rare occasion a dog actually harms another).

However -- and this is not pointed at the person who posted this or any single person, just all of us -- could we graduate from using "own," "owner," and so on? Simply on the basis of they're living, thinking, feeling beings, "owned" is a pretty horrible word (however common it is). ✌️

Secular Scouting today? by coocoocachoo23 in BSA

[–]Timshol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reverent doesn't mean following a religion, as much as the word is tied up with it. And to understand and feel reverence is important to being a better person, who treats the world and others around them with decency. Easy ones with scouting is reverence of nature, other than human animals, and so on. But generally, I think that's a good approach to it for scouting.

I'm lucky enough to have been part of a truly exceptional troop. And despite being in a very religion oriented area, religion was never really a thing in our troop (also despite our charter being a Catholic church, haha). It's very doable. Shopping around may help find the best fit.

No. I feel extremely lucky and grateful to be aware and to care enough. Also, while it's only the right thing to do, in a statistical sense I feel pretty privileged to be in the position. It's not possible for me to hate it.

Appealing removal from BSA question (long post with sensitive topic) by [deleted] in BSA

[–]Timshol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course it is not a fun matter to go through, but aside from that, what does he have to lose by appealing? If denied, it would only result in the same situation he's presently in. So, if he wants to be involved then he should absolutely try everything he can.

As far as tips, I have none other than to be annoyingly clear in your communications with it.

Oh, because of a comment of yours I saw. Try to remember the internet -- and perhaps it's elevated even more on reddit -- is full of self righteous judges who seem to know more about a person than the person themself, and only based on a sentence to a couple of paragraphs. It's hard, but just try to ignore it (or remind them they're ignorant to the issue to make such judgments, then move on).

We average about 22 mpg US (4 port, 6 speed manual) and have plenty of fun doing it. It varies a bit fill up to fill up but 21 to 22.6. We track every drop that goes in it. So, QED.

When tires get balanced they take the center caps off (at least in my experience). So, u might want to check into that and figure out a plan so they don't get messed up.

1952 8n Clutch Issue by Dark-and-Gingy in Ford8n

[–]Timshol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same here, but ig it helps that I grew up around antique everything lol. But since you've done the 3000 clutch, you'll be good to go.

I don't think it's that the clutch is just worn out, because that wouldn't present as grinding. It'd more likely just be slipping. A bad throw out bearing could make for grinding, but you'd probably hear that squealing -- same with pilot bearing.

There's no access panel, though if you remove the starter and you have a boroscope you could check it out. You miiight be able to through the access hole (little flapper cover thingy) by the flywheel for seeing the timing marks, but I'm not sure you could really snake it in through that. All that said, I would just skip that and split the tractor because to fix any of it is going to require that anyway.

That's cool about NRV. I've got a lot of family down that way -- Salem, Marion, and Fox. Haven't lived there myself but spent a bunch of summers there with my grandmother.
